UPDATE

Direct quote: "we're working very hard on something to show someone. things will be quiet for a bit."

Because of this, it delays talks on the sale until this hurdle is achieved. There is news it is just that once they prove what they can do the rest should be easier.

Thank you, Ironwolf, and express our thanks to the team!

I was working on an AE arc that actually explain lag issues as well as the constant rerunning of content.  It dealt with the Ouroboros's technology being used by Fifth Column to alter the time stream in their favor.  The problem was Ourobos tech had been specifically designed to prevent such a thing from happening, and so while the major events always were playing out correctly, who was involved and how it went down was in constant flux.  This was causing undo stress on the time stream, resulting in times and places where time would freeze/skip/jump/repeat.  The arc had you travelling to key moments (places where lag was usually REALLY bad), stopping the Fifth Column, and placing stabilizers to help protect the time stream from further stress.

So now when you lag out in the middle of a hami raid, or in the ITF, or are rerunning an attempt to stop Lord Recluse from activating a power web that makes him indestructible even though another hero you own just did the same thing, just know that it's because below you, in caves, some group of heroes is trying to fight off a Fifth Column attempt to alter the battle, and it's causing a few hiccups.  :-)

Tell them thank you for me :).
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

This news really does seem to point to NCSoft's willingness to sell.

Thanks again for the update.

And thank goodness they are not just tossing it to whomever has cash.

This shows that NCsoft cares what happens to CoX and its community.

It takes a village to raise a child. And it takes a villain to explain the value of lunch money.

-Random CoHer: "Why does the sky turn green during Rikti invasions?"
-Me:"Rikti Monkey farts"
-Random CoHer: "I'm going to you for all my questions from now on!"

Not to start an arguement but this means that the Financial arm of the company is very interested in protecting its name - rightly so.

I don't disagree that this also by extension protects the gamers as well.

Agreed.

Hopefully, the new team can work this out and get things going. I am very much looking forward to seeing the outcome of all of this.

So there's finally an explanation for Azuria constantly losing all those magical artifacts.  It would be fun if an arc episode ended with Azuria telling the team members "Look what I found!" And behind her is a room crammed to the rafters with multiple copies of the items we've all recovered over and over and over again.  Now the problem is to relocate all this stuff before it reaches Magical Critical Mass.  Sounds like a job for Portal Corps!  Of course, it's a Nemesis plot.  Isn't it always?

Not everything is a Nemesis plot. :)

I also want to see what CoH2 on a new engine would look like!

While I would love to be able to play the original while I waited for that, I would definitely wait for this even if they couldn't restart I24.

If it looks anything like that Unreal Tournament 4 screenshot from earlier in this thread, it would be the most incredible looking superhero game of all time... Imagine CoH-like play (with the button/queue combat) with animations and effects in that kind of engine! It would be AMAZING!

Y'all remember the guy who came up with that CoH button overlay that made all the buttons look high quality and shiny?

Ah, the imagination is running away from me now....

All I care about is whether or not the new engine allows demorecording. I have videos to make, damn it - I HAVE PRIORITIES!

If we get City of Heroes back and if it shows on the news the CoH community will definitely be recognized!!  ;D

I wonder with the new engine, can you stack base items to make stuff like CoX base building

I'm much more concerned about how CoH2 will play rather than how it will look.  Because if it doesn't play like the old game (or better), I'd seriously prefer playing the original over something that was "New and Improved!" (i.e., dumbed down) for the sake of the casual players.

That having been said, Thank you very much for keeping us generally informed on the Team's progress in bringing my home away from home back to life!

I completely agree. A few tweaks could happen, like The Secret World's ability to constantly move during combat, which makes things much more dynamic, and I'd LOVE voice work for a CoH2, but overall, I really liked the balance of powersets, diversity, archetypes that fostered game play but were still soloable, and the queuing of powers, etc. that CoH had.

And I STILL prefer enhancements as a way to boost "gear," and the random drop over the crappy "need/greed" features I've found in every other MMO I've played.

A screenshot that looks fairly simplistic from the poly count and engine tech side, and looks good almost entirely due to detailed texture and normal map work.

Give me those textures and I'll make you a scene in the COH engine that looks almost identical.

Hope you've got plenty of video RAM.

UnReal4 has MMO support that UnReal3 did not.

With UnReal3 the MMO support had to be custom written, in UnReal4 it is part of the engine.

Oh, thank you.  So I was, in fact, misunderstanding -- I hadn't realized they'd added MMO capabilities to Unreal 4 -- that makes me much more optimistic about COT (which is good, since I've got some dollars down on it)
