I used CIT before they even joined the Titan network! But then I left for a long ol' time, and came back. Now I edit the wiki.

I'm working on sorting the Lore AMAs so that questions are easily found and linked: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Lore_AMA/Sorted Tell me what you think!

The Unreal engine is 18 years old and seems to be worth a decent amount.

Ok let me make it clear.. its not the age of the engine.. My question is the long term feasibility of a custom made engine.. Now.. again.. I dont have any video game industry knowledge..

but it seems to me what would make the most sense is to try and get whatever you can get.. release the game again... and then move to try and either port everything to a new engine.. or create CoH2...

Thats just my mind.

I believe (speculation but based on IW's comments) that this is the intent of the group- get the game, put it in maintenance mode and work on either getting the world into a new engine or recreate it.

I know from initial conversations with the team leads NCSoft did not sunset the game well. The original source may not be available and instead it would be an image that needs to be reverse engineered partially to get it running. I personally don't know at what level the tools and documentation are at. I did hear that the tools may not be available from NCSoft - but also that this is not necessarily a bad thing.

A former dev may have a copy of the source/tools/documentation and be able to pass it to the new folks - I honestly don't know.

From what I understood at the time, most of the devs were gone the day of the announcement, and the rest were cut off from the source code before they even got into work on that fateful day.

It really was pretty shonky the way it was all done.  No respect for the devs at -all-.

Can you use that in a sentence for me? :P

Since it's Codewalker giving the cookie, does that mean it's a browser cookie? ;)

I'm so upset with myself.  A couple of months ago I deleted my CoH folder.  Thank god I saved my Mids builds :(

If you just want the game files, the Tequila or Island Rum installers will work: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,9531.0.html (Windows) or http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,9502.0.html (Mac). If you want screenshots or other unique things... bummer.

I wonder who I'd have to grovel to on the new team to get a job there. As long as they're either a) in the Seattle area, or b) willing to let me work remotely, I'd be perfectly happy to sit in a cubicle and churn out videos as the day is long. And write arcs. And spell check stuff. And edit. And make brownies.

I do have Icon so the game files aren't a concern anymore.  But I did have custom binds/costumes/etc.  Oh well.  I have no issues redoing that stuff if the it means the game is coming back! ;)  It just sucks that I waited so long and finally caved and deleted it.

A stack overflow page said  it was developed in C (an ancestor language of c++) - which might make it even harder to get developers for opposed to c++.
I guess all we can do is trust that the team acquiring it are aware of the skill requirements etc
Documentation and tools would help, but they probably wont be show stoppers, just end up adding additional costs to their maintenance.

C?  Even better.  I learned C before C++. (And I learned Pascal before C)

I'm an old programmer. Perfect for working on an old game :D

That's assuming

1. They still have the code

And

2. They will allow anyone to use it even if they do

Well delivering the brownies may have issues if you are working from remote...

I'm sure there are a lot of us who will be  floating some contact there regarding employment or even volunteer work once it is actually sold and it is clear who to contact. And they will need it considering a lot of the core staff has obviously moved on and are tied to whatever new jobs they have.

Of course there are some people (like you) that it always bewildered me that they weren't hired by the old studio. :)

... Wait ... What? ... I seem to have acquired a title ... Heh. I like it.
