Uh, no. NCsoft is selling the IP to Nate & company. Nate & company are setting up an independent company.

Such was my understanding too... Not sure how Ironwolf got that wrong...

That was also my understanding of the previous posts by Nate.

On a related note my previous sarcastic/facetious post stands since it wasn't directed at anyone new to the thread/topic who don't know what's going on. It's specifically directed at anyone who makes claims about what's going on as if they've actually taken the time to learn what's going on. "I don't get it. So, is NCsoft just going to lease the IP or what?" is fine, but declaring "NCsoft is going to restart the game, will be keeping everything, and will then shut it down in two years because they want to make us cry to fuel their tear-powered servers!" is not.
If your version of events directly contradicts what the people actually involved have stated then i will be a bit sarcastic. Which i concede is not terribly diplomatic. If it helps smooth things over i can run around flailing like a muppet afterwards. (i'll probably be doing it anyway for reasons.)
So far so good. Onward and upward!

Yes I agree there is normally no reason to be snappy, but I also felt like his posts were coming in as headstrong declaring that it was that without a doubt happening that way/

This is just a misunderstanding.  To clear it up, all we need to define what is what.  Here is my understanding of the situation:
NcSoft currently owns both the IP and the game engine of City of Heroes.
The IP is the COH characters, story lines, missions, city and character meshes and possibly the LUA scripts that sits on top of the game engine (used to alter the play of the game), and various miscellaneous files for actions, emotes, etc.
The Game Engine consists of the graphics engine, character controls and chat subsystem, Non Player Character artificial intelligence code, attacks and damage calculations,  games updates, etc, etc, etc.
The current effort is to buy the IP and lease the Game Engine to reboot the original game.  The leasing of the Game Engine will continue until the IP can move to the Unreal Engine. Te Unreal version will be COH 1.5.
This is my view of the situation.  If I'm incorrect, Irish Girl, please correct me.

Sounds about right to me. I'm not sure about the LUA scripts... -shrugs-
The terms of the lease for the game engine are yet to be worked out to my knowledge.

Believe me, the only reason I think so much about this is that I'm constantly fighting my first instinct to be sarcastic. :)

Technically speaking, its all IP.  The distinction is between the game content IP and the software implementation of the content.  There's some grey area between the two, which can probably only be resolved by the negotiating parties and not by uninformed speculation.  They are almost certainly trying to get things like the backstory and story elements of the game.  They are almost certainly not going to get (ownership of) the game engine or source code (if they had it).  Sitting in the grey area are things like the art assets of the game, like costume textures, sound effects, and the like.  They could count as part of the game software for the purposes of the deal and be licensed, or they could count as look and feel of the story elements and be bought as part of the deal.  I could see it going both ways.

Included in that grey area are things like the powers definitions, and things like game scripts that implement mission content.  They could be considered either way depending on the structure of the deal.  That's entirely a subjective decision.

I'd happily bring a time manipulator.  Energy blast.  If not, then a kin/energy defender!
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

that brings up the question...I liked the veats better thatn the heats..but the heats had some things that were fun. I think I dd my heat too soon after my first 50..I didnt quite have the experience that would have made him a lot more fun. that being said, I think the veats were what they really had in mind when they made the heats.

what was your most fun non main character? stone/kin controller...was like having a herd of boost sheep

I was guilty of the same early on - so busy I didn't grok the full deal. Then I sat down and looked at what is happening.

NCSoft won't sell the full game code. That means the entire thing with notes, developers tools, 25 - 8x10 color glossy photos and 4 part harmony.

Someone PM me when Coh is going to come back live in a month. I really don't want to miss it also got an entourage of people lined up to play it lol.

will player accounts be restored? or will we have to remake our accounts?  sorry if I missed that info if it was already said.
There is always another way. But it might not work exactly like you may desire.

A wise old rabbit once told me "Never give-up!, Trust your instincts!" granted the advice at the time led me on a tripped-out voyage out of an asteroid belt, but hey it was more impressive than a bunch of rocks and space monkies.

As best we know, the player accounts are not available, we will have to start over.
We're almost there!  ;D

The RNG hates me.
