Source of the Atlas Park theme song.
« on: December 03, 2013, 02:51:00 AM »
I nearly spat out my coffee when I heard this.
Ok, I reading about this WNUF Halloween special from 1987, so I looked it up on youtube to see if it was there, I started to watch the trailer then BAM! Atlas Park jingle.

Is this common knowledge and I missed the boat or what?

It's been long known that the CoH Devs purchased stock sound (or glommed onto public domain files). People have reported hearing CoH music in many other settings.

The one I always remember is one of the episodes in I think season 6 of the new series of Doctor Who, among other various things layered on top of it, has the TARDIS make the Twilight Grasp sound effect.

The "Blaster" sound effect (when the AT was chosen on the character creation screen) is definitely a stock laser sound effect that I've heard in cartoons dating back to the 1960s.  It was one of the first things I noticed when I logged into the game for the very first time.

When I first tried out Champions Online, I immediately noticed that the aliens in the tutorial make the same grunting noise as Devoured Earth bosses, and the sound effect for the Glacier's Snow Storm is the same as Hurricane from Storm Summoning.  It made me incredibly homesick.

Me too, and the longer I played it the more aware I became of how close some of the sound effects were (the aliens also do the Vahzilok zombie sounds too). With that and how 'artificial' everything looked to me... I just couldn't play it. :'(

The Justice League cartoons also used a lot of the same stock sound effects (like explosions, the 'casting dispersion bubble')... the explosion sounds are the most common and I've heard them all over the place.

I played so many characters of all AT's, and for so long, it's hard not for me to pick out the sounds.

I think I can top this list with "most unusual place", though I do hope it doesn't come across as too inappropriate. Let's just say that there is a particular adult film of questionable caliber *cough* that is themed around super heroes that very blatantly uses the Atlas Park music in the intro scene.

Spoiler for Hidden:
It's called Stonewall and Riot for those whose curiosity simply must be sated, though be aware that it is, in fact, of a non-heterosexual nature.

With a name like that, I'd be amazed if it was heterosexual.
