Mighty No. 9
« on: September 02, 2013, 08:40:15 PM »
Finally, some gaming news that has me excited.

Keiji Inafune (the creator of Mega Man) and his new company comcept, along with Inti Creates (the team behind Mega Man 9 and 10), are making what is essentially a new Mega Man game without the Mega Man IP.  Part of the team includes the music composer from Mega Man 1 and the level designer from Mega Man 1 and 2.

It's on Kickstarter, and it's already been funded after only two days (but I'm hoping it'll make those stretch goals, particularly the Mac and Linux versions): http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightyno9/mighty-no-9

I hope it lives up to its pedigree.

Holy crap. Now that is how you reach a goal and it did it with cartoonish artwork, old fashioned side scrolling, unrealistic proportions.

And see at the bottom there where it show who is who. I don't know those people nor even heard of them (besides the lead guy. Heard about him a while back from Mega Man stuff.), but looking at the project and reading that page alone I figured out who is working on the project and who does what, and their qualifications and past work and not only states that it's community focused, it shows and lays out how they plan on doing it and specific examples of what type and actions of involvement. Just reading that page alone, I know more abut them than I know about the leaders of the three projects. Granted though, I haven't visited their pages in a about a month or so now  ;D and missed the updates in that time period.

Only heard of this today, only read the page today, and already have me wanting to donate. That is the type of feeling a kickstarter should portray.

When I heard about this, and saw the design for the main character, I nearly died from excitement. If I had money to burn, I would totally kickstart this. Megaman is my second favorite gaming franchise, right behind Viewtiful Joe. I hope this is a worthy successor to it, as they are promising.

Inti Creates has proven they know what they're doing, so I'm confident it will.

(Also, it seems the music is being done by the same person who was responsible for the music in the first Megaman. THAT has me excited beyond words.)

Well it'll be interesting how much they will get in the end.

yup.

Right now with the time winding down for a certain project to post, I'm reading up more on kickstarter and how it works, the risks, challenges, what can go wrong, what has gone wrong, what can go right, what has gone right, and re-reading their privacy statements just in case anything changed. Asking people have been fruitless. One side "oh it's perfectly safe, nothing can go wrong." And back in 1912 they said the Titanic was unsinkable and didn't need anymore lifeboats blocking the view. See how that worked, even though it was small chance of it happening, it happened.  Or "it's a total scam." Wouldn't they be on the verge of shutting down? So I guess I must go see for myself and go from there.
