I think my second build would probably be another fire/cold corr. Prema hasten + RoF + Sleet = Win! ..................... On second thought, it might have to roll that first. Great support and damage all in one :D

I had a kin/energy defender who kept everyone at the damage cap very easily.  So much recharge, perma hasten.....survivability from knockback in energy blast.  I also used telekinesis to perma-hold bosses in the I think it was mental mastery(no, not gonna open mids, never used it when CoX was out, never needed it anyways).
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Any of you ever tried a Fire / Ice tank ?  I took one to 50 and it was loads of fun.  I remember back in the day when we had the Dreck map.  My friend would use it for Pling with his Fire / Fire tank.  One day he asked if I could take over with my Fire / Ice tank and it was the most fun I have ever had in my gaming years (and I am 47 years old) !  I wish other MMO's could be this fun !

I didn't see a lot of ice armor the last few years. I never played one, but IIRC, they were very much defense based (correct me if I'm wrong) and had little resist, which with cascading gave the set a bad rep. I'd never use one on an ITF. Maybe if you had a defender sonic/ on the team.

My second toon was a Grav/Emp.   I didn't really like the Emp set either...my brother talked me into it.  Got him to 50 somehow.  Always kinda meant to try Grav/Storm since I heard so many people raving about that combo.
i am a big fan of Grav/Storm. My Grav/Storm on Virtue ran many, many Hamidon raids and every single TF and Trial at least twice. Enjoyed it every time.
When pets could no longer be affected by changes in recharge rate Grav/Storm became a little less impressive. (Pets would inherit the caster's buffs and Lightning Storm was a pet. Lightning Storm became Gatling Storm with high levels of recharge reduction buffs.)

My 2nd 50 was a PB, I was rather disappointed due to all of the KB, but the -KB IO allowed me to dust off my PB and use her again.
Like many an Energy Blaster i actually came to appreciate and work with the KB. Then again i also slotted my Nova form AoEs on Space Pirate Mi-chan with 2 Damage/Range HOs, so i may not have been the best role model for how to play a PB. Still, i loved being able to tag almost every spawn in a large room with a single volley of AoEs. Made gathering them up easier.
So far so good. Onward and upward!

Just don't give me speed boost in caves!

I had a Fire/Kin corr IO'd out with most of the incarnates, as well as a Fire/Kin troller on my second account. So much fun!

The Fire / Ice tank is actually resistance (fire) armor with healing.  The cool and fun thing about Fire / Ice is the two powers burn and ice patch :)

My 2nd 50 was a PB, I was rather disappointed due to all of the KB, but the -KB IO allowed me to dust off my PB and use her again.

WS was 10th to 50 when I was on my long term quest to run 1 of each AT to 50. It was a much easier experience mostly due to the V/Q changes. They were just a slightly nastier mob, not a very deadly one. I think my PB died more times to 10 than my tank did ever. WS died a few times on the way to 50, but the experience just kept getting better and better as I leveled. Sidenote: PB was Triform, WS was Human only.

Hardest to 50 at least at the time I did it: Stalker, Dominator and PB. Everyone else was a very fun experience. The change to stalkers was most welcome, no more lolstalkers and being the pity spot only. Post changes the only AT I would have some issue playing to 50 would be a PB. However, even if the servers are not reset, I might run a new one up to 50 and perhaps see if the experience is better on the 2nd run.

I'd definitely agree the PB is much harder to level (or even play) than the WS is... I played the PB a lot before I made my WS back in the early days (2005-2006?), but when I made my WS, I didn't play my PB again until after the most recent changes to Kheldians the year the game shut down.

I had a level 50 Stalker, and HATED playing it. I don't think I touched it once after it hit 50, but then again, I didn't check it out after those changes you mentioned, so maybe I'd like it more if I tried it again.

Man, all this talk is really making me miss the game even more!

You know we've talked a little about timing and when things could happen. Christmas in Paragon seems to be one target. of course, we have no way of knowing anything, but wouldn't it be awesome if we could get in some trick or treating with an awesome Halloween event?

Ah yes, I kept around an En/En blaster and a FF/En Defender for those special people who run KB folks on days when they run scrappers.  :P Generally from my experience people love to do KB but rarely love dealing with someone else's KB so its interesting to see their reaction when they have to deal with it. Every person who uses KB well and skillfully, there are many others who don't. I've seen too many stormies freezing rain a group of mobs then Gale them out of it. I was inspired to make an ice/storm when I watched one absolutely dominate the battlefield with ice slick and freezing rain and using hurricane to herd/push them into those areas.

Personally the most mow down I experienced was with a Kin Def and a Sonic Def. Damage cap and lots of -res. Amazing how much good combos and teamwork can do.

I was working on a Staff/EA stalker when the announcement was made. Got to the mid 30s before working on my CoH bucket list. It was much better than the BS/SR Stalker I hit 50 with.

PB was such a different animal than the WS. Even tri-form it felt like I was playing a 2nd class tank/blaster/defender except I didn't need to logout. Versatility was nice, but I'd rather play a tank, blaster or defender. WS was more like go out there and kick butt.

I said if before. We've missed, or will have, the events for 2 years. They should be strung, one after the other, if and when, the game comes back. I loved the "Summer Blockbuster. If nothing else there should be something to kick off the second coming! Battalion invasion? Nah, not gonna happen. Rikti invasion? maybe.

I've not been around since our beloved Paragon went silent, but I just found out about these developments and for the first time feel slightly hopeful for a return.

Personally, if it did happen, I would have no problem repurchasing all the things I bought previously costumes at al. And I'd certainly pay my two monthly subscriptions again. Even more. I've not played a videogame since the shutdown, but of course this would change that.

I kinda doubt that would happen, as SEGS has been doing the same thing for years with a forum and a try-able client, and nothing's happened.

That isn't true. According to Nemerle, he was told to cease and desist  some time ago and that's why he back peddled it to issue 2 client, assuming no one would care if he used an old outdated version.

Thunder Glove

I had a Grav/Elec Dominator, but Grav/Storm Controller is definitely a combo I want to try at some point if (when) the game comes back.  Grav was nice for a Controller due to having several direct attacks (Lift and Propel), which made it a little weaker as a pure Control set, but a Controller could use the damage.  (Also, the Singularity made up for weaker control, since it was a mini-Controller all on its own)

... okay, it's settled.  If (when) the game comes back... Grav/Storm Controller with Sorcery (or one of the other special Pools, if they're made available).

Just wanted to say I appreciate every effort still going into this game and the successors.  I booted up an old PC today and saw Mid;s Hero Designer....I immediately went to the Facebook COH groups and then came here.  This is by far my all time favorite game...I don't have technical expertise to help with anything, and with my family and job not sure I'll even get to play much if anything ever comes of it....but I root for being able to log on, and interact with the COH community in the game we all loved again.  Keep up all the great work!  Just having Icon was more than I could ever hoped for right after the game was announced to be shutting down....you've done a great job!

Okay, first of all, this is precisely why I don't say a lot about the efforts going on in this arena, because I don't want the hassle of continually having to answer questions about it, especially since I'm not really a key player in its development.

Second of all, it hasn't been three years.  Three years ago, not only was the game still up and running, but it was still three issues away from closing down.  SCoRE didn't really kick off in earnest until a few weeks after the shutdown notice, and even then, it was a mad rush to collect network traces and dissect API information.  Actually thinking about coding something up to implement that stuff didn't occur until a few months after that.  In other words, SCoRE has really only been working on this as a project for a little over a year.

Third of all, where do you get off claiming that there as been nothing that's come of it? Have you played around with Icon at all? Do you consider that "nothing"? That program came directly out of client-side reverse engineering efforts, and given that you wouldn't even be able to get into the costume editor without it, being able to actually get into and wander around the city is, in my humble opinion, hardly "absolutely nothing".

If I come off as defensive, it's because I'm in a long-running chat session with the folks who are working on this stuff, and I see the amount of time they're putting into it.  Hardly a day goes by when there's not some serious discussion going on about how to implement some server-side functionality. What I think might be lost on some people is that this stuff is hard. Like, really hard. City of Heroes wasn't built on a well-known and documented game engine, it was built from the ground up. There is no public information on how the game works internally, and trying to recreate a black box like that from scratch is extremely time-consuming.

Even the low-level network protocol used to communicate between the client and the server was designed from scratch, a variant of UDP. And it's not like there's just one monolithic piece of code that has to be replicated, either. There are account servers, authentication servers, database servers, map servers, chat servers, etc., all of which have to be implemented and working for stuff to function correctly. In other words, it's not just reverse engineering one program, but like eight or ten, each one pretty durn complex.

If you want to give up on SCoRE, then that's fine, give up on SCoRE.  Will CoT launch before it's finished?  I don't know, probably.  Will CoH relaunch before it's finished?  Maybe, but even if so, that won't be the end of SCoRE, as the people working on it have expressed to me that they don't want to be caught flat-footed if the game shuts down again in the future.

But rest assured that just because we don't post a stream of messages about the project, it's not dead, and the hyperbole about it being three years with nothing to show for it really rubs me the wrong way.

To be honest, I never tried the Incarnate stuff. The most fun I had was building characters up to around level 30, where leveling really turned into grinding. Then it's time to find another alt.

But, but, there is so much more content. So much to do at 50.... Yes, there is a bit of grind when you get into the incarnate phase, and it's fun, but once you get past it, you can do so much more..... Dark Astoria is a blast now! er was :P I thought being IO'd was great, but being an incarnate is(was) the bee's knees!
