Well, NCSoft has announced that they'll be at PAX 2013 to showcase their upcoming games. (They also mentioned that they publish CoH in the press release for that, which I assume is a slip up on their part.)
If I had the cash or transportation to get to PAX, I think I'd don a Statesman or Apex costume, get an unlit torch, and just chill in front of their booth.
-
Sounds like a plan. If you don't got a costume put on a AP33 Shirt! Or sign if you don't even have that!
Now I wish I could get to Pax.
-
That would be amazing. I can't get time off work for something like that. I wonder if we have any friendly convention goers who might be willing to do just that.

Too bad it can't be a lit torch, that we can stick up...um...somewhere. ;D

Oh do they, now? I kinda want to point that part out to every single person who reads that press release. And then casually say something like, "That's how much they care about North American gamers. They can't even be bothered to update last year's press release to remove mention of a game they've shut down. And people keep giving them money because... why again?"
-
I might be interested in doing this for a little while for PAX Prime (PAX East is right out). I go to PAX Prime every year. I'd have to get an AP33 shirt, which I used to have links to the various places selling them but can't find them anymore.

Mad scientist-voice: GENIUS!!!!
What a bunch of fools this outfit is, I bet someone has to tie their shoes for them in the morning.

Halloween props. Cellophane blown by a fan, illuminated from beneath. Makes a pretty good-looking fauxflame.

Or that, or that..... I am good with this outcome too.....

Well, it can't be an actual lit torch, but you could use one of these (http://www.caufields.com/olympicflametorch.aspx) as a prop.

And there's just the kind of thing I was talking about. :D

IF I can get a ticket this year I'm down for this for at least a couple hours.

The proper way would be to act like a flash mob with masks and faux torches. Try to appear like any gamer there carrying a bag a swag into the presentation and sit all over. At at some point after they lowered the lights for their presentation each member will don a mask and/or cape, stand, light and hold up the faux torch. First one person, then five seconds later another from a different part of the hall, five seconds two more from other parts of the room, etc. It shouldn't take more than 30 seconds from first person to the entire mob.
No shouting at them, just quietly holding up your torch. Assuming you will be asked to stop or leave then leave but quietly, still proudly holding up your torch.
-
The other ho ho ho man has a wonderful idea. :)
-
Operation: Pax!
Now I so wish I could be there.
-
If we knew someone in the Boston area...we could all pitch in a couple bucks and have an AP 33 banner made and have it hung over there display.
-
I posted this idea to a few Facebook CoH pages. The more torches the better!
-
As soon as these things start happening in Chicago or St. Louis, I am so less useless for this! :)

An excellent idea! Nothing vicious or disruptive that NCsoft can dismiss or laugh at and get everyone else to laugh at. Just a simple, straightforward, understated act.

Af, you got a link for this?

I live in Seattle. I can get behind this.
Hell, I may even show up with a videocamera.

I won't be able to go, but I'm planning a slew of stuff for that weekend for my YouTube channel. And I will need some former players that would like to be on-mic to talk about a fond look back at our beloved game and it's hopeful future.

WildStar is going to have a gigantic presence at PAX East (the whole NCsoft booth) since NCsoft is pushing for release later this year. There will also be two panels for NCsoft games - one for WS itself, and the other for 'what sets WS/GW2 apart from other MMOs'.

PAX Prime is still too far away for any news.

I can arrange for myself and hubby Bloodspeaker to be available - could probably con a few other COH friends into availability as well.

I don't know if FlyingCodeMonkey and I will make it to PAXPrime this year or not... We seem to have made it to every second one so far, and this is an "off" year, so Fate may not be with us if the usual pattern holds. ;D
-
Sounds great 'ko, I'll be in touch PDQ.
-
RE: mob. I would be there to do that. I can't. But I would. I would *love* to be asked quietly to leave...
And then I'd whisper... 'no.' And then whisper... 'but if you can carry me out, still upright, go for it. Otherwise, it's YOUR scene now... think about it first.'
And then they'd get two big burly guys to pick me up by the armpits, and take me on out.
I won. That'd be enough.
-
I really...really...wish I could make it out there. I'd be all over this.
-
Oh man! Would LOVE to be there! Jealous and proud of the guys that can be. The mob would be beautiful to see!
Good luck, guys!
;D

Who ever goes...
MUST TAKE PHOTOS!
oh and post them.
-
I'll be there on Saturday only. If something "happens" and I am nearby, I'll post pics.

Hey, Ko ... this is Pax East, as in Boston, MA, versus Pax Prime. Just wanted to make sure, bc I know you're west coast o.o
But heck, if you're going, I'll see if I can steal away from the bf. It's only a couple hour drive from where I live.
-
PAX 2013 is well within my area of travel. (I can literally drive there from my home in under an hour.)
Is there anyone on this board that absolutely knows for a fact that they will be attending this event?
Reason being is that it'll influence whether or not I actually go. This would be the first con I've ever attended, and if I'm gonna say something to the NCSoft folks, I'd like to be there with backup.
-
This might be doable.
I am not planning on setting them on fire

You can still buy tickets for PAX? I thought they sell out pretty quickly nowadays.

Ah. If this happens at PAX East, someone film it, or at least take pictures.
In case I do make my documentary. :)

Uh, yeah, they sold out in a few days. This is obviously for people who already have tickets. lol
-
Pax Prime has not yet gone on sale for 2013. So it's a matter of planning to get tickets, without being sure if you will or not yet.

You've been doing a lot of faceplaming lately.
Do you have an imprint of your hand on your face yet? :P

Even with out tickets there still the idea of just standing outside the building with torches. Pitchforks optional.
-
Is NCSoft going to be at PAX East? If so, they're already long-since sold out of tickets, but boo hoo because I'm local to the area and could have and would have gone! But maybe it's just the west-coast PAX they're going to anyway....
SOE is having a meet-and-greet on March 22nd at an adjacent hotel to PAX East, though, and I'm going to that. I'm a longtime Everquest 2 player and so is my daughter, and she's doing 3D modeling for their Player Studio cash shop, so we figured we'd pop in and say "Hi!"
-
Yeah NCsoft going to be at PAX East with two booths. One for Wildstar another for the Company itself. Hmm odd seems they doing a major PR push for some reason... *Whistles*

Ah yeah your right I just skimmed it.
-
i would also support the torch and masks idea, i wont be able to attend due to limitations on money and since they are sold out already
-
Though we can't be there your comrades from across the pond support this action! Post the video!!

Smart money sez that will be the last advertising revenue Wildstar ever sees! Then a year from now it'll be "Game isnt doing as well as we'd like, shutdown in 3 months. We love y'all and FLY FREE!"
*disgust*

No, they'll get more advertising. But come back two months after release or a month after Christmas and try to find some actual paid advertising. It'll simply devolve back to PRs to MMO blogs/news sites.
Look right now, GoW3 is heavily advertised on TV, hey it's Sony it's not like they don't have an advertising budget, plus they are dovetailing it into PS3 ads, but two months after the game comes out, you aren't going to see the TV or print ads anymore. It'll be onto the next AAA exclusive title. Other than WoW and their mountain of money, MMO game populations are simply too small to get an annual ad budget. When was the last time you saw SWtOR or DCUO advertised? Conan? LotRO? DDO? Aion? Yes they are persistent services and you would think warrant ads throughout the year but advertising a game year round simply isn't SOP. The general rule is you advertise when it's new and the first Christmas, maybe the second if the game came out for Christmas. And any paid expansion of course. But then it's onto hyping the next thing, not the existing one.
Also they realize that MMO players can't really play too many of them at once. So the idea is to hook em and keep em than trying to pull players from other games, especially if those other games are yours as well. Not a win/win there.
So run up the hype. Get them to sign up in the first year and hope you keep them long enough to milk some more money from them.
-
I would be interested to see how it turns out. Perhaps one person could stay out of costume and mingle with the NCSoft employees and get a reading on how the company feels about all of this. Might provide some clues on how to motivate them to shall we say..."do the right thing"
-
If anybody's going to PAX East, could I get them to stop by the Stone Blade Entertainment booth and pick me up some Ascension promo cards and any other swag? I will cover shipping costs. I am totally grabby-hands on this game, guys, it's no joke. They're right between WotC and Sony.
