That bad? I never could get it to run, no matter what voodoo I tried.

Did you try it back in the day or recently? I got 'em to run with DOSBox. I played them when they were initially released and loved the first two. I recently replayed EOB I over Christmas and if you can deal with EGA style graphics it holds up pretty well.

It was a huge disappointment after Legend of Darkmoon. First, the graphics were not as good with textures looking very chunky after Darkmoon.
They made the switch to VGA graphics but all that did was make the colors more muted and muddy.

The exact same gameplay and no story. In Darkmoon, there was at least a decent over-arcing plot and a connection with the first game. This was a real disappointment since it was set in Myth Drannor.

They were both basic dungeon crawlers but III made the mistake of being partially set outdoors. The block graphics that work find in a dungeon environment really look awful when it is supposed to be outdoors.

After EA bought Westwood, they brought all the assets in house and they didn't have the same design team and it really showed. I'm sure they did the best they could but it was pretty unfun to play.

I've tried across about 5 machines and 12+ years. It just seemed to be a singularly temperamental game. Shame because I loved 1 and 2 and played the heck out of both of them, but I guess if 3 was lousy maybe it's better I don't ever get it working :-)

I cannot  see personal info or account information being provided as part of the proposed sale - that would be a major privacy /confidentiality issue.  :-X
Seems like it's pretty common to me.   I've had my mortgage change companies twice.   They just send me a letter with the new address for me to send to money to.   Surely a mortgage is a bigger deal than game account info.

That's about the worst option possible. Sentinel exports are a "best we could do on short notice" format, and there's a lot of data that simply wasn't available clientside. Importing a Sentinel+ file will result in a character that looks like your character and has the same basic build (mostly, there's some fuzz with temp powers and inherents), but isn't quite the same.

Not to mention the possibility of shenanigans like mailing valuable items to each alt before exporting it.
Won't there be "shenanigans" with anything they do?   I would say it's a question of weighing the pros (making a lot of players happy) with the cons (making a few players grumble that a few other players found a loophole).

The pros sure seem to outweigh the cons to me.   I really have to say I don't care one bit if some other players mail items to alts.  (Wasn't that legal anyway?)

dwturducken

I think he was meaning that said mailing could "create" duplicates of stuff.
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

a mortgage has a government backed agency overseeing the process. there are strict limits to who can handle a mortgage.

I just keep thinking about how much city of heroes kept moving forward while it's competition just either kept in the 1990s(DCUO) or regressed back into the 1990s when it could have been ahead(CO).  For me, it always boils down to the fact that city of heroes had depth and supported many playstyles in teams and solo while the other two were just typical "tank, healer, damage" or had become "tank, healer, damage" over time.  Both games went back rather then forward, city of heroes kept moving forward, it was like that old fps you love that got so many modern gameplay improvements without all the bad things brought to fps's in recent years.  Only it was an mmorpg that was fun to play.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Should never stop looking over Mids, it's nice to be able to come up with new character, the concept behind the name and then be able to do the build, yea might not have the game to test the build but it's still something connected to the game which I enjoy, even have Icon now to sort out the costume, once your done you can always go back later to see if you can tweak another % out here or there...  ;)

Hoping for some news update this week... *looks at Ironwolf*  :P

I understand the hope for everything. I understand the will to come back. I understand the joy that this ray of hope brings.

However, while I understand some of you are new to the topic, those who have been following it for quite a while have learned to understand that Ironwolf is not the one who pulls the strings here.

Don't get me wrong, he has an important role in all this but in backstage, he is not the one that will deal things and will get in meetings and such (unless I'm wrong, please correct me).

We have learned to understand as well that we are excited but we are containing it now a bit more, knowing it is a long process. Even more, it is a long battle. Against who? Ourselves! We are actually our worst enemy in all this. Why? Because we lack of patience... each one of us. We all want the game here and now but it won't happen. It will be a long and even painful process sometimes. We will succeed, there is no doubt, but we need to accept the fact that it won't happen tomorrow.

I guess my point is to not be so hard... Don't be so hard with Ironwolf who probably feels some pressure from all your excitement and overjoy. While it is understandable, it can add an additional pressure.  Don't be so hard with each other. We all want CoX to come back, it is a common goal, but also, it seems that everyone has their own side goals about what they want with the come back. Some absolutely wants their characters and their stuff they used to have. Some wants better graphics. Some wants new engine. I just want to say that if we have CoX back, let's realize we will be gifted to have it back, on any form, and let's stop taking for granted our beloved home. And finally, don't be so hard with yourself. Your excitement and motivation are all great. However, you have to keep some reality with you too. It's long, it's hard, it's still gonna be long and hard, and patience is something we must all gain or else, things will turn out that you will become more upset than you should be, filled with frustration and not able to wait anymore because not only you want it so bad like all of us but you will want it way too bad, to the point it will become more a pain for yourself than anything else.

So guys, don't be so hard. Don't wait too much on the edge of your chair, thinking things will be back right away tomorrow. Ease your mind elsewhere too and don't make it an obsession. Ironwolf and friends do a great job and they will let us know if they need us. Continue to be supportive but let's not get too far ahead. Let things roll their way and just be attentive for all this. And be patient despite the excitement  ;)

It was my opinion. Take it or leave it but I felt it needed to be mentionned :)

Take care all!

Ironwolf

Thanks Ben, I really do understand how excited everyone is.

Since the first collapse of the game purchase we have - something - I am astounded honestly by how quickly everything moved. The folks making the effort have thankfully allowed me to stay in touch with what they are doing. At some point we will run into the Corporate machine and it turns slowly.

I am certain once the opening talks are made we will know a lot more about where we are and what we can do to help. There may be positions needing to be filled and work to be done. I know people speculate about the hardware but in reality hosting and hardware are fairly easy. The accounting side is where all the hard work gets done. Security and more security. I will say again - I know they have a meeting setup but I don't have a clue when and won't ask.

I don't want to add that pressure to the situation. Let me flip this around and ask you folks how would you feel if you had the first chance in over a year to bring the game back? You would feel a great deal of responsibility shifted onto you. I do know they feel this - I do know the folks working on this are just like us, players who lost their second home and want it back. I knew there would be times like this where I don't have anything to share as it is between steps.

Hang in there.

WOO HOOO!!!  Knew an Ironwolf post was coming...been keeping my hopes up and eyes out.  Thank you, Ironwolf, once again.

Each new day is one day longer that we've been away from home, but possibly one day closer to returning home.  I'm feeling really good about this...even if it doesn't go through...just the positive "dreaming" and re-connecting has been awesome.

I can't wait to, one day, fight along side each of you, protecting the citizens of Paragon City.
Waiting for the day Paragon returns.
