Call to Action: Thank the media
« on: September 04, 2012, 05:28:29 AM »
So I was talking to one of our heroes and said, "Crap, there's no way I'm going to be able to keep that 'Thank the media' thread updated with all of these links." :(

... [A few seconds pass as I pondered what I had just said.]

WOOT!!!   There's no way I'm going to be able to keep that 'Thank the media' thread updated with all of these links!   8) 8) 8)

I mean, seriously, of all the problems that could be plaguing us, that's an AWESOME one to have!  So, long story short, I'm going to stop posting links to every article about our efforts here.  But fear not, because we STILL need to get the word out, we STILL need to show our undying gratitude to these media outlets that are giving us the attention we need, and the NCsoft Public Relations department is STILL going to know how much traction we've got!

Media Coverage Spreadsheet

Bookmark that site.  It's a list of media organizations large and small that have been covering us.  Everything from tech bloggers to massive media organizations, over 50 articles so far and counting.  So keep posting those comments, keep sharing this stuff on Twitter and Facebook, keep spreading the word far and wide to your friends, supergroups, coalitions, and anyone else you can and we WILL pull through this!

If you see something we've missed, post it in the replies here and we'll try our best to catch it.

That's going to be the key to our media campaign - we've got to spread the story beyond the player base, and even beyond the geekosphere in general - we've got to generate the kind of attention that will make NCSoft go from "whatever" to "oops".

This report's gone out too:

We're actually past 10k now, but it's still good to get more coverage.

Tony,

The folks at:

http://www.mmomeltingpot.com/2012/09/city-of-heroes-is-shutting-down-blogger-reactions/

They were just asking whether anyone was looking into the possibility of creating a community server in the worse case scenario.
I posted your forums page address and let them know about the great work your team has done in the past.
It's the least I could do in re-payment for being able to keep all my alts straight over the years with the help of your website.

One thing that might hurt us would be to "spam" the comments sections of these.  Someone could be our designated spokesperson, or something (Golden Girl comes to mind, or Tony might have a loyal minion at the ready) to comment a kind thanks on our behalf.
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

Has anyone drafted a press release, so those in the media would have easy access to the information?  Or any type of media kit for the Save City of Heroes effort?  Make it easier for the press to obtain information on the rescue efforts.

I also notice on Twitter, many are using  #COH or #CityOfHeroes hashtags, perhaps start trending with #SaveCOH or #SaveCityofHeroes  If you get it trending high enough on twitter, more folks will get interested.

Just wanted to add I am another loyal customer, about 5 1/2 years playing, and I support the effort. Would also donate if something is set up.  :)

Yes, it's important to have one single hashtag to give it the best chance of trending - and it should be positive, not negative, so no #NCSoftSucks type stuff.
