Name the 13th Anniversary badge!

I'm going to suggest 'Spirited' as my top choice. 13 is a spooky number; but what 'spirited' really means is lively or enthusiastic.

Backup suggestions:

But since that's the only time 'Spirited' has been mentioned, I'll go out on a limb and assume it's got slim-to-none chances of being a badge. So for my backup suggestions, I'll throw in with 'Auspicious', or even 'Triskadekaphilic' (liking the number 13).

Nope:

I can't throw in with the popular 'Unquenchable' because I fear it's getting too easy to add a word in-between 'un' or 'in' and 'able' and call it an anniversary badge.

Bear with me, here's why I can't throw in with my favorite badge suggestion, 'Resurgent' — not yet. Resurgence was the name of Issue 24, which was in Beta when the game closed. Click that link and see all the juicy stuff that was in it. Issue 25 was slated to be the Primal Earth-changing Battalion invasion, perhaps the longest-teased content in any MMORPG ever. Paragon Chat is a tremendous thing because it is the place to go to hang out with old friends. But many among the wider City community are still awaiting a game world as promised by the spiritual successors, where they can truly feel like heroes (and villains) again, one that captures City's legacy unlike anything in the market. Largely because of Issue 24, 'Resurgent' sounds like it represents that grand step and defiant return to form that City of heroes fans are capable of, but haven't yet realistically achieved despite all their commendable progress. If we award 'Resurgent' to ourselves now, for no other reason than liking the sound of it (again, it's my favorite), we can't award it later in celebration of all the developers who are working so hard to earn what is, in my opinion, the most obvious badge title after the closure.

Edit: I could easily foresee one of my Nopes winning though, and I'm happy to see the community happy.

I actually like Spirited!  I vote for that.  But then again, Halloween is my favorite holiday.   ;D

Thanks Surelle! I also like Spirited because it reminds me of the badge's fun, celebratory roots alongside words like Jubilant, Celebrant, Reveler, Merrymaker and so on. Paragon Chat isn't for everybody, but it still represents a hefty community milestone that probably justifies celebration and a short reprieve from defiantly-themed anniversary badges.

Well if we're going to roll like that, how about Lunatic -- You've been a fan of this game for so long that some people think you might be a little . . . influenced by the moon. :D

I will toss in one that I have always thought described our community: Spirited.  We were/are and will carry the City in our hearts. Thanks to those that are continuing to bring improvements to Paragon Chat which does have the Spirit of the City in it.

Looks like somebody beat me to 'Spirited' and I totally missed it, even though I did go through the thread before posting. Ugh, Cap's brain! Sorry about that, Kat. /e holdtorch

And hey Lyc, down that 'Lunatic' avenue of thought, I could swear I saw somebody mention 'Moonlighter' (now I don't see it). Maybe it's less on the nose? I probably like it as much as 'Spirited'. People from other games do often accuse City fans of being extreme or nuts, but I don't think they mean it in the nice way — and I don't think they're right.

Something that bothers me is, I didn't see much participation and it's makin' me has a sad face. I think the annual badge is a pretty cool thing. I'd think people would spread the word on Facebook and Twitter and stuff; then again social media is kind of a dumpster fire these days....

Maybe it's just my mood today, but I feel like I should throw these out there whether they have anything to do with the number 13 or not...

Optimistic   (Because for some reason I have the feelings good things are coming Soon™.)

Serendipitous  (I dunno.  Because happy chance is fun.)

Checking out "Ship of Heroes" on Kickstarter got me thinking about the Titan Forums (been a LONG time since I logged in here) and when I dropped by to check out where we are with bringing back "City of Heroes" with Nate's negotiating group (no progress since September 2014/Codewalker's "wake-me" post on February 17, 2015, I see) I stumbled across THIS thread.

I like a LOT of these suggestions, and will be very interested to see what happens when polling takes place.

My own suggestion for the 13th anniversary badge: Never-Ending.

Thank you.  :)

EDIT: I had to check the exact date for Codewalker's "wake-me" post.

Every time I check back on this thread, I want to suggest that Optimist instead of Optimistic sounds more like a traditional anniversary badge, but it turns out I'm wrong. I wasn't going to post (it feels like I'm taking over the thread at this point), but I noticed some interesting things.

Quote from: Leandro on March 10, 2017, 06:09:13 PMPrevious anniversary badge names: Celebrant, Reveler, Pursuer/Elusive, Merrymaker, Entertainer, Jubilant, Exultant, Lucky, Rhapsodic.

It's true, in the early days, Optimist would have been in-line (Celebrant, Reveler, Pursuer, Merrymaker, Entertainer, all nouns -- seriously, Google it!).

In the later days, however, Optimistic would have been more traditional (Jubilant, Exultant, Lucky, Rhapsodic, all adjectives).

Leandro said:

QuoteThe "rule" for anniversary badges has been that it has to be a single word, and that it should be an adjective. It was that was for the "official" 9 badges, and I'm not about to break tradition.

Which is incorrect. Funny enough, the first half of City's anniversary badges are nouns. The first community badge even returned to old-school nouns, although the rest have been adjectives.

Torchbearer (9th), Unstoppable (10th), Perseverant (11th) and Indomitable (12th)

I hope you enjoyed watching me give myself a grammar lesson.

Assuming nouns are a thing of the past, maybe I should have been more of an optimist regarding Optimistic. :P

Leandro

Electric: my first language is not English, so the grammar lesson is appreciated. I was referring to words that describe something a hero is doing or their state of mind. "Torchbearer" is not in the same category of nouns as "Chair", which is what I was getting at.
