Title: What would it take....
Post by: NightWolf on February 25, 2014, 10:40:13 AM
Lately I have been thinking about Coh alot again. I've been playing the music files over and over again, looking around alot on the internet to read about Coh related things, keeping track of this forum and the Coh related Facebook groups. And just like many of the other fans I keep on wondering if the game will ever come back.

I also keep on wondering what it would take it get Coh back. NCsoft refused to sell the game and it's right for reasons I still don't buy. So now we have to assume that all Coh related data is locked away somewhere, stored and "forgotten".

What could NCsoft possibly have in mind for the future of the game? Just leave if it be for years? I think it's just no fair that they refuse so hard to allow the people who love the game and have given alot to it to keep on playing it. We live in a world where (sadly) money can open alot of doors and change alot of minds. Do you think it would take a certain amount of money to eventually obtain the rights of the game? (like more they have been offered during negotiations with interested parties back then)

If all the decisions they have been made since the moment they decided to close down City of Heroes have been for business reasons and it's all just business to them, then isn't business something to should be able to get the game back?

So what do you think it would take?

This was discussed a lot during the CoH's final days, and a number of articles on how NCSoft has treated the IPs of other MMOs it killed were passed around.

From recalling what I read back then, I think the most likely scenario is that City of Heroes will never again see the light of day as a commercial product. It's ultimately NCSoft's decision whether or not they want to sell off an IP: all the interested investors in the world won't make a difference if NCSoft refuses to play ball. Their worry, I think, is that an investor who gets the IP will turn it into a major success story (see: Ray Kroc and McDonald's).

For NCSoft, refusing to let City of Heroes live on is a method of preventing the rise of potential market rivals. The same could be said of many other MMOs in their graveyard.

Again, this is just the most likely scenario as I see it. There are rumors that NCSoft is going to do something with some of its dead IPs: word on the grape vine is that Exteel 2 is in development, but there has been nothing to substantiate that particular rumor.

Probably play a very cruel April Fools joke on us knowing them. :(

But if they did surprise us with bring us CoH back or CoH 2, I'd be floored for weeks straight, I might even miss the relaunch because I'd still be in shock.
