Title: Why I Still Edit Paragon Wiki
Post by: Felderburg on January 16, 2014, 10:28:02 PM
I was just thinking about this the other day... why do I still edit the wiki? I made that choice back when the game shut down, and the reasons are still pretty much the same:

1. I said I would do a revamp of the comic book pages (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4203), and while I made a good start, that's not done. Even if I didn't edit anything else, I'd still have to do that, by golly! (And I will. I swear. No really, it'll happen. For sure.)

2. Now that the game is "over," the wiki should theoretically be able to be Completed. I think it'd be really cool if it was - the entire wiki, every page, without errors or red links. Well, not just cool -  it would make some vaguely OCD parts of me quite happy. At the very least, I can do everything possible to get it in such a state that all that has to be done is add missing bits of minor dialogue, and then someone with those records can add that in.

3. I've always liked editing wikis (or at least been annoyed enough by typos to edit - have you seen some of the wikis out there?). I don't do as much editing on other wikis, but making sure they're correct and read well / properly is something I do if I notice errors. That may be partly because I was an editor on my high school paper, but it's also my own slight neurosis I suppose.

4. I enjoy it. It does feel sort of futile at times, but that's not really the point. There are people that still use it (apparently) and if it's fun for me, why not? Sometimes it's like a puzzle - figuring out why something has gone wrong, or what content should go on a red-linked page. One of the other things I like is reading about content I didn't experience. My play time dropped off after Going Rogue, so I barely experienced any Praetorian content, and almost no Incarnate stuff. I always used the wiki to read about arcs I might have missed or alternate dialogs for genders / origins / whatever, but now it's the only way for me to experience some stuff. Which is unfortunate, but it's actually enjoyable for me. I may not be experiencing the missions as they're meant to be played, but at least I get to see some of what I missed.

I haven't made any major edits in quite some time due to the fact that I've just plain been busy.  I do still check in on the recent edits now and again, though.

Seriously, the effort you, Blondeshell, Sekoia, and Agge are still putting in (along with anyone else who is making edits but doesn't flood the change log quite as much ;)) are quite impressive given the year that's passed since the game closed.

I think it's worth noting that I also have way too much fun with the edit summaries sometimes.

Bit of Necro, but I stumbled upon this, and just had to say that, yes, you do have too much fun with the edit summaries.  :)
