Ironwolf's first post on the subject was that the code and/or character data "might not be available". While it's a subtle distinction, that phrasing doesn't necessarily mean the same thing as not having it.

Actually, you are right.  There may be other reasons it is not available.  Really, it was just one of those things that popped into my head, that I was curious about.  having worked for the same software company since 1996, I sometimes realize that not everyone in the world does things the same way.  Or is dysfunctional in the same way as the company I work for.  :)

I don't worry too much about customer or account data.  That part I KNOW we have different requirements than a game company does.  We pretty much are never allowed to delete either for our applications.  :)

I think a true gimp would leave all slots empty.

A true gimp build is a defender who has nothing but healing powers, forgot to even take fortitude, has only one attack so that "He'll never miss a heal", also has medicine too, and a bunch of extra travel powers.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Yep. You could take a brand-new level 1, just arrived in Atlas Park, through the Vanguard base to the RWZ, and get yourself instantly, royally dead. The guards at the doors of that Atlas Park entrance were, obviously, just decoration. OTOH, it WAS nice to have access to the base's crafting table.

Also before Icon was in AP, you could do a costume redesign. With some care, you could also get a jetpack from the Shadow Shard.

Yeah there are several options like Dynamic powers (2 point option that lets you shift points between other linked powers) and Variable power (the one I'm assuming you mean) where you basically spend 7 build points per 5 build points of "whatever powers I want at the moment".

No, there's an add on in one of the shape shifting type powers that lets you, for a trivial point cost, create an alternate form with the power points you have. I think it's called Metamorph or something like that.

Yup, there it is. 2E's "Metamorph" a power feat for the Morph power.

Haha. Have been going through my old photobucket account that held a lot of my CoH graphics, and I came across this screenshot!

I did love to sneak into cutscenes...

EDIT: This was LGTF - bikini babe style!

I love the low level stuff as well and seldom skip it, even by doing DFB. I usually do that once.

Harpospoke, I hope that even if no one else gets anything you get your characters back. I really do. See? That's personal.

I hope everyone get their characters back, I really do. Not personal.

You've made your position clear, multiple times. No one is singling you, or anyone else, out for special treatment, positive or negative. The group buying will make the best deal they can for them and us. I hope it includes character data. I do. But if it doesn't, it doesn't.

Based on what Iron Wolf has posted, I think it is likely that it could. If it is really a snapshot, the easiest way to get the game up and running is to put it back as close as possible as it was. But they might just restore the snapshot with no characters. It is possible they might find the data later. They might find tools later. Any of that is possible and could happen. But if it doesn't very little said here will make a difference.  Their hierarchy of what is possible for the new devs to do is based on what is available, what is affordable, what the investors want, what the sellers want and at the bottom what we want.

Not because they wish it that way, but because to get the game back, it has to be in that order.

Try as I may to word this stuff exactly - every word of vague info from NCSoft gets parsed, lol.

Not available - now - is still a problem. If they give us the disk image and we have the Devs start reverse engineering the game and we get it all going but in the meantime NCSoft gets all the character data that will take another 4 months to unwind - should they bother?

It becomes a slippery slope of trying to patch in the old stuff that wasn't there at the beginning and by this point they will have a new launcher, new servers and a bunch of characters that are created. Then what? It may be NCSoft policy not to release the game data and just to sell the image and IP. I really don't know either. In some of this I feel that the team doing the deal is in just the same amount of wait and see that we are. We have made progress not as fast as we all would like - but we are moving forward inch by inch, step by step - slowly we turn............http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yJBhzMWJCc

Wolf I have a question if the team doesn't know how to fix the image, another member of this board brought this up (sorry if I don't remember who) said they could ask the former devs to see if they could fix the missing image inlue of not have documentation.

I would say no, they shouldn't bother. Getting the game back up is more important then recovering the character data. I know many people strongly want the return of there data but if that keeps things held back so long... I can't imagine many people being happy with that as well as it being a lot of time in lost revenue.

The game is absolutely paramount.  Much earlier on in the thread I did see some folks who were iffy about playing if the data wasn't there, but I find that truly silly.  Data or not, if the game isn't around...it just doesn't matter.

Yes that is also an option. Morph/Metamorph is still available in 3E and costs 1 pt per additional form. You'd need about 3 or 4 ranks (15-20 points) of Morph (depending on your definition of "broad group of forms") and 2 points of Metamorph to permit both squid and lobster. The 17-22 points in Morph/Metamorph wouldn't be available to the build which is still a bit of a price hit which puts it on par with other approaches.

Absolutely agreed. The game is the priority. Everything else is gravy.
