gog.com has a sale today and might go on for a while...
« on: December 13, 2012, 06:01:36 AM »
http://www.gog.com/gamecard/freedom_force_vs_the_3rd_reich

It's no city of heroes, but I remember this game being rather fun, and since you do get to customize your characters a bit (unless I'm way off) it's roughly $3 for some light entertainment.

I figured there must be quite a few like-minded individuals that would be interested in grabbing this while it's on sale for around 50% off. I'd be remiss if I didn't share.

Ah, freedom force.

I only played the first one, but it was great, and very superhero-ish.

The entire game looks like a comic book, and has visual sound effects even! (If I remember right)

Like POW! and KAPOW! etc.

Yes, you can customize characters. Well in the first one you could, dunno about the Reich one.

You could also demolish entire buildings, superjump, wield scenery objects (bench, phone booth, etc), and throw them and stuff.

I highly recommend the first one too  :D

Wow, PartyKake, thank you for that link. There are LOTS of cool games there. (And on SALE!)

Whoa! Thanks for the heads up on that site. There's a few titles there that I spent FAR too much time on in years gone by. Total Annihilation: Kingdoms, M.A.X., Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights..... and it looks like these are versions that will run properly on today's systems. Holy cow, I might have to pick up some of these :D

I haven't played Freedom Force in forever. I used to be part of the modding communities for it, some of which still exist as far as I know :)

Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich does allow for character customization, but you might have to look for customized models around on the internet or get into skinning your own to get the appearance you want.  One advantage to the game is that it is highly moddable.

Indeed. I used to create skins for modding Freedom force back in the day. Even for someone like me, who does not know how to create meshes, the game was very, very easy to mod.

For people who buy or have Third Reich, original Freedom Force, or both.. here:

http://www.alexff.com/

The above is a modding site that has been around *very long*, for Freedom Force.

The owner of it even seems to be making his own superhero game!

Seems to be all the [Rage] lately!

I miss making those jokes.

Woohoo! I love using mods :D I got hooked on it back during the Total Annihilation days. I've used them a lot in games like Fate and Torchlight, and I'll be setting some up in Minecraft once the modding API comes out and they don't break after every update.

In fact it was an adventure maker for Neverwinter Nights that lead me to look up and try CoH. His name's Twoflower, and after playing and loving his NWN modules I checked out his blog, where he would mention CoH now and again. Eventually I gave it a shot, and here I am!

And speaking of Freedom Force, I picked both of those up on Steam a couple months back during a sale. Haven't tried them yet, but they look awesome. :)
