Starting to come to the realization that until plan Z is finished, I'm in limbo. Tried CO and no matter how much I want to like it I just can't. I've looked into other MMO's, read reviews, and it seems like they are all the same. Spend real money after buying a subscription and the game, or get next to nothing with the FTP. CoH was my first MMO so maybe my expectations are set way high, but playing anything else seems like going back and playing pong on an Atari. While fun for about 10 seconds, it wears out quick. I don't want to try a fantasy MMO, and there seems to be a severe lack of quality hero MMO's out there. As much as I miss CoH and the community, I may not see you until it's "Z" right time. (Shameless crappy joke noted.) If I've upset you with my opinion, sorry but that's how I feel. If you do have a viable substitute to help tide me over, please let me know. Til then, I'm gonna go back and eat a pint of Ben and Jerry's In limbo land. Peace.

Nope, not upset here. Exact same boat, but I'm eating fruit bars of Lime and Strawberry, m'self. Lil' more healthier, less calories. :)

yeah, there isnt many choices out there to replace COX directly. The COX was a unique game in many ways and while that is big plus when the game is running, it's a down when it's gone because then there is nothing like it. There may be some that I just don't know about but I do not know of any. In the mean time, sounds like Ben and Jerry right now is your best bet. Hopefully not for too much longer.

CO is the closest thing I've found. There are probably better games, but none that scratch the CoH itch. (Not that CO really scratches it, either, but... nothing else is even trying)
I just wish CoH was back.

It is NEVER too cold for ice cream! Well, assuming it's halfway-good ice cream, anyway. This is a lesson I learned from my now ex-fiancee when her car broke down in a bad neighborhood and she called me to come pick her up. I did so, and her first words to me were not, "Thank you!" or anything remotely like that. Instead, "TAKE ME TO DAIRY QUEEN NOW!" Did I mention this was during an ice storm? My old ford escort stationwagon was put to the test, let me tell ya. Apparently she'd gotten word that the freezer case at DQ had broken down and they were selling the ice cream cakes & such at half off. She bought around $100 worth of sale-priced goodies after which we drove back to her place with the windows down in the middle of this freezing cold weather just to make sure nothing was ruined.
There are days when I miss that woman, and days that I do not. Remembering this particular tale, this day is one of the latter variety.

Yeah I'm In CO only because it's close... but not there. Played with graphics a bit to make it okay. Got Rotten Luck running again and my CO global is @RottenLuck13.
I'm also in Star Trek Online. Might want to try that it's nothing like CoH, but that's the point it's a distraction that doesn't remind you of what's missing. Same handle given they are both Cryptic.
Plus side is some of our Devs are now working in Cryptic so hopefully the magic would spark.

The sad part is, if they took some of CO's ideas, combined them with CoH's game play, graphics and basic mechanics we'd have a pretty good game. In my opinion, CoH was easy to pick up and play, but offered different levels of complexity in character building depending on how involved you wanted to get. CO on the other hand dumps you in with a "you figure it out" feeling. I have yet to figure it out.

My brother Jim Justice has looked for a replacement, as have I, and he's been on since inception. I wish the company no fare for a free ride with their decision. I do wish the right person to find the vision to resurrect this venue and take it forward.
I will go down with this ship...

I am in the same boat. tried several games - all that did was highlight what was so good about City of Heroes. I am looking forward to the two projectss coming to fruition,

There is a sticky for new CO players that has a lot of useful stuff that I just haven't had the time to wade through. Then again, with my crap connection (only able to connect to CO 1 out of every 4 tries) it hasn't been a priority. Try the sticky and see if it helps.

What enjoy about 'The Secret World' is the cut scenes. The game play is okay but after about a half hour of playing, I'm done for the night.

Definitely this. The general feeling on the CO forums - something I agree with 100% - is that CO has so much potential, but Cryptic and/or Perfect World just don't want to put in the time to bring that potential to fruition, instead focusing all their attention on Star Trek and Neverwinter.
It's what CoH would have been like if the devs had abandoned it ten or fifteen issues back.

In terms of doing superhero stuff, CO is closer to CoX than DCU. DCU is crippled by the need to accomodate PS3 players. In terms of graphics and lore, DCU wins over CO and I would be more likely to roll an alt in DCU for the stories despite the crippled game play. DCU also has what seems to be similar to a TF in the form of Alerts. CO's Alerts are way too short to interact with other people.
I like teams and in terms of teaming, I found that I've done a lot of teaming in SWTOR in daily Heroics than in CO or DCU. Each Heroic has multiple objectives and can last between 20-45 mins. People are also helpful and will assist. For example, I tried doing a 4-player Heroic with only 2 players and we couldn't defeat the boss. I asked in broadcast for help and got a quick response. Some travel time later, the boss was defeated.
SWTOR is nowhere near as polished as CoX, but it manages to fill my teaming itch.

Currently my 'replacement' for CoH seems to be Marvel: Avengers Alliance on Facebook. :o
