Atlas Reactor
« on: July 05, 2016, 11:55:05 AM »
While the name of this game isn't Terra Volta Reactor - it still brought to mind CoH.

Has anyone played this game? Any similarities to CoH? I've never heard of it - and I could take the time to download it and look - but if it's "click to move", I don't care to try it.

That's what I thought of, too.  Let's take the least-liked respec arc from COH, re-make it, and call it a complete game!  1 ZONE DOWN 40+ TO GO!

I've received several emails from Trion inviting me to play this game. Near as I can tell it's a turn based shooter? I dunno, but doesn't look like something I'd enjoy much.

TRION has a cross promotion going on right now. If you log in to Atlas Reactor between 5pm pacific time Oct 5 and 11:59pm pacific time Oct 9 you can get perks for some of their other games. I know they're offering empowered gem boxes for Trove players and I think Rift gets a 15 day patron pass and a chance to win some mounts. I still don't really know anything about the game, but since I play Trove a bit from time to time I'm going to check it out.

I enjoyed the original version when it was possible to lose and before it got insanely boring.

Had the idea of 'first aid stations' been around at that point, having one inside one of the early rooms would have been a much better tweak and given teams a reason to clear a path through to the core.

Tony and I have played it.  I haven't had time since it went live, but I know Tony's played a few matches since.

I like it.  It's more like a turn based game, but everyone picks their next actions and moves at the same time and then they all execute simultaneously.  You sort of have to predict what the other team is going to do and how to respond to that in 30 seconds.

It's definitely not CoH.  Some of the CoH team is working on the game, though.  Jeff "Arbiter Hawk" Hamilton's on the project and  Eric "Ocho" Cleaver is on the community team, for example.

Here's a video of some gameplay footage:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLhhXtBkbVA. (Skip to about 4:00 for the meat and potatoes).

Looking at the gameplay video, looks like basebuilding in COH!
