So I was playing Neverwinter earlier, and the lag was bad, so I switched to CO... and got lag almost as bad there.

Obviously not my night to play Cryptic Games.

Still say I'd blame PWE first.

I dunno about any other major game on PWE servers (like NWN/STO), but, CO doesn't seemed strained/filled to capacity and it is just is hard for me to believe that people that are talented enough to make a game like CO and even get license for STO couldn't figure out how to write network code that game developers have been using for decades.

I had real bad lag recently for the second time since playing CO but this time it only lasted a day and a half. Last time it was weeks. I still seem to get some lag now and then but it's been minor enough that I haven't /netgraphed. When I complained about my recent lag here Brou said something about a known (routing?) issue and I've been hearing complaints in Local ever since of other people getting lag. *shrug* Just tossing that in for thought.. After my recent lag is when I started doing Gravi's and noticing lag symptoms with the yellow domes, too. I don't remember having so much trouble with the domes before but I didn't do so many Gravi's like I have been lately either.

It could just be crappy code but my money is on PWE as the culprit.

If it is code then I'd say that should be a top priority over anything else. Who cares about content and game balance if you can't play the game hmm?

All Cryptic's games are hosted in the same place, it's why they can do the cross-game chat thing. But it also means that if one game is lagging horribly, all the others will as well. And if one game has a massive event that pulls in heaps of players then all three games will lag because of it.

Doesn't help that they could really use a server upgrade in general, either.

Whenever you have major lag problems run a traceroute. I bet you will find probs on PWE's servers.

When I experience lag, it is random. It has been so bad that it made the game virtually unplayable to me for weeks once, and a day and a half the second time. Nothing special was going on other than bad hops on PWE servers. This tells me there is a problem getting my signal from here to there and back again that has nothing to do with Cryptic code.

I have yet to see any kind of login fervor for any Cryptic game.. Sometimes there are more people online than others but I can't remember 1 bursting at the seams due to so many people logged on moment in the last year.

What I have noticed is seemingly random lag, which, points me to a crummy connection, which, as I understand it, PWE is in charge of.

The launch of STO's Legacy of Romulus expansion and the Neverwinter launch both attracted enough people to cause severe lag for all three games for several days.

Yeah, CO has taught me to never be snug about my connection when other people complain in Zone, because, it's Russian roulette.

After spending entirely too much time on the subject I noticed a pattern forming in that connection problems with CO usually seem to be localized.. Meaning, I may have a great connection, but if you are routed to the servers differently, depending on which way the wind is blowing, your path may suck. They had this problem so bad in one area (in Texas?) that they had to route people in the entire area through a proxy server.

I always assumed PWE was in charge of the servers that Cryptic games currently sit in and that they pay the ISP bill, so, I always blame them..

Was thinking about this thread last nite as the red countdown text kept popping up on my screen and as I was bouncing around a Gravi like a pinball on the moon.

Finally.. Reluctantly.. I /netgraphed and yeah it was bad. Figured well, funtime over. Time to go sit in the corner with Kaos.

Then *poof* all was well and the queue lit up until I had my fill.

I've been having problems off and on too. Hoping my luck holds and yours gets better.

You're not encumbered by bandwidth limits like me.. Fire up some Secret World!  ..  ?

Just saying, knowing what I know now with connection probs and Cryptic/PWE games, it seems like a really really good idea to have a backup game from another company.

Then when the connection problems hit, you're outtie. Still having fun.

I have Secret World, but haven't gotten beyond the tutorial once really.

I have DC Online but I mostly have been running the vault missions as they don't really have content for the non -Geared toons and I don't like grinding.

Mostly when I can't get on CO or STO or NW I am playing on Minecraft.

Lately I've been playing with the minecarts. :D

Don't know if it counts but I'm still playing Fortuna.. My other - other favorite online thing was making new builds but now with the wiki offline... ugh. It's great that an archive of it exists but it doesn't have every single page, the search doesn't work, and it's slowww.

Recently found out that I can play with costumes and check out powers and be queue'd for Gravi in my hideout for a fraction of the bandwidth of sitting in MC. That's kinda cool.

So right before I watched Agents of Shield I was running a quick mission and everything seemed okay. I get on afterwards and the lag hits me hard again.


I'd be less aggravated if I hadn't just spent a chunk of money on Zen right before the lag started.


Though Netflix seems to be getting more laggy for me than usual too so it may not be on Cryptic/PW's end.

I think the time my worst & first lag hit was ~ the time I had decided to 'commit' to CO and was also ~ the same time I first spent money on Zen. I came on here and ranted about how Silver > Gold and how I couldn't believe anyone would sub to a game that didn't have a reliable connection. I was super super unhappy..

I got kicked offline earlier at the very end of my first Alert with IDAK, a new toon. I'm like "awww man, here we go again..." and then I look and noticed I was kicked off the entire Internet, not just the game. doh!

Well I was able for almost an hour without lag ... and then I got disconnected from the server while fighting Chimera. :D


But Probe 1985 is now 30, so he only has 10 more levels to go!

Hey, check this out. This afternoon all three games (CO/STO/NWO) went offline and for 5 mins no one could log back in including me.

I always like moments like this when I'm having connection problems, like lately. Way better recognition than a service ticket.
