Villain Gathering Spot
« on: August 06, 2014, 08:21:41 AM »
Assuming we eventually get the game back, I've been considering rolling a villain as my main. I primarily played heroes before.

Where was the villain gathering spot? Atlas was always the social hub for the heroes. But I never saw one on the villain side. (Keep in mind I hadn't played a villain since probably issue 8.)

There wasn't really one for folks to just HANG OUT, like heroes do under Atlas or (previous to Galaxy's demise) Gemini Park, but the Black Market in Cap au Diable was probably the most heavily trafficked spot, since it was so close to the ferry *and* the uni.

Come to think of it I do seem to remember standing around that black market. Though that was right after they added them in issue 8. That was seemingly forever ago.

Honestly standing under Atlas was one of my favorite past times. Granted it was seemingly less populated in the later years.

I could very well be wrong - but it seemed to me that while heroes were content to some extent to just mill around and converse under Atlas, the villains seemed to be more about the business at hand. Especially in the initial release of CoV. If I recall, influence couldn't be emailed until the next issue, so villains had to get busy with the earning of infamy to afford their stuff. I think it was pre-wentworths, but those SOs were still considered pricy back in the day. (The issues have sort of all blurred together for me, so I could have something out of order)

I don't think I ever saw more than a few villains in one spot, unless a strike force was forming.

No thats the way it was, we had a long row to hoe with the release of CoV as far as infamy(no big toons to beg inf from).

As stated by others there was no main gathering spot.  I assume you're asking because you want to be able to easily form a team.  If that's true, then you'll want to get on the server's global channel.  Use that to announce the arc, SF, trial, etc. you're looking for or are forming.

However, if you are looking for specific things like DFB, then the trainer in Mercy was the typical place for that.  For AE, I'd say Cap's AE building and/or the Black Market.  For SFs, Sharkhead near the ferry was pretty popular as there were 3 SF contacts there (Renault, Mantis, Kal).  For ToTing, then GV was the place.

There weren't many costume contests, especially after the Mercy / tutorial remake because Longbow took over the fort.

For RP, I saw a lot of folks hanging around St Martial's Giza casino.

Other than that, you had the coop zones (primarily at higher levels) like Cim, RWZ and DA.

Atlas Park was relatively centralized; it was in the middle of the map, and the City Hall was in the middle of the action.  Besides, Paragon City itself is rather concentric (arranged like a circle), with Atlas Park at the center.

Mercy Island is rather decentralized.  It is "off the grid" in the sense that it is at the far end of the Rogue Isles (with Grandville at the other end).  If you think about it, the Rogue Islands as a whole are much more linearly placed.  Probably the closest to a hub is Cap au Diable (and someone mentioned the black market at Aeon University...the docks to Port Oakes is another spot I've noticed had a lot of hangers-on).

Other "gathering spots" in the Isles included Pork Oakes (the space by the arena where the trainer is at and, also, the center of Marconeville, where the VG registration is at).

The Recluse statue in Grandville is another spot that deserves mention.  It is probably more analogous to the Portal Corp HQ than Atlas Park, however.

There were two spots popular V-side (on Freedom). Cap au Diable by the black market and in Grandville hanging around Arbiter Apolis.

I also think the low population on Red side hurt. Depending on server, some were so dead that teaming was pretty difficult. I kinda hope that if/when CoH2 comes around, they'll merge the maps, if not the factions. That way a gathering spot could be for everyone.

CoV was released along with Issue 6 (Halloween 2005). Wentworths came with Issue 9 (spring 2007). Gleemail didn't exist until Issue 17 (Spring 2010). Your sense of time is totally wrong. ;)

I remember when Heroes couldn't meet Villains except in Club Zero.
I use to have villains as friends for some reason and when 'Going Rogue' came out, I was so happy to be able to play with them.

...except one embarrassing moment when I tossed a Frisbee at a villain....whoop-sie.
