List of NPC Costume Pieces and Database key

I used SQLlite to edit the database and below I typed up a quick key of the costume locations I've identified. Since upperbody and lowerbody in the region tab isn't always crystal clear. Some costume part names are not as simple as: "helmet" or "goggles"


Here's a part key for the database. Example 0 = pants so in the part column row 0 you would add pants costume information into the database. 1 for chest, etc. I have circled part number in Red



Database Geometry locations

0 = pants
1 = chest
2 = head/face
3 = gloves
4 = boots
5 = belt
6 = hats / hair
7 = ?
8 = head wings, bull horns, glasses, goggles and eyewear
9 = chest detail, emblems, chest plates, chest gear. Not to be confused with  tights chest detail
10 = shoulders
11 = backpack / wings
12 = right claws weapon
13 = neck detail, such as Diabolique's collar
14 = ?
15 = Cape top / mantle
16 = ?
17 = cape
18 = aura/path aura/glowing or burning eyes, etc
19 = shorts/skirt - not to be confused with old tight bodypainted on skirt/shorts
20 = jackets / trench coat / shirt
21 = sleeves
22 = ?
23 = ?
24 = left claws weapon
25 = ?
26 = ?
27 = tails, phoenix tail, animated tails

Changing Costume Colors in the database:

To change colors of your costume parts and FX. You will need to use Blue Green and Red format like the normal costume files use and take the 3 numbers; Multiply blue by 65536  green by 256 and add them together. White would be255,255,255 = 255*65536 + 255*256 + 255 = 16777215. Take that final number (in this case for white) and place it in the first color tab if that was your primary color. Refer to my picture above if you were wanting color one of the pants to be white. You'd place it in the same row as the pants geometry in color 1 column. As far as I know those were actual powers that turned you into an npc; maybe a brain and miracle worker like codewalker could do something like that but I haven't a clue. He might surprise us with something for Halloween in regards to those old ToT costumes.

Here all I'm doing is looking up textures and through existing costumes and finding the geometry and textures from icon. I had to do some experimenting to get some of the carnie stuff to work since those were truly locked costumes that wouldn't show up in the icon costume creator.

Personally this is what I always wanted in CoX and not just the toggles. Because quite often npcs would get that one exclusive costume piece I really wanted but never got access to. This gives you more options and more creativity.

I have some questions for you.

* Can you find out if it's possible for me to get the Fir Bolg gloves on a character?  NPC name is Pumpkin_Minion.

* Can you help me get Buzzsaw's backpack?  NPC name is Model_Doc_Buzzsaw_02.

* I found an odd little thing when I try to db edit in any of the SEER costume pieces with the pretty, blue glowing light (example here: http://paragonwiki.com/w/images//thumb/9/95/Scanner1.jpg/262px-Scanner1.jpg ): When I swap in this piece to a character with a DB Editor, and load it up, the blue light is gone on the piece, and it remains with its non-glowy colors.  What am I doing wrong that's preventing this blue glow to vanish?  Someone told me it might have something to do with 'fx' but I see no such reference in /costumesave.

* I've seen some clever hax where people are putting costume pieces that don't even belong in one place in a place.  For example, random heads where arms and chest pieces go, etc.  That seems like some clever work, and I'd love to know how to do that.

Im sorry for not getting to this sooner. Work has been difficult this week... I should be able to get to this on Sunday. Not sure about firbolg will look into it.... For recluse I know I found his cape, pistol and backpack at one point. Will get back to this on sunday.

Anyone interested in compiling a list of costume parts into something machine-readable? Perhaps a JSON file? I can probably use this in a future version of Jerrichas, where users can just pick what costume part they want from a drop-down menu.

Right now they're in a series of costume files so i could test/view them from the costume load screen.  I'll load them into a google drive folder or something tonight. 

Actually, most enemies and npc's before gr have functional geometry too.  There are some i never found and a bunch missing some pieces, but the most notable omissions are actually the big cov npcs.  I was able to reproduce statesman and positron but not recluse and scirocco, for example.

I can't remember what they were now, but back in the day i found two pigg files that list out geoms and their corresponding textures for various npcs.  That's all there is to it.

BTW, this stuff is all inside of the piggs. I wish codewalker would release his tool that decompresses piggs, it'd be way easier to figure these things out. Currently I use Piggsviewer, which is kind of an old tool for that.

You're quite welcome.  Originally I built the library for building custom characters and getting a peek at new costume sets early.  Given how much time went into it, I'm just glad to see it getting some more use.

As for going through the piggs, I've found the easiest way is to find a pigg with something you want, extract it as a text file, and then go through it with a text editor.

Thanks to pownunoobs google file and further exploration of pigg files I found some examples and the breadcrumbs I needed to find the correct geometry needed to produce the costume parts. Okay... Added what I think is all of the carnival of shadows pieces including the strongman.  I however cannot find the 1st version of Vanessa Devores mask... only the new one she was given during praetoria and her city of villains remake. I'll search again this weekend.

Thanks to "pownunoobs" we have the full lord recluse costume available but it may not work in paragonchat. The reason being is that it requires a "costumeprefix" entry normally located at the top of a costume file. Looking at the costume area in the database does not reveal a location to type this. so it will work in icon but not in paragon chat. It seems this is normally where gender is defined in a costume. So let me do some searching...

Costume files are just a hierarchical text format that COH outputs with the costume data.  As far as I know, they are no more C++ structs than INI files are.

Arcana posted a basic python costume loader you could use as a starting point, though you'll probably want to add some sanity and error checking and deal properly with things like quotes, different numbers of blanks between fields, different indentation, and keys that aren't directly supported in the database (like CostumeFilePrefix.  Sometimes it contains "male", "female", or "huge" instead of a BodyType key with 0, 1, or 4, so it'd need to be translated.  But then sometimes it contains something like that entry for Lord Recluse that Noyjitat posted.  I'm not real clear on how it is actually meant to be used, to be honest)

Those are standard pieces. The costume is probably from before they did the last rearrange. Just relocate them after the game resets them, then re-save the costume.

Yes. There has been several times when the devs added or removed or renamed stuff. When that happens, the game can't find it where it's looking and throws up.

I find this bug also happens a lot when I make a costume in Icon even though it's a legitimate costume.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

As I recall, Statesman's cape is under the shoulder section if you use Icon in Dev mode. I seem to recall Tyrant's stuff being under belts though, so you might check there too.

I used beNPC a while back and saved a Statesman costume (the manual typing in-game save that ends up in the data folder). I don't really know how to interpret things, but I've got a few items in the file that may be interesting. Chest Detail, Shoulders, Neck, and Back are all preceded by "none" in the various variable fields, which leads me to believe they are not where the cape is (compared to things like Pants and Chest which have "Statesman" type stuff in those fields).

However, there are two entries that do have stuff:

15,"Statesman","Statesman","none","Collar",-30388,-

17,"GEO_Capeharness_Statesman","none","none","Cape",-30388,-

The cape entry also has, unlike everything else, some words that follow a lot of numbers (everything else is just numbers until the next entry title):

I just remembered: I was trying to make a Zombie Statesman (succeeded reasonably well) and couldn't get the cape through the normal costume creator. But beNPC has it, so you'll likely have to use the database editing trick if you want it on your own characters.

I've been messing around trying to dig out the Knives of Artemis pieces, because how bad did I lust after those in game?   I have most of them figured out, but I'm having trouble with the neck piece (the modified reaver mask) and the glove detail with the little crossbow.  Any and all help to dig those last two pieces out would be really appreciated!  I'm also happy to post up (once I pull it back out of my database) all the pieces I have so far (the chest, scabbard, eye piece, boots, tights, top).

Now if I could just get my hands on all the Cabal pieces.  I hate the way the hat they let us have doesn't have hair.  *wink wink, nudge*  <3

I think statesman was one of those that had a costume prefix required for some of the pieces like lord recluse. I'll look around though if possible this weekend.
Decided to pop back in here and see how things were going.  I just wanted to note that, to the best of my knowledge, the only npcs built like Recluse are the ones from CoV.  Even if I haven't found all of their parts, I haven't seen evidence of this design before or after.

So it looks like that's the case.  I just updated Lord Recluse, Black Scorpion and Mako using the information from Floride as a starting point.  I've also updated Babs and Shadow Hunter and added Nemesis Monstrosity.  These are available at the link I previously provided.  I haven't gotten to update the zip yet.

The answer to both questions is editing paragonchat.db using a database editing program.
Before someone asks how... these programs are not very user friendly and it can be extremely difficult to diagnose over forums if and when mistakes were made.

Also, there are 3 costume pieces that aren't costume pieces on Recluse: his waist cape, his crab back pack, and his glow eyes. These are invalid FX that will make you invisible to others. You would need to edit them out to be seen.
I think PownUnoobs was working on translating my Recluse into a working costume file but I haven't checked.

After much trial and error, and a few educated guesses with help from the information above, I was finally able to put together a working and accurate Hand of Artemis costume.  So I'm sharing for those who might want to do the same.  (Note: The glow aura for the eyes is an invalid FX part, so it's better to fake it with an aura available in the tailor.  You can use whatever face/hair you like, though I have included the npc hair, and the npc face is the default tailor face.  I also had to use all 4 colors to get everything to come out right.):

The answer to both questions is editing paragonchat.db using a database editing program.
Before someone asks how... these programs are not very user friendly and it can be extremely difficult to diagnose over forums if and when mistakes were made.

Also, there are 3 costume pieces that aren't costume pieces on Recluse: his waist cape, his crab back pack, and his glow eyes. These are invalid FX that will make you invisible to others. You would need to edit them out to be seen.
I think PownUnoobs was working on translating my Recluse into a working costume file but I haven't checked.
It's in the drive folder I shared.  I also made some strides for Scirocco, Mako, and Black Scorpion
