A thought and a question

In 2007, Tom DeSanto bought the media rights for City of Heroes for a movie / TV show. Working in the business for a few years, he likely still has those rights.

Could someone locate a way to contact him? I had an idea to either purchase the rights from him, or to work with him to begin just such a project. I have the contacts and equipment to produce a movie, but I'd given up on filmmaking years ago. For this, I would pick it up again. It would not be hard to make a trailer to get excitement going, although then I'd be facing the mess of fundraising, the part of filmmaking i've never enjoyed. I'd use the Web of Arachnos novel to work from, as a classic 1930's feel would be popular. The trailer would put additional pressure on NCSoft.

Lol, I posted this very same idea on Star Power! Lets hope you get more help than I.

We can do the fundraising and a movie really would help.

I have no idea how to contact him, but this is an awesome idea. I fully support the suggestion, and will join the search for his contact information.

Wow, the mini-bio on this guy is pretty impressive.  Say what you want about the X-Men trilogy and the Transformers movies (all of which, not including the final Transformers, were fun movies at the very least), but this guy has some big names and a history of making big money that come with him.

Anyone having any luck with this? I haven't found anything yet myself, just curious.

Talking to people who know him already. Even having only worked on 5 movies, I still have my contacts and friends in the industry. (for the record, my Bacon score is 2) Hoping to reach him this upcoming week.

If you actually do get to him, remind him that if the game dies, the option he took on it for film-making becomes worthless.

This is a fantastic idea.  With monetary support and our current command of media attention (at least in the gaming world), this could be a very tantalizing idea for Mr. DeSanto.  And the pressure on NCsoft would be huge.  I'd be willing to bet they would reconsider letting the game go if a film about it was in production, or possibly even being considered.

Being said, we shouldn't get too ambitious or hopeful.  As I'm sure anyone in the film industry can tell you, all this business takes a ton of money.  And we'll need to recapture DeSanto's interests as well.  Still, I love it.  Good catch, downix.

Taken a bit of time, but got some information off of IMDBPro once I got my account there back again.

The project is still under development, and has both a distributor and director attached. It is a 3D animated movie, to be distributed by Dreamworks and directed by Kristi Reed, who you may know from her previous work such as Tekken: Blood Vengence and Blade of the Immortal.

I will now work to contact and see what happens from here.

I wonder if I can submit my name to work on the trailer...

(Admittedly, I always had this fantasy about making the COH film myself since DeSanto seems to have given up on it...)

Anyone with an agent can. Talking to an old friend of mine with one now.

If anyone here has an agent I can pass along his information.

If Dreamworks is involved could we send letters to them? Maybe links to the Petition?

I've worked in the movie industry for a long time. You go through agents if you want to end up anywhere besides the circular filing cabinet, in my experience.

figured there would be a protocol, but thought I would ask :)

Random question...

How much involvement does Spielberg still have in Dreamworks?

He has heavy involvement in a LOT of good kids movies.

He's shown a strong propensity for GOOD super-type movies.

It's a niche that might appeal to him.

AND it's a niche that's got proven charitable potential *plus* benefits to the elderly and disabled....

I know this one's a REALLY long shot, but...if someone can make the shot, it might just help.

*cough* Just don't let him write the end... *cough*

He's GREAT at special effects, but...well. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and A.I. both took a turn for the "wha?" about 5-15 min. before the end. As examples.

As I understand it, Spielberg is the only member of the founding SKG trio (Spielberg, Katzenberg, Geffen) who is still associated with the studio.

Well, then, I have to give him credit: I haven't seen a Dreamworks movie suffer from the bad ending syndrome I was noting. So I dunno what his pattern is. ^^;

Uh...He didn't write the end of Crystal Skull. He flat out said that Lucas wrote the end, and Lucas had creative control. (If you do some digging, you should be able to find the quote.)

He basically apologized for the elements that Lucas insisted on.

AI I can't comment on, not having seen it. ;)

AI was developed by Stanley Kubrick and Spielberg took it over after the director died. Minority Report was the other piece the two men were developing together, but was Spielberg's direction with Kubrick as producer for that one, while this was to be reversed for AI.

Segev

Good to learn! My apologies for the comments regarding Crystal Skull, then.
