GenCon- To Old Friends I've Never Met.

Lycantropus

Just got back (and recovered from) GenCon and wanted to thank everyone who stopped me or remarked on my AP33 shirt on Friday.

I wore it on purpose as a statement (heck, I ordered it so I could wear it for that purpose) just to 'show my colors' there. CoH is still a part of my gaming experience (the SG we met and formed there is still my weeknight game group, plus I'm hooked on logging into Icon here and there) and I really wanted to express that somehow. I needed to.

I remember when D&D was called Chainmail (but not too long before it was called D&D ;) not 'that' old) and it has not had a... profound... an impact as City of Heroes apparently has. I'm a huge fan of super heroes, and it was my first MMO; whether it wasn't allowed to outstay its welcome or it was a work of accidental genius that kept me coming back for more.... there's no denying I still miss it horribly.

Anyway, thank you old friend's I've never met before then. Thank you old friends here I have yet to meet (or only read here on the forums). I wanted to go up and hug Mercedes Lackey for the effort she put into saving "Our City" but decided even wearing my AP33 shirt, that would probably be weird, so refrained...

Friday was proof to me for us City of Heroes players... We're still out there. We're still gamers of various stripes, even if we're not all wearing a shirt pointing it out.

It wouldn't have been. If there's one thing I picked up from even the very small time that I was around Mercedes Lackey, it was that she's a very graceful and wonderful lady who loved CoH just as fiercely as all of us, and would have quite accepted the hugs.

Ms. Lackey Gave me a high five for my AP33 shirt. I wanted to get a picture with her too but was too shy to ask.

I also got a lot of people giving positive feedback on the shirt. Which I also wore on Friday. Sad I didn't see you with yours.

Love this community. I kept saying to everyone who came up to me "next year in Paragon". Keep hope alive.

Listen to the 'mustn'ts'. Listen to the 'don'ts'. Listen to the 'shouldn'ts', the 'impossibles', the 'won'ts'. Listen to the 'you'll never haves', then listen close to me... Anything can happen . Anything can be.

Carpe diem my friend. And, sure I can be more ... boisterous than most, and I, also, absolutely wanted a picture with VV. She's a wonderful lady, and what's more is she's a *shining* member of our community. Sometimes it just never hurts to ask. So long as she had time before having to run to her next panel, I feel confident in saying she'd have said yes.

She even autographed one of her books while standing in the packed back room at Weber's on Saturday. She didn't even stay to eat. She just wanted to stop by and say hi to *us.* That's how much we mean to her. :)
