I must have missed the announcement, but the doors are active, and I have wracked up a bunch of salvage already.

A question though. I know Candy Canes can be bartered for things in the Ski Chalet, and there were plans for the other 3 types of salvage. Were those ever designated, or is that still under development?

Yup. It's October, and Trick or Treat time is upon us. The floating island will appear in Croatoa later in the month, just in time for the Halloween Party on the 20th. There hasn't really been an announcement, outside of random in-game chat. You didn't miss anything.

Other than the candy canes, the Halloween salvage doesn't buy you anything... yet. It probably (maybe) will in the future, so stock up on Hammy costumes. There's a limit of 99, each.

Edit: to be clear, the 99 limit doesn't apply to the candy canes, just the Halloween costume salvages. Most of my chars are up around 700 canes, each.

700 canes each! Holy cow! That's gotta be a lot of doors knocked on! Took me hours of Trick or Treat-ing just to get to 100 or so.

The vast majority of those canes came from the Christmas Event, which runs during December/January. Presents appear all over town and give you tons and tons of canes (I think you can get as many as 7 per present). There has been 2 years of this, and I've purposely stocked up to buy gifts for new people.

it used to be that Halloween Salvage yeilded an extra costume slot.
That is moot now, but they might be useful some way, one hopes.

Your NPC costumes will be stolen after the event is over.

As a kid, my cheap plastic costumes never survived the return trip home after ToTing. I figured they were so cheap they fell apart.

I was hovering in Croatoa while AFK last night and when I returned, I was stuck inside the island. :D

Perhaps a modification to the elf in the ski chalet that allows candy canes for badges, so that he will take Halloween salvage for the other Halloween badges?
