Bah! When I was leveling to 50 we didn't HAVE patrol XP! We worked off our XP debt ..UPHILL ... Both Ways!

Good reference to If quake was done today :).
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

People are excited. They have no outlet except to post here and hang out with people who are also just as excited.

Your post was fine - it is just the waiting gets us all on edge. Some people deal with anxiety in different ways - they get angry, giddy, go quiet, get defensive or any gamut of human emotions. Just don't take it personal and understand this is just people being excited to get the game back.

Thanks! I was really just trying to help out and give them a recap of some of the points that you had addressed and had been discussed by people who actually have looked under the hood.

I'm hoping for the best as well. I told my Doctor today not worry about my stress level because if CoH comes back, it will seriously drop. She was not amused and proscribed exercise.

I replied: "But...Skullz! Must Go Hunt...Kill Skulls!"

She proscribed an anti-psychotic.

(Actually, I described how saving Hashaby's wife and rescuing the woman whose soul was being stolen by the Carnival of Shadow's made me feel like a hero and gave me a large measure of contement. She said "I don't play video games, just Angry Birds")

CoX was running fine for a very long time without additional revenue from microtransactions. It is my belief that the main reason that CoX implemented this system is that everyone else was doing it - not because it was required to continue developing the game. Likely the money ended up as larger profits or just narrowing the margin with competitors.

I feel it might have been linked to Paragon Studios working on other projects - that would have been extra overhead that needed to be covered by their only revenue stream - NCsoft might only have agreed to them doing other projects as long as they part-funded it from extra CoH income.

I think I'm gonna go back and rewatch all my CoH vids so I can get my head in the right space for making new vids once we get the game back. Also gonna watch all of Aralcox's vids since NOW I can do most of what he did! (And I have the high-rez versions of all his stuff, thanks Aral!) :D

Bah, I wouldn't ruin my brownies by adding marijuana to them. My brownies have already been dubbed "Speed Boost in a tray" by the players and devs who attended HeroCon 2009. :)

I actually asked Black Pebble about that not too long ago, and he admitted that it always came down to PS having a very limited budget. They could either hire me, or they could hire another programmer. Guess which they chose. And I can't say I blame them - gee, either hire someone who could code and add features or do 3d animation, or that crazy weirdo chick to make videos? Hmmmm.

Oh hey! Title! :D

(I used to joke "I'm not a real Paragon Developer, I just play one in-game." So this is way appropo.)

The amount of games I have tried since CoX closed is vast and very few engaged me for any length of time,I still pop in to Rift and The Secret World and also Lotro if I could get past the login (what's with all these crappy launchers?).
Pretty much every new mmo has the "dodge" mechanic and it's extremely annoying double tapping during combat or running round like a headless chicken avoiding red zones.
What I loved about CoX gameplay was you just stand there and slug it out or move to position a cone, etc. But it wasn't constant, you had choice eg hover to turn kb into kd,superspeed for toe bombing, invis for glowie hunting.
Basically it was the perfect game yet was under the radar for so many ppl and that was a crime in my eyes.
So many ppl banged on about WoW,Guild Wars, etc and yet CoX was head and shoulders above em all.
I just pray to god that it comes back soon and stays.....

Aside from adding more of them of course. :)

I don't think anybody has a huge issue with innovative new sets, as long as it doesn't change the general behavior of existing sets. I mean, I could even imagine a theoretical twitch dodge set with split second required timing, as long as it is separate, balanced, and thus optional to use.

Hover also increases blasters' survivability by letting us get out of melee range, and only taking ranged damage while working on the mobs. I'm tired of rooting meleers, only to have them pull a gun on me.

(I honestly worded that as "increased" at first; then realized that that should still be present tense!)

Amen to that.  I've tried NW, GW2, and Wildstar beta.  The twitchy style of combat, where you constantly have to dodge red patches seems to
be the "in thing" now.  I absolutely hate it.

COH2 needs to be COH with upgraded graphics, period.  Leave the combat system and powersets as is.

AMEN ! This is exactly how I feel as well.  Very well said :)

A couple things about a potential CoH 2:

I would be just fine with a jump in time for the story. If CoH gets stuck at I24, I would want CoH2 to be a little bit ahead, with the Battalion having come and gone, so that a new set of heroes could be the signature heroes, and there's some sort of explanation for why CoH characters aren't all in that game. Some would carry over, sure, but doing the exact same game, with the exact same stories, would be a downer for me.

As far as mechanics go... I think it's key to look at the evolution of power sets in CoH. If you look at the later power sets, they had some pretty different mechanics from the beginning of the game. Dual Pistols had ammo, Water Blast had "tidal power", Dual Blades had combos... these are innovative things that went beyond the normal feel of power sets, which was basically "a bunch of powers that do damage." Building up momentum in a Titan Weapon is completely different from hacking away at a guy with a Battle Axe. So when people are dead set against changing the gameplay style or mechanics of CoH, I have to wonder if they like sets like Dual Blades or Staff Fighting, which were so different from "standard" power sets. And even if you do like the cool new sets, saying that any change to gameplay is terrible would limit more innovative sets like them being created.

You obviously didn't invest in a long enough straw.

Personally, I think they'll have to skip ahead of the storylines planned for COX for COH2, simply because I'm willing to bet the dev notes that aren't available to help answer questions in the AMAs wouldn't be available to the new devs, either.    So personally, I'd hope to see homages set up to the old game in COH2, maybe along the lines of a Freedom Phalanx Museum, Vindicators Plaza, something along those lines.  I do hope that they find a way to include potential EATs like the Rikti EAT as well as the Peacebringers/Warshades and the SoAs.  But I think the storyline should focus after the Battalion and other assorted threats.
As for power sets...there were many things that I seem to recall the old engine just couldn't support.  The ability to grab and pound your opponent into the group, for instance.  Stretching powers.  A new engine could potentially allow for that.  Personally, I want to dive-bomb an invulnerable opponent with my super-strong scrapper/tank/brute/whatev, pound him through the pavement, and continue the fight inside the sewer line under the street.  We can keep the existing playstyles, but opening up to new things could bring Awesome we hadn't considered back in the day.

The combat system in "Heroes and Villains" is being designed to have no blocking, dodging, or charge ups - we know what's expected from us ;)

You go, girl! :D Can't wait to try it out!

I don't mind new things being added, so long as the standard stuff we have now  (and precisely how it now works) is not LOST.

I had that happen to me twice. Each the female character was asked out on a date, I replied, "Sure! Is it OK for me to bring my penis along?"

Once had someone hit on my female character as well. Turned out it was another girl. Then she asked if I were gay.  :P

Me: No, I just like looking at a ladies behind.
I am an ass, but don't we all love a good ass!

Mostly Men Online Role Playing Girls. Not really true anymore, CoH probably had the most gurl gamers of any MMO I played.

That's my stance... Additions of new power sets are great, as long as it doesn't suddenly mean "the old stuff has got to go!" Or "Elec/Elec was nice the first few years, but now that we have the staff set, we're removing the older stuff to make room for the new!"
