I have been really depressed since the shutdown of CoH, and I'm pretty f***ing tired of it, I'm not going to sit aside and cheer anymore, I'm writing to Disney. I'm posting my letter so that I can get some input on any changes they the community might suggest before I send it off, as well as boost morale for our cause. So here it is...
Dear Robert A. Iger
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Daniel Avino and I am writing you in support of the SaveCoH community. As I'm sure you are well aware, the Korean based company NCSoft has shut down the MMO game City of Heroes and it's devopment studio Paragon Studios and has created a massive uproar of fans. Much of the community has taken up the task to fight for the game they love, and like myself, many other players of City of Heroes have no interest in other MMO games, they just don't appeal to us like City of Heroes. Since it's release City of Heroes has dominated the Super Hero MMO genre for the 8 years it was running, both Champions Online and DC Universe Online are not nearly as succesful as City of Heroes despite new technology in graphics and ideas. When the game was shut down, it was still making a profit, and according to some, making more money since it's Free to Play release. As a standard in the MMO community, a subscription is usually $15 each month, and as a VIP subscriber, I was not only paying $15 per month for VIP content, but was purchasing the majority of additional content such as new costumes and powers which Paragon Studios were creating on a regular basis. I was spending at least $250 each year playing City of Heroes and have been a regular player since 2006, I am certain most of the player base was spending a comparable amount of money, I was always running into player who had costumes and powers only available through additional purchase, and playing VIP content that only paid subscribers could access. I believe purchasing City of Heroes can not only be very profitable for Disney, I am sure it will also improve their image in the gaming community in general, while also giving them their first step into the MMO industry with a game that was not only successful, but dominating the Super Hero MMO genre which was only shut down because NCSoft wanted it so despite the wishes of not only the City of Hero players, but the entire MMO community in general. NCSofts shutdown of City of Heroes has caused their stocks to plumit and further tarnished their image. Their investers have questioned their judgment and even the Korean times are baffled at how their decision was supposedly good for their company, and their mistake created a rare oppurtunity for Disney to correct. May I also remind you that NCSoft bought City of Heroes from it's developer Cryptic Studios and once it was purchased, NCSoft seemed to have no intentions on promoting the game further. Despite the lack of promotion, which didn't seem to exist at all, City of Heroes still thrived and dominated any competetors within it's own MMO genre, and with Disney's experience and active promotion of the game, the players can return to the game they love, as well as bring in new players to tryout what new ideas and content Disney can provide for the community. The players of City of Heroes love our game, it has brought together families, as children and their parents have played and become closer together, people have met their spouses through the game, to the City of Heroes community, this is not just a game, it is much more. Disney has the money, resources, and influence to gain NCSoft's attention and deflate their misplaced ego. They are the only ones who are interested in watching our game die and the City of Heroes community refuse to let something so important to them be snuffed out without a fight, and we intend to give them a fight the likes which they have never seen. We are many but are still fighing a large corporation and need aid, the fans of City of Heroes can keep up the fight for a long time to come, but Disney can end the fight and gain the respect of an entire community and the MMO industry, all while extending Disney's place among a new industry and taking it in directions that they have yet to explore, and with a game that well equipped for the journey.
Please give me your feedback and let me know if anything needs to be changed or addressed, let us not give up hope, BANZAI!!!
