Any regrets or unfinished business?

The *thing* with MMOs (or at least *a* thing) is that there is always another goal or milestone ahead which motivates us to keep playing. CoX not only had such things in spades, it also encouraged "alt-itis" which meant we often had multiple characters for all of whom we had lofty ambitions. And with the closure, those ambitions can't be realised.

Perhaps you always wanted to level a particular character or archetype but never got around to it. Perhaps you were partway through a dream build. Or maybe there was a badge or costume set you wanted to unlock but which remained elusive. What unfinished business, what loose ends did you leave behind that you would've liked to see to the end?

In my case, I would've liked to finally get around to levelling my SS/Will brute to 50. He was one of my cooler character designs but I never got on with the playstyle and he languished in the low/mid-levels for most of his existence. I suspect he was very much a late-bloomer and would've been mighty indeed at 50 but I didn't persevere with it when I had the chance. It would also have been nice to get one of the "Master of..." TF badges, but I never got around to it. There're a few others, but if I could play today those would probably be toward the top of my "to do" list.

Kyriani

I never did tier 4 all of my incarnate abilities on any character. I had hoped to have done that at least on my ill/rad controller (the character that could be considered my main in city of alts/heroes)

Cinnder

- Never made a shield character.
- Never did the Doc Quaterfield TF.
- Never broke 1325 badges on my main.

This is making me sad.  :'(

FatherXmas

Never finished all of the original CoH content.  Never finished all of the content in CoV or GR.  Never played a Stalker to L50.  Actually I only had one L50 in the 8 years.  Didn't get a chance to visit the call box.

Oh so many regrets.

Second Chances

I have no regrets, or even unfinished business I care that much about, but I had lots and lots of unstarted business.

I've gotten into the habit, with games, of not seeing the new thing as quickly as possible... instead I keep enjoying the stuff I have already until I feel like I have played that out to my satisfaction. Normally that works great (especially with new games, since by the time I get around to buying them, they are all tested out and patched up and they cost less than $10... the miracle of living in Computer Savings Time ^_^7), but it is a mixed bag when your MMO is closed up ahead of its time. :(  With all the stuff that was being added in the post-freem-15 CoH, there was a ton that I had yet to complete. For instance, I'd gone through blueside First Ward fully, but only once... hadn't done redside there at all, hadn't done Night Ward at all (the same, obviously, for any story arcs added after that). Heck, there were new powersets I hadn't even added to my account yet, so there was a lot more to do there, too.

It seems like normally a once-burgeoning MMO would get to sit for a while at maintenance mode towards the end of its lifetime, so you'd have time to play it out, but for CoH, that mode was in the middle (frankly, it is amazing how much they did get done during that period... I admire the dedication they showed).

Thunder Glove

Never got to play Plant or Illusion Control.  Never got my SoA his pets (not even including his Epic and Lore pets - imagine all the spiders...).  Never got my Staff/Dark Brute to 50.  Never got to try out Beast Mastery.  Didn't get any of my MMs to 50 except my Bots/Storm (I really wanted to get my Thugs/Traps to 50).  Didn't get to run SSA2 with all of my characters.  Didn't get a chance to really give Sorcery a run for its money (let alone all the other sets I was looking forward to).

In general, I never got to continue making all the characters that still sit in the back of my brain, demanding to be made.

I "went rogue" for a beast mastery MM, my last character before sunset. My only regret (apart from not seeing him through to the end) was that the Nature secondary never saw the light of day as it would've been a perfect accompaniment, both practically and in a conceptual sense. It was thematically fun to play (my character himself was an animal that varied by costume) but ultimately no different from the other melee pet sets. Speaking of which...

Thugs/Traps was one I always wanted to make but never did. I always felt that combination was quite unbalanced, particularly in terms of single target ownage. I don't think any other combination of any archetype in the game could match Thugs/Traps for soloing and specifically, soloing archvillains. The Posse ability in particular was above and beyond even the temporary "seventh" pet available to zombie MMs. Combined with the superlative control in Traps even Recluse himself would wind up paralyzed by explosive vomiting while getting beaten down by punks.

Thinking back actually, I did have a thugs MM for a time (I think on a second account when I ran one for a time). Called Bubba Gum, he was black with an afro and 70s 'tash. The thugs all had typical "blacksploitation" type names too. I imagine he'd have been fun to play.

I didn't get any epic ATs to 50 at all. I think the closest I got was 35 with a peacebringer but I really struggled with that character.

Kemphler

I never really finished all the story arcs. That was my goal, and I started making headway during the final year of the game...There were also a few character builds that I never got around to finishing up, like my Time/Elec Defender (Chronorat), my Fire/Stone Tanker (Volcantus), my Ice/Kin Controller (The Mighty Snowcone). I'm really looking forward to remaking these characters in some form or another with one of the Plan Zs. And I suppose there were quite a few RP arcs that got cut short as a result, too.

Shenku

My only real regrets are that my SG basically broke appart from the news, and not many of them hang around on these forums, so I only hear from them once in a blue moon on our SG's website which is virtually abandoned now...

That and never getting to do the incarnate content...

SerialBeggar

My biggest regret is that I didn't finish giving all my characters a final respec.  While I did respec a lot of them during the last couple of months, I still had quite a few to go.   They all had good, playable builds, of course, but I wanted to give them an end of game, tidying and tighten up, along with finally giving them some of the pricier and new special IOs I had been hoarding.  Some characters still had non-inherent Fitness.   :(

As for new content, I haven't seen a lot of the new stuff.  I don't miss them though because starting way back around when Faultline was introduced, I had enough alts that switching back and forth between them, I couldn't keep the story arcs coherent anymore anyway.  That said, I really was expecting to get around to them eventually when I got really bored with the old content.

I never got "THE SEAGULL!" *insert fanfare here* to level 50

Castegyre

I don't even remember how many 50s I had. I knew what I liked to play and I explored those ATs and power sets pretty fully. So I don't really regret much there except for maybe not trying out more incarnate content.

I do regret not being there at the end. The closer the end came, the more quiet and depressing the game became for me. I played red side mostly and it was empty a lot of the time. Many of the people I knew were gone, and the few that remained were mostly afk when they were on or not talking. It made me sad to even log in, so eventually I stopped doing it. So I wasn't there when the game shut down and I missed seeing the City go.

Minotaur

I didn't make a martial arts scrapper till the last week of the game because I hated the KB on the early ST attack, so I plugged a -KB IO in that, and on the final Monday made a MA/shield scrapper called Kinda Lingers (as well as the obvious, this was also the name of the final song of the final episode of a well loved British TV series).

At shutdown, I was logged on to her, she was 50+2 fully IOd out and one of the most fun toons I played. I really regret not having more time playing her.

thunderforce

I hadn't done all the SSTFs. If my checklist is to be believed, that's the only blueside badge mission/arc/TF/whatever I hadn't done with someone, somewhere.

Night-Hawk07

There were quite a few TFs/SFs, Trials, and even iTrials to go through. Was just starting Night Ward on my Praetorian character right around the time of shutdown too. Would've liked to have finished that.

JWBullfrog

NO REGRETS! Never any regrets.

There wasn't a wasted minute or second in the game. All the time I spent in game was worth the trouble, even if I wasn't doing anything "important" right at that moment. I got to do silly and stupid things just because I could (jumping off the side of the ski chalet anyone?) and it was worth every minute.

I would have loved to see the I24 content go live and the end of the Pandora storyline. I wanted to fight the Batallion and see if more than 50 people ever got around to finding (not to mention, playing) my AE mission. I wanted to see if I could get a scrapper up to 50 (melee is not my thing.)

I wanted to rescue Fusionette just one more time, try and save my Doppleganger (and maybe succeed this time), try once again to give Seer Marino some peace of mind, and help Penny Yin find her father once more. It's all unfinished business.

It shouldn't have to be.
As long as somebody keeps making up stories for it, the City isn't gone.

There's something in that. I'll never regret the time I spent, in the wee hours of the morning before the black dawn, having Doctor Jameson emerge from Praetoria, his arcs finished.

Pinnacle Blue

My one regret is that I never got to participate in a DKTF.  I leveld a Warshade on Virtue just so I could and was about to begin slotting him in earnest when NCSoft took a large steaming dump on that goal.
Warshades don't take Alphas.  They give Alphas.

Yeah. I would have loved to play a Donkey Kong Task Force too. Jumping my way up a building construction site that for some bizarre reason had a thousand barrels stored at the top, to face off against a gigantic Rikti Monkey with nothing but Gabriel's Hammer. All to rescue a pretty princess. (Well okay, it was probably Percy Winkley. That little knob just couldn't stay un-kidnapped for two straight minutes.)

*sigh* Sounds like it would've been awesome.

This
My High Level Regrets are
-Never getting my Time/Sonic defender to the iTrials my VIP status had just barely run out before EFFING NC SOFT pulled the plug, I've looked in mids and this toon would have been godly
-Triumph wasn't able to get "The Hard Way" badge
-Not exploiting the hold set conversion bug more(hehe)
Chance Jackson was my Global, I mostly played on Triumph Toons: LIEGE CHEETATRON X - Bots/Traps/Mu lvl 50 +3; DOWN RIGHT FIERCE - SJ/Fire/Soul Brute lvl 50 +3; FIGHT OF YOUR LIFE -KM/Nin/Fire Stalker lvl 50 +3; TIME MAY CHANGE ME - Time/Sonic/Dark; INFERNAL SAMURAI - DB/Fire/Fire lvl 50 +3 replaced by "NITORYU" - DB/WP probably a brute; THUNDEROUS BRUTE - Elec/Shield Scrapper; And Many More!
