I would but, uh.... what does ED stand for?

ED = Enhancement Diversification.  It was an early-game across-the-boards nerf to damage, accuracy...any enhancements everyone used.  It was supposedly to coerce people into using the lesser enhancements, but all it really did was piss off a significant chunk of the player base enough that they left en masse for WoW, which launched around that time.

has there been any hint of any news?

Nope.  It's been years now-- are you really expecting to hear anything about a CoH rez/IP lease at this point?  Nate and crew started their attempt back in 2014.  Sorry....no.

Try signing up for the "Wake me when there's news" thread.  That particular now-14-month-old thread was started because there hadn't been news in over a year even by that point;  it will email you if anything ever does happen, though.  I wouldn't really sit around holding your breath over it, however....

Paragon Avenger

It's time for ... the weekly update.

Talks are still on-going.  We can't tell you anymore, because---because---because you've been bad.
We love you, keep up the good work, and never allow the nay-sayers to bark up the wrong tree.  Or something like that.

I am waiting for news about the IP buy :)

yes Codewalker posted a thread about it 14 months ago.

/something/ is happening, whatever that means. there was also a hint that something was delayed due to the Nexon issue. but /something/ is still happening and whatever delays are happening or not happening now have nothing to do with anyone outside of the negotiations.

last we heard, things were going ahead in good faith.

I see no reason to assume that has changed.

what is taking them so long? who knows. There's been a lot of speculation of what could be holding them up, heck maybe they are just in the state of mulling over whether it's a good financial decision or not in the end. Or maybe the cowgons from moooounus are objecting in intergalactic court because the game aggregates their udders and causes curdling and sour milk.

aka there's a problem over there in the National Dairy Association. it could be that the leak we got saying there was a deal at all cued in other companies who had special interest to insure that the game never returned, and now they have entered the NDA to form a complaint.

but I wouldn't read too much into that. it's most likely unrealistic.

Yes, but as it pertains to the discussion at hand, and what Felderburg was questioning/referencing, that is incorrect. Felderburg was asking in respect to this post (emphasis added):

Lazy Devs and programmers are a plague that has claimed many games lately. Paragon was one of the last studios I respected. I am not saying CoH Devs were lazy at all. I am talking about new games from the last 5ish years. Look at ED... it isn't even HALF assed... its like one eighth assed....

Side note: Should I give CO a go? I hate the micro transactions in STO so how do they compare.

Not really sure that is fair.  Different developers do different things.  And many of them are just doing the job they are given.  If you have anyone to blame it is probably their boss.  Not the developers.

People seem to be confused these days.  Developers don't own the company.....they develop.  They are often just employees doing a job.

Games also take hundreds upon hundreds of man hours if not thousands.  With multiple people working on the same game.  You just don't like the standard of modern games which is basically a "arms" race for graphics and size.  You want to blame someone for pancakey games.  Blame gamers and publishers.  They are the ones who put these new expectations and standards in place.

Don't be so quick to discredit people's hard work just because you don't like it.

Many of them are actual people, and of those some are great, some are average, some are Kellogg's Frosted Flakes.  Some of them are all three, depending on the day of the week.  I know generalizations are impossible to avoid, but its all but impossible for a company full of lazy devs to get out the starting gate and deliver a product we can see their lazy asses destroy.  Every company has a diverse set of people working in their products, and "lazy devs are destroying games" is probably a generalization far enough off the truth to be disconnected from it completely.

what you are speaking of started as a trend long ago when video game companies lost their dream and became obsessed with getting the final outcome, money.

you look at developers like Gumpei Yokoi and you see the difference, they were there because they loved doing their job, their goal was to make something to entertain audiences, and rather than just assuming that market trends were a representative of what people want they made new things that followed no trends but instead their own educated guess to see who bit. now days it's all trend following, and we know who starts the trends, and we know how simple and down right boring those trends are at the end of it all, and that tells us a lot about the games spawned by trends replay value.

modern developers? most are there because of money, or there because because. they really don't like making games, it's a lot of work and they really have 0 care about their audience aside from what tactics they can use to get money from them. Of course they are going to half-ass stuff, they'll half-ass anything they can get away with. 0 drive to try, 0 drive to think, 0 drive to develop new anything.

then there's the scrum process, an unnecessary evil that just makes bad teams make worse games. And they call it 'the agile development process', agile psh yeah right. You get a bunch of people who know nothing who were hired and born yesterday saying things like "wouldn't it be cool if [their own idea based off some weird dream that really has no place in the proposed game series]?" and all of them are accepted, called "user stories" and put up on a to do list. Some may be disregarded due to time constraints or just plain laziness, or too many smoke breaks, but usually the most outlandish ones get put in first, you know the ones that someone came up with late at night that they thought was the most awesome thing in the world but really wasn't.

Then there are the devs who have some sort of mental problem which makes them unable to make logical connections so when someone spouts out a silly idea, like "lets make all the NPCs bobble heads" these devs say "well the only way we can make this work is if we add in a randomizer statistic for the battle calculations that has nothing to do with the bobble head it's just there to piss off players."

It's like; I can understand goign from A to B, but how the heck did you just put A1 and Q8 together as if something completely unrelated and not a logical conclusion at all is the only valid direct result of something entirely different? or the better question: What are you smoking?

CO? I cannot judge this game, I get bored playing it too much to actually know enough to comment. but that may just be me.

You should post them somewhere, because I don't think that they're available online anymore.

Having thought about this a litte, would anyone from paragonwiki be interested in having the files for more general perusal?

The folder is, unfortunately, 34 Gb...  Uploading that isn't going to be a quick job, and frankly, for that amount of data, sneakernet using an sd card would most likely be fastest...

Before I bought City of Heroes, I read about the powersets, and it was the Gravity Control powerset that really attracted me to the game.
Was there a power-set you guys got drawn in by?

I've yet to find another game that offers gravity control as a power.
I like the idea of gravity control vs telekinesis, because its more like magnetism. You create a gravity field that pulls objects towards it, opposed to actually physically manipulating the object itself.
Not to mention that gravity offers up potentials for wormhole and singularity creation etc.

Whups. Wrong thread.

I'll say a few things about CO.

It has had a massive sweep of nerfs lately to popular powers once again and even drove one of the resident remaining loyal players away from the game.  It's also been slowly turned into a korean grindfest with drastically increased costs for the level 40 heroic items and a few raids that I would not be surprised no one plays anymore.  It's direction has fully embraced "play for free but pay to win" with a scam twist to it, likewise so I wouldn't even trust it anymore.  Last and not least but also a large price hike on a lot of cash shop costumes was also brought into play not to long ago.

I had a good number of posts in the CO section of the forums, even a good number of changes were posted by another player there.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

please do go on. And why do you think that is?

would you settle for a Magnetism powerset?

Really though your intuition has stumbled on to something. However scientists would rather believe in a force we have no actual proof of so they can attempt to explain time and space by lumping them into a 'fabric'.

First, the important topic:

I've yet to find another game that handles crowd control the way CoH does.  It has its flaws (particularly that it's an all-or-nothing binary effect), but it's also the only game I can think of where "crowd control" wasn't just telepathy and where multiple uses of a single mez stack (rather than the target becoming resistant to mez the more you use it).

And, yes, Gravity Control was a particular favorite of mine.  I miss my Gravity/Elec and Earth/Ice Dominators, and no other game has anything even remotely similar to either.

Nope.  It's been years now-- are you really expecting to hear anything about a CoH rez/IP lease at this point?  Nate and crew started their attempt back in 2014.  Sorry....no.

Now, on this matter... it took Joel Hodgeson five whole years of negotiations to get the rights to MST3K back from Best Brains, and that was something he himself had created.  Why do you think that Nate would somehow be able to blaze through it in less than two?  And if they'd failed, what reason would there be for Nate not to say so?

It's taking longer than we all hoped, but we weren't supposed to know about the negotiations in the first place.

Elite: Dangerous, perhaps? My best guess anyways.
Yes.

Thanks dudes. I'll stay away from CO.  Sounds a lot like STO but worse.

The in-game community is decent but yeah microtransactions are everywhere(thank you, lockbox #2355431234323432, but no thanks).
50's: Necro/Dark, Fire x3 Dom, Plant/Savage Dom, Ice/Time Blaster, Arch/TA Blaster, SS/Elec Brute, Rad/Rad Def.
