So...
I've been trying to find a way to contribute to the effort for a pretty long while, now, and even sent IronWolf a PM with an offer for when the group pulls through.
But for now, I'll take it on to myself to try and calm down the facebook group I'm in.
It's the least I can do.

The Fifth Horseman

Quote from: Felderburg on July 12, 2014, 02:54:44 AMNow, if they had released a stand alone character / costume creator at some point, then there might be an issue. But that never got done, unfortunately.
There was one, a long, long time ago.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

My comment to the New Developers/Owners

Dont allow the negativity of the vocal minority quell the desire to continue to press forward..
Youve gone this far..see it through to the end.. whatever that end may be.. Hopefully success..

If "Remaking the game in UE4" is even being considered as a viable option, does this mean that it's feasible to transplant/rewrite the existing scripting engine cleanly enough to the point where you wouldn't need to remake the scripting end of existing content?

I'm well aware you can't go into too much detail, but i'm quite curious about this. I'm assuming that since you have "paragon devs" on your team, that means you do have some idea of how viable that option would be.

As far as is known from past devs' comments, the game wasn't really built with modularity or extensibility in mind. This resulted in some pretty terrible kludges that could not be untangled by anyone but the person who committed them in the first place. I'd be very, very surprised if the client was so modular as to allow an easy switch-out of the engine.

As of this morning it seems as if the message to calm things down has gotten through to some. If we can police ourselves that look good..

I tried this once before let's see if it works - now for me in my other hobby!

Actually, that would probably help rather a lot! Go to it! :p

Quote from: Felderburg on July 11, 2014, 07:26:22 PMI would be just fine with a jump in time for the story. If CoH gets stuck at I24, I would want CoH2 to be a little bit ahead, with the Battalion having come and gone, so that a new set of heroes could be the signature heroes, and there's some sort of explanation for why CoH characters aren't all in that game. Some would carry over, sure, but doing the exact same game, with the exact same stories, would be a downer for me.

I would hate this, actually.  If CoH is going to be stuck at Issue 24 forever, I'd want a CoH 2 to start with the arrival of the Coming Storm (i.e., where Issue 25 was going to start).  It's been such a big threat building in the background that to have them just go "Oh, that was all solved offscreen.  Sorry.  Maybe you'll get to play in the next big event that we spend nine years building up to" would be a major anti-climax and a major letdown.

keep the powers as they were, please

That's been one of the fun things about designing "Heroes and Villains" - creating systems that aren't a clone of CoH, but which still lets players recreate their CoH characters pretty accurately, which is one of the main goals of the project.

Fascinating.  How are you communicating with us from the distant past?  Sorcery? Time dilated wormhole?  And why would a knight from medieval times know so much about our collective gaming future?!?

I had some gaming buddies that did Amtgard. I never really had the time or resources to devote to anything this elaborate. But it looks like fun!

LoL, that's awesome....

I'm doing the same.  The group I'm in has been nothing but civil (even those who don't get the unknown with account data.. the discussions have been nothing but civil)  However, in the interest of us all.. I told them I was shutting up for now.

Tyrannical

I know it's been said quite a few times before that when/if we get the game back we'd be at I24 until the development of CoH2. But I'm hoping that there will at least be a few updates along the lines, just to keep the game going. I'm sure most of us are content with just having I24, but new players we're hoping to get on board don't have the same standards as we do.

New players will be wanting a game that regularly updates with new content, as all other MMOs do, if we don't I think we'd be falling behind and having people lose interest real quick, if we want this game to have a loyal fanbase beyond veterans, we gotta appease people who are expecting a game with longevity.

I wont lie, I like the idea of regular updates too, beats playing a shadow of the former game when we can actually give it life, and I suppose it'll be good practice for the new development team for handling CoH2 updates and so on. There was so much on the horizon I was looking forward to, and if the game is released and comes to a standstill, constantly looking to the horizon but never willing to explore it, then it's not making the most of the money paid to get the game.

If they can I think they will. I would love for them to tie up the coming storm storyline and start CoH2 clean with a direction and story bible

But then I'd like to log in and play right now and I seldom get what I want.
