Title: Evil Dead 2013
Post by: Kaos Arcanna on April 06, 2013, 08:59:35 PM

So a friend from work wanted to see this and asked me if I wanted to go too. If he hadn't asked, I probably would have passed, but the matinee here is only $4.00 so I figured why not?  ;D

All in all, they played it straight and the actors were good, but they did some pretty dumb things OVER and OVER again which kind of lessened my enjoyment of it.

I give it about a 6 out of 10.

Cabin in the Woods have ruined traditional horror movie of a group being killed off one by one, for years to come.  I simply can't look at that kind of movie without thinking back to CitW.

Sadly this leaves me with jiggle cam (or not so with Paranormal Activity) or something creepy from del Toro.

I was just reading somewhere in the past few days that this was being labelled the scariest movie ever. I'm guessing that's a ridiculous overrating?

Yeah, I'd say "scariest movie ever" is a huge overstatement.

Horror movies are like hot wings.  I don't care if you say it's hot Mr. Restauranteur, most likely you've never ever had original Buffalo hot wings.  Ever.  The best I've had since college in NY state in the 80s could only be described as "tangy".  Sure most newbs would think their hot but if you've never wanted to swallow your lips in hopes it'll stop the pain, they're not hot.

I've become jaded at what passes as horror movies today as well.  I grew up during the horror boom of the late 70s and early 80s.  Jason, Freddy, Meyers and even Chucky.  Now it's either torture porn, blood hose or "let's see what creative way the writer came up with to kill this one" (Final Destination).  At least the original Evil Dead embraced what came before and gave the audience a sly wink, more so in ED2.

Sadly I can say the same thing about roller coaster too nowadays.  I'm the guy in the front car looking bored in the photo.

When the media say scariest movie ever it means it couldn't scare a nervous rabbit.

After lots of searching, I finally met my match with hot wings. They were soaked in habanero. Found out later that nobody had EVER been able to finish them, and they were typically ordered simply as a macho guy "I dare you" type of thing.

Horror films don't get much a fair chance anymore now though. Most companies don't even have the guts to make a rated-R film because it limits the audience who has access to it.

I'm not surprised torture porn came about though. I never found death particularly scary. Being kept alive though... that was scary.

I enjoyed the movie. The lack of CGI was a huuuuuuuuuge plus for me, though.

Still trying to make time to see this movie. Heard some pretty good reviews heard some "meh" ones. But not too many outright said they didn't like it.
Talking about in person face to face.
