Well, I don't know if you saw it, but years ago, fresh after the closure, Jack suggested NCSoft call him or maybe it was Positron - and he would see what he could do to persuade them.

It's been a long time, so the details aren't fresh for me.

But, basically Jack was willing to use whatever pull he had to get them to sell or release the IP.

Spot the hero in the mix. Dunno if this is old news or not, but I just found out about it. I have mixed feelings on it. Nice to see one of the heroes again, but not in the way I'd like :-/ Doesn't look good for the potential IP purchase as well.

This has been discussed. Frankly, I consider it an insult to the CoH fans. "We don't care enough about you to give you your game back, but we'll exploit one of its most recognizable faces in our blatant cash-grab fad chasing MOBA attempt!"

NSFW: Rick and Morty joke.
Spoiler for Hidden:

There's only one real Squanchy I recognize.  And he doesn't look like any of them.
Hey! i'm squanchin' here! Gettin' the band back together once Rick and Birdperson bust free. (Technically Rick is already free, and actually i'm not quite sure what Birdperson's current status is regarding freedom and/or independent cognition, but whatevs...)
So far so good. Onward and upward!

How do you know this, has he mentioned anything that I've missed?

Sorry, been away for the past week - but it was just a response from Jack at some convention a while back if I recall correctly.

Still, at this point it's almost our best hope...

Ya know...I have the "Level Up" sound as my text tone, and the Atlas Park theme for my ring tone.  So, I am reminded multiple times a day that there was this thing called City of Heroes, and how much, despite all evidence to the contrary, including my own gut feeling; I still hold out hope that this game will return.  If not in its previous form, then in something VERY closely resembling it.

My fear with the successor projects is that, while they might capture the look/mechanics of the game, there was something more to it that really was greater than the sum of its parts, and that aspect of it will be damned near impossible to replicate.  Like looking at a replica of the Statue of David, or any other special thing you can think of, you can see it is a very good imitation, but an imitation none the less.  I am certainly more than willing to give one, or all of them as close to an unbiased try as I can, but that nagging fear that there is something crucial, but at once undefinable, missing would be there until proven otherwise.

I played the game from go-live to shut-down.  One of my sons practically grew up playing it, and he misses it as much as I do.  Its just too bad that money, and business reputation (in the case of NCSoft in particular), have to be the overriding concern in all of this.  If the love of this game, and folks devotion to it were a consideration, we would have had it back minutes after it closed.  As it is, those things are for us to cherish, and for them to disregard.

Wow!  That turned into a sentimental, and nostalgic rant before I knew what I was doing.  Just another example of how much a miss it, and want it back.  The nice thing is, I know I am not alone here.

That's my feeling too. Anytime I see "NCSoft" I just go NO. I certainly hope one of the games when they come out do well, I just hope we aren't so jaded from waiting so long.

I kinda like that they used the storyline Paragon was planning on using for the Coming Storm for Statesman's (actually Tyrant's) backstory, but at the same time it makes me so angry.

"Yeah, the big Coming Storm storyline that the game was building up to for its entire lifetime, and which was about to go live in the next couple of issues?  It happened and you don't get to participate in it.  Here, play this reformed villain instead."

I have spent so much time reading every post, opinion and article I
Am pretty sure when it's new, debunked myth or recycled coh closure lore. I need a life.

it's been almost two years since the last "update", I don't want the dream to be dead but this worries me.

I would like to say that the Justice League is really the problem and you would see things from my point of view if it was not for them.

I think it's, to him, his best game he'd made, and he realizes that.  While he'll say CO is also a good game he's happy about, I can't help but get a feeling from another off-cuff remark of his on facebook that to him it's a game he's not particularly happy with how it turned out.  But then a lot of devs have that; they got one awesome game they can have credit for and one they don't like much.

I do wonder though what'd have happened to CoH under a PWE cryptic, I mean the neglect and lock-box spam CO has endured was to me a fate worst than shutdown these days.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Alex, you know the answer to that question. they would have destroyed what made City of. as good as it was. With next to no meaningful additions to the game, or as co is doing, just puttering along. I do not think he really meant co was a good game, it had so much more potential then City of. had, and he pancaked it away for stupid reasons.

Removing National Socialist referencing posts? i could 'not see' that coming.

On topic:
i'll admit the complete lack of any official word from the buyout team for over two years is somewhat disheartening, but i remain optimistic that we'll have something in the vein of CoH to play eventually. i've got plenty of other co-op games (computer and tabletop) to keep me busy in the meantime.
