C?  Even better.  I learned C before C++. (And I learned Pascal before C)

I'm an old programmer. Perfect for working on an old game :D

Most C/C++ people are moving to C# these days. It's pretty much C++ with quality-of-life features stolen from Java (like automatic garbage collection, since resource leaks have always been the Achilles heel of C/C++).

Speculation on my part:

I know that in an earlier post that I said this but it may have been missed in all the pages of fun, NCSoft might want a similar deal as they had with Cryptic. That deal was 2 year of profit splitting to ensure that the skills to develop the game were passed on. NCSoft may ask for a similar deal - wanting in on the game for a time until it has proven it can stand on its own.

We really don't know at this stage what NCSoft is asking for. I do know they want their logo on it and I think the deal with Cryptic requires their logo on any future sale by NCSoft. I guess I am saying at this point we have no idea other than NCSoft wants their logo on it - what the deal conditions are.

Washington State Brownies I presume........ :P

Bah, I wouldn't ruin my brownies by adding marijuana to them. My brownies have already been dubbed "Speed Boost in a tray" by the players and devs who attended HeroCon 2009. :)

Well delivering the brownies may have issues if you are working from remote...

I'm sure there are a lot of us who will be  floating some contact there regarding employment or even volunteer work once it is actually sold and it is clear who to contact. And they will need it considering a lot of the core staff has obviously moved on and are tied to whatever new jobs they have.

Of course there are some people (like you) that it always bewildered me that they weren't hired by the old studio. :)

... Wait ... What? ... I seem to have acquired a title ... Heh. I like it.

I actually asked Black Pebble about that not too long ago, and he admitted that it always came down to PS having a very limited budget. They could either hire me, or they could hire another programmer. Guess which they chose. And I can't say I blame them - gee, either hire someone who could code and add features or do 3d animation, or that crazy weirdo chick to make videos? Hmmmm.

Oh hey! Title! :D

(I used to joke "I'm not a real Paragon Developer, I just play one in-game." So this is way appropo.)

Kudos for remembering the original, though it was recently used in a parody of a Katy Perry video, which would also be an acceptable answer.

**sigh** Brownies and DQ Blizzards are the two things I miss most about being able to have sugar foods. (Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are a close third.) Needless to say, DQ Blizzards with brownie chunks in them would be almost worth the blood sugar spike. :)

On the other hand, A&W had a Blizzard-equivalent with Sour Patch Kids in it. This seems like a violation of God's laws.

I am confident that someone somewhere has the tools and the character info.. and let me be clear.. i dont KNOW if anyone does.. I just believe that someone does..

There were two of us that made reference to it first...haha

There are alot of people out there that are fans of many different MMO's (WoW, SWTOR, GW2,Wildstar etc.).  As fans of CoH I think what we need to do is really expain to our friends the unique appraoch CoH takes towards teaming, power animations etc.  Even the questing and lore of CoH is on a different level than even some of the new MMO's just released.

For example, I have been playing Wildstar for 3 weeks and I have to say the questing stories and the lore of the game is absolute incoherent drivel.  Even when you team up with someone, most of the time the quest don't share etc.  It seems like most of these new MMO's is just a solo grindfest.

When it comes to teaming and side kicking, City of Heroes has it down the best and I have yet to see any MMO come close to this.

I honestly think a lot of current developers have the skillsets / orientation to write decent single-player games, but are forced to make MMOs by their studios who have dreams of multi-player micro-tran money. I can totally envision even the most obvious one-player proposal to a boss being met with "Interesting, but can we add multiplayer and sell hats?"

And that's why I couldn't stomach ToR for very long. :)

I think the people who are worried about what CoH2 might be have a point, and I get it.

While we the community would jump at the chance to play one of the "spiritual successors" of CoX, what we want to play even more is CoX itself.

So the REAL question is would CoH2 be a "spiritual successor" of CoX, or would it be EXACTLY the same MECHANICS, i.e., will CoH2 have a power named Fireball that was the third power in the Fire Blast set? Would it grant a +2% Dmg buff for 8.5 seconds to a blaster? Would it do 12.51 smashing damage and 43.79 Fire damage, with an 80% chance of three 9.38 damage ticks of additional fire damage? Would it have the same range, cast time, burst radius, and everything else?

In short, will CoH2 have a rewritten codebase, and much better graphics, but be MECHANICALLY identical to CoX?

If not, it won't be the game we have fallen so deeply in love with, it would be some kind of successor. And the problem with "successors" is that CoX was (IMO) so damned almost perfect mechanically, that the VAST majority of mechanical "improvements" would really harm the game.

That is what I think the people worried about CoH2 are worried about. I'm worried about it myself.

On the other hand, if we can get back CoX I24 and play that forever, than if CoH2 doesn't measure up for any of us, we can keep playing CoX. ;)

Since the closing I have tried SWTOR, Champions, DCUO and Rift none had the ease or fun of teaming CoH had.

I am hoping and praying this deal goes. Like Ironwolf I believe it will.

Many months ago, someone mentioned trying several other MMOs after CoX closed, and NONE of them was as enjoyable as going into Icon and just flying around. A scathing indictment.

Well there ya go. No reason something like this can't be added to CoH.

Love this!  One of my favorite things in EQII was to level my main character up to a 95 carpenter and decorate my houses the way I wanted.  The player's studio has some great items for sale.

That is certainly what I want out of it. To me the ideal CoH2 would have (baseline) all the same rules, playstyles, costume parts, options, locations, etc. It would be driven by a new engine and take advantage of newer world texture / particle options (so, water works more like water, marble looks more like marble, trees cast "real" shadows rather then have sculpted mystery shadow on the side of the dam, etc), but the skyline would be the same. Character meshes would be upgraded to have more slider control and better motion (and fingers maybe), but still start with and have all the current setting ranges available. Costume parts would be upgraded to have better detailing (where required) and more color channels (in general).

Basically I want a remake, not a reboot/sequel...

I've been online, gathering SG-base component information to plan out my base, should I have to rebuild. My finances will dictate that I won't be able to spare much money for the game, if any, for a long while. I might need a kindly VIP to start my SG for me (very kindly, as the SG would just be for my toons' convenience), but, if rent continues to be calculated on storage items, at least I wouldn't have to worry about losing the base.

Of course, I'll also need to roll an Illusion 'troller to get the teleport beacons again.

The thing is with the best and fastest programmers on it porting the original over would take 18-24 months. In the meantime we will have the original running - but likely with no development. After 2 years of no new releases - the population will start to drift away.

If they can fill that void with excitement for CoH2 - with the same gameplay, advanced graphics and have it more easily developed in the future....everyone wins.
