Anyone else a bit surprised at how much the news sites seem to dig the SaveCoH vids? It just never occurred to me that anyplace besides something like Machinima.com would be doing individual articles on them.

Nope.  We're largely a visual media society these days.  If you have the option of watching something vs. reading a transcript, most people are going to watch instead of reading.  I mean, how often do you see "tl;dr" after a long post?  I have yet to see anyone comment "tl;dw" (didn't watch).

LOL well you DO need to be careful with that too in the video world. tl;dw is usually said as, "There goes 5 minutes I wish I could get back."

But it's not really about the idea that people would rather watch than read. It's that the videos are actually appearing as the actual topic of articles, rather than afterthoughts or examples to support the topic [SaveCoH campaign]. That's something I never saw coming.

IMO if the video clip is more than 5 minutes long i usually dont bother watching unless its something that really really interests me

i usually use the same for an article though too, if its a written article thats too long i just skim it unless its something that really interests me

True.  However, if the video is well done, it's less common to see that comment.  With text, even if it's really well written, people are going to see (visual again!) how long it is and either skip or skim it.

(I find it quite clever when I see a site split long article into multiple pages to keep each page short enough to hold interest.  Once you get a reader hooked with the first page, they're more likely to stay with you and look at the rest of the pages in the the article.)

And usually with a lot of pictures/screenshots. I noticed that technique as well.

This one is only peripherally related, but it's interesting to here what the "executive producer" of CO has to say about his game.
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

Uh-oh...  Forgive the cliche - or appreciate my usage of it in this instance  ;)
But, I'm inclined to think that = "Things Just Got Real"  :D

And, I'm willing to continue my "realignment of personal focus" = to make sure that we're "Keepin' it Real"!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmTOM2fuFwk  *@1:30 => "The(ir) standard of society is motivated by greed."

Make no mistake, I intend to 'flip the script' on "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong" = I'm all in - in betting against I/Us/We being the unfortunate character in the semi-classic Chapelle skits here.

My second thought after re-reading this was, "Oh - No - They - Didn't"!
I suspect this might be remembered as the time that this NCsoft FB poster, "chose, poorly"...  Yes, that's a movie reference, one that I suspect they may not readily understand the significance of here - due to it being a somewhat 'foreign cultural reference' for them. (Maybe not?)

But, I plan to make good use that 'take'/tactic in most of my posts here - [1] for the sake of some much needed levity & [2] for a degree of obfuscation - so that few of NCsoft's folks lurking here would 'get my drift', at least not - 'right off the bat' - as it were.
I'm also hoping that the ones who do "get it" - will have it 'sink-in' and then suffer a dose of the PubRel-Horror they've gotten themselves into here! :o

 Dear NCSOFT Facebook Fan,
We feel immense gratitude towards your love and enthusiasm of 'City of Heroes'. It has been quite the privilege and we would like to thank you all. 'City of Heroes' is the world's first and best Super Heroes MMORPG. It has received unconditional love for more than 8 years and it is like a family member of this company.
However, to provide a better game and service in the future, we have made the tough decision to discontinue the game. It was very hard on all of us here at NCSOFT.
NCSOFT will strive for a better game and superior service and anticipates the day that we will meet again. We are confident that we will not look back towards today's choice with regret.
Lastly, for the users who enjoy other games of NCSOFT, we would greatly appreciate it if you can hold back the negative and hurtful comments.
Thank you very much.

It would seem that all my posts have been removed from NCSoft's page. Nor can I comment now.

Nevermind. Plenty of other players to post there. I'll go post on Logitechs, Nexon, NCSofts other pages and all their games.

No. I'm not going to give up NCSoft. You want to play dirty. Fine by me mate.

I know it's posted here but can I ask everyone to hit up this thread and responde, it's a great artical.
http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/the-save-city-of-heroes-campaign-reveals-ncsofts-firewall-of-silence/?fb_comment_id=fbc_123149507837704_136995_123451401140848#f350b4f0da3854

My response is below. Sorry about the wall of text, I couldn't work out how to use spoilers on this board.

"NCSoft are not only not communicating, they are actively trying to silence anyone who points out their immoral and shady business practices. My Facebook posts asking for CoX to be saved have "disappeared". I've kept two accounts fully subscribed and bought every costume/extra ever released including $100 of points a month before the closure for which I will not be refunded. "It's just a customer" is their thinking.

This is the fifth time they've closed a MMO; this one obviously has a dedicated fanbase which made the game profitable.

No product from NCSoft, Nexon or any of their joint advertisers will ever be purchased in this household (and I'm a long-standing Logitech customer).

NCSoft's attitude is to take your money right before - and after - a completely unexpected and inexplicable sunsetting. Added to which is the bare-face lies about "exhausting all sales options" when we know they didn't even return calls. After the Richard Garrett incident though, what else should be expect?

Check this little gem: "Tabula Rasa failed to be a commercial success despite its seven-year development period. On November 11, 2008, in an open letter on the Tabula Rasa website, Garriott announced his plans to leave NCsoft to pursue new interests sparked by his spaceflight experiences. Later, however, Garriott claimed that the letter was forged as a means of forcing him out of his position and that he had had no intention of leaving.[14] On November 24, NCsoft announced that it planned to end the live service of Tabula Rasa. The servers shut down on February 28, 2009, after a period of free play from January 10 onward for existing account holders.[15].

In July 2010, an Austin District Court awarded Garriott USD$28 million in his lawsuit against NCsoft, finding that the company did not appropriately handle his departure in 2008.[16] In October 2011, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit affirmed the judgment.[17]" (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Garriott).

City of Heroes/Villains players won't be silenced, NCSoft. Your stocks are tanking and will continue to do so.

You don't know who your player base is in CoX. Professional adults, not kiddies who will take your nonsense and switch to your soft-core porn replacement. Why would any woman (or man who understands proportions) want to play the drivel you are pumping out? Your player base includes families; none of them are going to allow kids to play something which should get an AO rating.

If you want to distribute bad cartoon porn, that's up to you, but you should have shown respect for the loyal customers of eight years and behaved more honourably. You should have communicated better; not fired the one guy who understood the community because he posted that we raised over $1000 in three HOURS to give the Dev team you fired a good farewell meal. You should not have lied about exhausting all options to sell the Intellectual property to the willing buyers that were out there.

Frankly NCSoft you demonstrate the WORST business sense of any major company I have seen. Even your reports from employees are dire.

I hope we save City of Heroes/Villains but believe me that your ongoing shoddy and fraudulent behaviour will not be forgotten. It will be affecting your business for years to come. Yours and any company you touch."

On September 7th, NCsoft's stock was at a high of 286,500.    It is now at 206,500.

  That's almost a 30% difference.    I think that's pretty noticable, don't you?
