Title: 10 Years....
Post by: Senkan on March 24, 2014, 06:55:45 PM
Can't believe it's been almost 10 years since I started playing CoH.  Ya know at this point with all the new superhero games coming out I wouldn't mind NCSoft coming out with a stand alone CoH game that would at least let us relive some of our hard fought exploits.

Yep, April 28 2014 is coming up before you know it.  (and some of us were in various Beta test stages before the official Opening Day)  I was just thinking about it myself this weekend.  I'll be raising a frosty flagon (thanks, Par Fae) full of my favorite beverage and reminiscing about all the great teams I ran with, as well as the solo runs I pulled off with my favorite Empathy Offender among other fun heroes and villains I created in the 8-1/2 years the game was active.

I spent so much time in Paragon City that I knew most of it's locations better than the neighborhood I've been living in for the last 14 years (We'll be taking care of that shortcoming when I break out my bike and start riding around the neighborhood this spring!)  Well, if NCSoft doesn't reopen the gates to the City, we'll just have to wait until one of the development groups brings one of their alternate locations online for us to patrol in!

yeah, what  a shitty birthday present. "Happy Birthday @FugLi! you could be playing City of Heroes right now if we weren't greedy bastards!"

I remember when I started I kept checking the map every 10 seconds to find stores, trams, etc. After a while it was like my real city - I could go around and knew where everything was - even shortcuts to get around.

More then any other game Paragon seemed like a real place to me.

Just wonder why they had all those bus stops and no buses................

Dang it! There should have been a story arc about that "Why don't the buses in Paragon City run but the Trams function perfectly?"

Ah,those bus stops...When not watching, I'd run into and get stuck in them for a moment. Always wondered why you could run inside those things. What wonderful detail. Damn, I miss this game.

After seeing what Gamigo did with Reakktor's Black Prophecy (killing it off and then making an unrelated EVE Online clone called Black Prophecy Tactics) I don't think I'd want to see that.

Besides, knowing NCSoft the standalone game wouldn't last for very long.

Buusssss Ssstoooopssss!!! Ah I still remember the satisfying sound of shattered glass as it rained down onto the concrete and asphalt.........

So. I guess that the sole purpose of the bus stops was to distract us Redsiders from the banks.

Damn. I fell for it every time.

I used to love how you could zip around the city at super speed yet get stopped cold by a bus stop or mailbox or something.

I loved being able to jump inside an empty dumpster or box.....way back, I used to get around Perez by running across the tree tops. *sigh*

I really miss arresting villainous types with the forceful use of a katana....
It would be awesome to visit all the thugs that I sent to the Zig.

LOL!! those poor patrons of Atlas, waiting on a bus that never would come...

I have a quote saved in my patented document of "Awesome things other people have said" from Muirmir on the official forums, taken from someone's signature, that is pretty much my feelings on the matter:

"Sometime after you've brought your "friends" back to this plane of existence by infusing them with the soul of a bus stop... in a city that has no buses... you become hardened to the whole thing."

But none the less, the city did indeed feel alive despite that one glaring curiosity. Pedestrians wandered around chatting, bits of litter blew around, there were payphones scattered about the area at reasonable intervals, and there were dead-end alleyways that were there for no reason at all aside from poor structural planning by a city council, haha. And that's just Atlas Park that I'm thinking about! I miss it dearly, but I have faith in S.C.O.R.E., and I know that eventually we'll have our own community-run city to return to. I keep the faith, even if the wait is excruciating. I played for the whole run myself, and something that was a part of my life for so long... well I could never truly let it go.
