Even if both sides really want the deal - it can take a long time. They are having to prove to NCSoft that they can develop the game. It will be done when its done.

I am working on a deal in RL that started last September expected to close in Feb.. had a restart and still working on it..

Thats what I meant when I said I had a PERSONAL understanding of how long it can take to close a deal

Me, too.  I managed to fill ITF's at midnight on Virtue on a regular basis.

I miss those...  I used to love the ITF.

SS in CoX has the stealth element that makes it hard for many people to pass up. SS + stealth IO = Invis-a-joy! I wouldn't trade it to run up a building, but I wouldn't mind seeing the ability added.

I enjoyed SS a lot...and especially the Invis-a-joy option.

But I was in for a shock with my first CoV character, who had SS.

Turns out while the hero side of things is largely flat, the villain side was anything but.

There were many, many more surfaces with split levels in them, so when I raced across a town and attempted to run over slightly raised porches and high curbs, I would often crash to a complete halt.

It got so bad I never used SS on another villain again.

Superleap, now there was a travel power!

Hey! I have a title!

Holy....smokes!    :o

Really puts my 15 to shame!   Took me 8ish years.....sheesh...

Several points:

I mentioned before I would like to get my characters back, because I didn't back them all up.

And no, I won't quote myself.

I can live without them. But I really would like all of my costume and AT sets back. I started out a subscription player like everyone else, and paid my $15 every month right up through the final month NcSoft was accepting it.

I spent little time in any SG, mainly because my excessive game-playing hours were at all hours of the day and night, and it seemed the mission statements of most SG's stated members were to show up for play on a regular basis.

Spent the first five years or so mostly soloing and pugging, and the last years largely pugging and at the end doing incarnate stuff.

One last point, we have an amazing group posting here on the forums. If the old servers were to come back, I'd suggest we'd pick one and run together.

Since I think that's unlikely, then on day one we should create an SG and join up!

I would be honored to join you should the game return.

As to getting characters back, IF the Sentinel files are truly "edit proof" as it were and IF any new owners can accept the files and restore characters, then that would be good for many that did back up their characters. I'd still make new ones and some of my L50's I was toying with deleting and rebuilding with different power sets, just keep the name and costumes.

LFM for Underground.  Level 10 Max, only brawl PST for invite.

Also count me in for this possible SG everyone is hooting and hollering about in here.

Most of the time when I deleted a character he would have like 100k or so inf. I would go to atlas and look for someone who just seemed like they were new and give them the money.

I loved the "Oh wow! thanks a lot" kind of response when we all knew it was just about enough cash to get them SOs and not much more.

I used to love being rich. :)

I never directly gave out Inf, but I did do constant free runs through AE for new people on my Widow. I figured that I could run certain maps reliably at +2x8 by myself, why not bring people in that could benefit from tons of XP, Inf, tickets, etc.? Had a few people that got REALLY pissed off at me for doing it for free. Apparently there was a big market for charging for AE farms, like I was supposed to know that. Those were actually some really fun runs, and I always started off saying the same thing to all the new players/lowbies:
"This is a free run, but I require that everyone be contributing, no one should be AFK!"
"Lowbies, you will die, a lot. Do not port out, you will rez with each level. Also, when you die, I will use you as Vengeance bait."
"Lots of buffs going out, but you must stick nearby to get them. If everyone is ready, we can charge in."
I would run in first, gather as many up at once as I could, then double nuke them all with Psychic Wail and Void Judgement. Loved having that combo.

Burnt Toast

I didn't belong to a SG/VG (I had my own solo SG). The few toons I did have on villain side never had any issues doing TFs or even regular missions. I belonged to an active global channel though and people on there were always looking for something fun to do. I never had the "couldn't find a team/tf/trial" issue on Freedom. I think a lot of it boils down to the friends you have and any global channels you may belong to when it comes to finding teams consistently.

I played on freedom.I played five and half years. The last 2 years you could tell a difference if you were not in an SG or really tried to keep up with the Incarnate stuff. The people that played red side would always say how hard it was to team, again if you were not part of a SG,and we all know what was said on the forums when AE started.
Instead of missions many were power lvling there.Good or bad it meant less people outside of Atlas Park. Going Rogue did the same thing for about 3 or 4 months and then it became a ghost town.My husband and I had a really good friend list and we ran Pugs several times a week.As the friend list got smaller and smaller and Pugs became our main form of teaming from what I experienced it seemed other than radio's and certain TF's,teaming took a lot longer to start and finish.

I went through AP and when i saw a toon I liked, with a good concept and a fun background, I handed em 500k and flew away.

I just hope that when all is said and done, we get a kickass trailer trumpeting the revival of the game. (Hopefully the new team gets someone like Angelus Animi or Leandro or TimTheEnchanter to do it!)

Why not make a collab? I'd love to see all the great video artists in a heroic team-up, celebrating our return to home.

My bad, I couldn't think of the name.  I thought the Rikti Hydra was the Sewer trial, though.

I only ever had one toon succeed at that.  </whistful memories>

This was discussed way back in this thread, the Sentinel files are missing some bits of data the game used. So they wouldn't really be useful in restoring characters.

It would be nice if they could be used, I've got backups of all my toons, but the likelihood is near zero.

I could be wrong. I've certainly been wrong before.

While I understand that all the characters we created and their storylines are now property of NCSoft, our banking information is not. I'm no expert, but I'm thinking that NCSoft can't sell our names to the company that wants to purchase CoH. I certainly am no lawyer and I can't say why I think that, but I would find it highly unlikely and unusual.

I suppose it would be possible for them to seperate our CC info from our usernames and passwords (am pretty sure I remember mine), but something in the back of my head tells me that there would be a lot of players who wouldn't remember, as it's been over a year and may likely become 2 years before this is finalized one way or another. Wasn't there some issue that some players had with verifying their account info? I might be able to remember my e-mail address from 2004, but that account got hacked and I never did get control of it again. I "might" have my old codes from the game box sets I bought, but I don't think that would be enough to prove I was me.

I also realize this is all rampant speculation. I just wanted to speculate with the rest of you.
Off to bed for me now. Y'all have fun.
There are several logistical problems with trying to bring old account data into the restored version of CoH that have been pointed out several times before. I see a lot of people getting really excited about getting their characters back, I really think people shouldn't get attached to that idea, because it seems quite unlikely at this point. It's best to be excited about playing the game itself again, and we don't know if we're getting even that at all.

Yeah....  *shrug*  Let's look at the bright side:  Freeeeeee  names!!!!!  Everything and anything imaginable.  And I say that as someone who had many 50s, and 38 beloved toons, but we'll deal with it, come what may.

And hey, even if we don't get CoH back (it's been tried many a time before unsuccessfully, let's face it), it was fun even thinking about what might have been.  And I'll bet NC is really shocked that we're still hoping....hanging on....and waiting....  They never expected that I'll bet.   :)

Wammo

All this talk got me thinking about one of my favorite characters and favorite power sets...the dark defender. I had a blast leveling him to 50. I know it isn't the most powerful or "exciting" of the power sets but it really was fun to play and I always felt like a "difference maker" in any team. The game just had so many facets of play and this was a relaxing one for me. I stayed in the background, healed and debuffed away...missing the game this morning...

Ironwolf

After editing myself - I decided to address some of the questions I have seen asked:

Servers how many?

Honestly if they are working from a snapshot it would likely be easier to have the same exact servers. All the pointers and everything have paths to the existing stuff.

In server world how much would it cost? Here let's look at Vilayer a common game hosting company:

2 x Intel Xeon E5-2620 (2 x 2.0+GHz)
Show all details...
Cores/Threads
12 / 24

Memory
32Gb

Hard Drive
1TB

Network Port
100Mbps

Bandwidth
Unmetered

€249.95

This is a basic server that you can customize up over 128bg of ram and more drives. If you went top of the line - you could pay maybe $1000 for a dedicated box that would have unmetered bandwidth and if you set them up in a server farm 3 or 4 of these could easily host your game.

Servers are normally virtual or shared - I know that there was one Virtual server with Freedom and a couple others and then another with Virtual and a couple others. Also the other 2 could fail and Test would still be up. I assume that there were 5 servers with 2 for each production and 1 for test. There may have also been a redundant mirror server for each so a total of 10.

This would total you out at about $10,000 a month for top end stuff. It may not be necessary for that level of gear. I just want to float it out that server costs while not cheap are also not expensive. You can host the entire game for the cost of one or 2 full time employees.

I have been considering hosting my own DayZ server as I could do so for about $30 a month for a 40 player server.
