For someone my age, Gerry Anderson's series were the highlight of my childhood days.  Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlett, UFO, Space 1999, I got a model of the Stingray from my Grandfather when he was visiting Japan.  I still have a die-cast model of Thunderbird 2 with Thunderbird 4 in it's payload pod.

I remember being out to lunch with friends from work one day at the local (late) Ground Round.  They had a projection screen that ran a eclectic selection of videos from early CGI pieces to clips of Thunderbirds.  I quipped once when they were runningt a Thunderbirds clip that it was the future as I remembered it.

I can't talk about popular British Science Fiction without tipping my hat to Gerry Anderson.  To me his body of work was as important as Doctor Who, Blake 7 or Quatermass.  And I am sad at his passing.  :'(

We are huge Gerry Anderson fans, and this made us unspeakably sad.

I can only remember seeing UFO at a very early age.  Other than that, I don't think I've seen anything else he was involved with.  Does UFO hold up?  Is any of his stuff on NetFlix?  I'll have to check and try to talk my GF into watching some...

If you can get past the "mod" feel that the hip late 60s had on ideas of what the future would be like in terms of clothing and commercial design.  UFO was suppose to take place in the future year of "1980".  Story wise it was very much 1970 British scifi style.  Space 1999 was only a few years older production wise and the flavor was similar.

It might have been available on Netflix once, maybe only as an in mail series but I'm not sure anymore.

Heh... UFO was my first exposure to an alien autopsy. And contact lenses.

All I got to see of it as a kid was a couple VHS rentals in the 80's, but I thought it was frigging awesome.

My first exposure to Gerry Anderson's work came a little late.

Space 1999

The Eagle is STILL the most realistic looking "near-future" sci-fi spaceship design to my eyes. Nothing has ever surpassed it.
