New efforts!

I spent 2 hours last night on my first "keeper*" character just wandering around Paragon via Icon. It really felt good to be there again, although poor 'lil Tina was feeling a bit freaked out because no one would talk to her. (Hey, what can I say, my characters have minds of their own.) Striga, for some odd reason, is a zone I have fond memories of. I think it was when Tina went through there that I really started to feel at home on City of Heroes. I have to say, it made me a bit homesick.

On another note, I'd just like to express my very, very sincere gratitude to everyone involved in this effort; Ironwolf, the Devs, the folks NCsoft, and anyone else I've missed.

*Edit: By "keeper" I mean the first character I actually kept playing after the first few levels.

Assuming the game comes back...a chain of Up 'n' Away Burger restaurants would make a great revenue stream!  License it out! :D

I missed your reply til I tried to catch up though the new pages but thanks for the insight. ;D

I admit, when I created new toons, I tended to stay within a sort of "safe zone" for concepts. There's generally that wide area of cliches that people try to avoid but I tended to adopt a little of at least one of them for myself because it doesn't feel that way when you're performing it yourself. The negativity surrounding cliches tends to be external rather than internal and you rationalize it as "I don't care what the other person thinks, I'm having fun with it."

Towards the end, a lot of my characters shared similar or same personality traits because I liked what I made but didn't love any single one enough to stick with long enough to commit to eventually RPing with it and progressing their story. So I spread the traits to them all subtly based on what I was feeling at the time. I treat most of my favorite characters as extensions of myself and what I can relate to. The upside to that is easier personal investment, the downside is you'd rarely see more unconventional or diverse characters from me.

It was a combination of burnout too by that point... as upset as I was that the game was going to close, I was running on empty as far as it's appeal went. All my friends had left the game years prior and I just didn't have it in me to try and forge new friendships. I found myself logging in just out of habit even if I didn't really feel like playing. But absence does indeed make the heart yearn. Enough time has passed that I want this game back with a vengeance. And I do think I've changed a fair bit since it shutdown so hopefully if all goes well, I can come back reinvigorated with new ideas and a rekindled sense of adventure. :)

I was having some fun towards the end with a new staff fighting/EA stalker towards the end. I think I would have made it to 50 if I wasn't sidetracked with the shutdown. I was running 3 different corruptors trying to see which one of the 3 I liked best. I was actually liking the rather strange beam/poison corruptor.

How could I not think about Up 'n' Away Burger...  Or Major Flanders chicken...  Or El Super Mexicano for that matter...

Burnt Toast

Maybe an AR/Cold Corruptor??

my AR Corruptor is an AR/Traps Corruptor... I had that toon for about 2 years and was a lot of fun to play and very helpful on teams, TFs, and trials :)

Random reply; I am trying to work out what my main hero is gonna be. She used to be ice/ice defender, but I complained every single XP point of that, so wanna do something new. She's kinda Men in Black-y so was thinking weapons of some kind. Dual Pistols is out because it's way to.. extravagant... for her. What are people's opinions on archery, assault rifle and beam rifle?

Where is that "like" button...

Oh, and I could go for some Major Flanders

Somebody who hadn't seen it reposted "Unity" on Facebook causing me to compulsively rewatch it...

I'd just like to put in a suggestion/vote that when the game is re-introduced, Ms. Liberty be set on permanent em/holdtorch -- especially in honor of those who can no longer join us in the city...

(the fact that Ascendant is the first character in that video, really gets to me -- as if the video needed any more "punch")

After this many pages I can't remember if anyone ever brought this up, but, what about efforts to clean up the game engine should the buyers succeed? I do remember talks with the old devs about the clunky nature of the engine and Posi even making mention properly fixing inherent glitches in it would have required really taking it apart and rebuilding it so instead they would just slap more code on top of it to counteract the glitches but it would bloat the size of the engine. Or something along those lines.

Depends on what they are able to get from NCsoft. The talk right now is to open the game at I24 and then work on redoing CoH with another engine.

I'm down for that. Only thing that may be iffy (if they say i24 that's it then we will port over all of the information to the new engine) is for basers. The items they use to make walls and structures may look distorted. But, hey that's a small price to pay in order to get the game back.

Per Iron Wolf, a general intention is to rebuild a COH2 on top of a new engine (possibly just a rebuild of COH) and I think Codewalker has said that it would be just as easy or easier to upgrade the current custom engine -- presumably with a full rebuild.

But I can't think that either would be easy or quick -- I think the game has virtues that would make it worth it in the long term, but it would take a long term to pay off, I suspect.

I was working on advancing my admirals through assignments and they re-did that system as well, so I guess my lifetime subscription is wasted because I'm done there too.

It is a little light but that's fine.

Tangentially related, last night I ran my first D&D campaign that I have run in 10 years. I went back to the 1976 white box set with supplements for my rules. I started thinking about this and putting together basically when New Efforts kicked off. It's hard to understate the power that hope gave me and that's what City of Heroes means to me.

Even though not much is being said at this moment, I still check this thread regularly just because it makes my world a better place with even the hope that City of Heroes could come back.

You know I did this too relatively recently.  Hadn't done any table top gaming in years.  Its kind of fun to get back in the swing of things, although it was very obvious that all of us were rather rusty at it.

I'd go into what I was running the group through, but I know that at least one of my players posts here, so no spoilers for them :)

Reading these various posts I am completely in awe and very impressed at the time and effort put into some of your builds.  The thought of soloing against an AV, let alone a Giant Monster, puts my pucker factor scale at a solid 10.  I played just to play.  Sure, I would try out various enhancements to see how well they affected my characters' abilities but you guys had it down to a science.  BRAVO!  Hopefully, I'll get the opportunity to see you battle in person.  My goal was to get one of each archetype to 50.  I can't wait to continue my quest.

:( the only I log in for is to listen the dyson sphere's music that sounds just like the shadow shard. For me my lifetime has been paied back for a year now :). I thought the sto players were unanimous about not wanting the crafting content remade.
