So I tend to go directly to my profile's notifications section, to see if anything's happened in the threads I'm watching. I read new stuff, and then I go to the main index. Every forum that had unread material at the start of my session still shows the unread icon to its left, even though in most cases, the only unread item was a thread I'm watching, which I have read. Clicking into the foru, seeing that there's not actually anything new, and going again to the index clears the unread icon, and the forum displays as read on the main index.
