City of Landscapes
« on: December 13, 2012, 04:53:27 AM »
Greetings! I've been mostly lurking around here, but since the game's closure, I've been digging through all my screenshots. I've shared a few on my blog and on twitter, so I thought I would post about them here as well.

As a photographer IRL, one of my biggest regrets is not taking more screenshots of all the amazing sights in the game. But with all the cool stuff I'm seeing now - like the news about the costume creator, the DEMOlition tool, etc., etc., I'm looking forward to the possibility of revisiting some of those places. (thanks to all involved for their hard work!)

Anyway.. Here's a link to my blog. Feel free to download any you like.. Enjoy!

Also, please post your own scenic shots! I'd love to add more to my rotation of desktop wallpapers! :)

Here are a couple of my faves *sigh*......want to go back there

FYI, if you have JPEG screenshots produced by the client, try to upload them without getting resized or otherwise modified. The client embeds exact map name and coordinates into them.

I'll have time tomorrow to put together a small tool for viewing that information, so hold on to your screenshots! :)
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

What bums me out most is when I see those pictures I know EXACTLY where they all are.  I wouldn't be able to do that, look at a random picture and know where it was taken, in the very small town I've lived in for 25 years.  I use to joke that I could give better direction of how to get somewhere in Paragon City than in real life.

I have a boatload of landscapes, I'm actually going to put them together into zip files eventually for people to use as they would like. :)

Yup! I actually dumped all my screenshots into my photo management tool (Apple Aperture for the curious), which shows all the metadata stored in them. I was also able to do some editing on them like normal photos (white balance, colour tweaks, etc.)

I'm totally the same way. I always discover new places in my own home town every time I join a local photowalk. :P

A friend of mine is working on panoramas of every zone, except certain ones like the original Atlas Park. He even used that little 'exploit' go to dead zones to do them, like old Faultline and Rikti Crash Site.

I'm going to post a few of these. I'm saying now to reiterate, these are -not- mine. I had nothing to do with them. They were made by an old friend of mine, one of the first friends I ever made on Virtue in early 2007. His global was @Tomanton.

If I messed up zone names, feel free to correct. I'm quite certain I got them right. Tomanton didn't say which zones were which.

Here's something to grab map name and coordinates for a given client-made  jpg screenshot:
http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/1KHCEPQK/CoH_ShotTags.rar_links
Obvious beta, lacks a proper GUI - hope you can bear file selection dialogs and message boxes. :p
Camera PYR is not shown, since it's not stored in the screenshot.
