Title: What is your favorite memory from CoX?
Post by: A Cyclops named Steve on December 19, 2012, 10:41:47 AM
I have several but the two that really stick in my head are firstly when we were doing Crimson's arc and me and my team of 5 defeat the Kronos titan. Which was really more symbolic for my character concept. (Steropes was one of the 3 original titan cyclops that forged Kronos' scythe, Zeus' master bolt, Poseidon's Trident and Hades' Helm) The second is when I finally unlocked my lore slots and I got my pets. I don't know why but the whole time I played(which unfortunately was only about 6 months) I really wanted pets but being a brute I didn't have any.

Actually, there are two of them:

1) The first time logging into CoV way back when it came out in Europe. I can't exactly point a finger on that particular memory, but it still gives me a warm feeling and becoming part of something special.

2) That was a TF blueside on Union. I can't remember which one, though. We started out as a full team, me on Helvetic Knight and my friend Pistol (if you're here, write me a PM!!!) and some others, most notably a Tank from Spain. We started off well, but as the TF went along, more and more people dropped until we were only three to start the final map. Pistol, the Tank and me. Halfway through that mission the tank dropped, too.
Well, Pistol and me pressed onwards to the final room (a cave with a freaking huge thing in it - I really can't remember the TF)... Well, the two of has didn't have much a chance, but we tried nontheless and after about twenty minutes and several wipes (and good fun) the tank logged back in, excused himself in broken English for a crappy ISP and joined the party. I don't know how much it took, but we finally clobbered the final boss down and won the day  ;D
Good times!

Sounds like Numina with Jurassik in the final room.

Well there are many of them and kind of hard to pick one or just a few. Here are a couple that first pop to mine upon seeing the question so it's probably the most memorable favorite few all equal favorites.

1) Villains finally getting the levels of 41-50 made available to them and the content to go with it. Think around i7 time period.

2) Willpower set going live. One of my favorite power sets.

3) The original Hollows and taking down Frostfire and hoardes of trolls and outcast in missions and streets then topping it off with the CoT trial to beat up a bunch of ign. rock people and the fire circle of thorn demons. Good stuff. This one is a very fuzzy but great memory as I havent done that trial since i7.

Oh, so many to choose from, but two always stick in my mind.

1. Back around the time I started playing I had put together a cold/cold Dom named Cold Maiden. She was lv 10 at the time and I had joined up with a team for some basic newspaper missions. Things were going along pretty well until we hit the last big room and then it all started going wrong. We started that room with a functioning team of 5 players and, within a few moments, we had a functioning team of one. Me. Everyone in the team was shouting 'run' but I got stubborn. I stood my ground and, one by one, shut down and took out the entire room while my team watched from face down in the sewer water. Once the last enemy went down I turned slowly as if to look at my team and said "clear."  It was the first time in the game I felt really powerful and it started my long fascination with control types.

2. Many years later, as part of a Player run event, we were holding an auction where players could bid on donated lv 50 characters that would team with them for 3 hours for whatever missions they wanted to run. I stood quietly on the sidelines while bids went out for people I had teamed with but, once a particular friend came up for auction, it was time to make my move. The bidding started slow and didn't seem to get very far above the 100k range. That is when I walked up and announced "100 Million." There was a virtual silence of about 5 seconds before somebody replied "... Jesus, Cass." I giggled for hours. I was finally rich enough to throw money around at will. It's highly unlikely I'll ever be able to do that in real life so it was almost a wish granted.

I have a bunch, but some things stand out to me.

Walking into the Hollows the first time, back before aggro caps and before they put police drones in. There were dozens of lowbie heroes like myself just standing in awe at the massive fight going on just outside the gates.

Someone was herding the Trolls (not unicorns, the green kind of men with broken English and a bad drug habit) past the entrance in a big long train, and letting the lowbies hit them to our hearts content. A higher level emp def was spamming her healing aura, keeping us all alive. It was absolutely magical.

All the great Hami raids on Protector, before they "improved" Hami and prevented us from just spamming chat with bad fish puns and hilarity. We still did raids, but it wasn't quite the same.

Seeing the Chantry for the first time, and the Storm Palace. Wow.

Seeing Ultra Mode for the first time, equally wow - when the zones began to be upgraded. Making my Praetorians primarily to see how pretty the zones were :D

Having to call in a GM to assist me in a map that had a glitched glowie. It was on a tech lab map, the kind with that one room with the cores in the middle of it and sometimes a couple small rooms to the sides. Well it turned out one of the glowies had lodged itself behind one of those extra room walls, and I could hear it, focus on it, but I couldn't actually SEE it.

Called on a GM and when they discovered the issue, they used their GIGANTIC HAND OF GOD to move the glowie into the room with me. It was hilarious, I'd never seen anything like that happening live. Finished the mission and was quite happy.

My favorite memory in CoX is oddly tied to my most frustrating moment in the game.

I had only just created my own account (after playing for a couple of weeks on a friend's account to give the game a test drive) when the first Halloween event started.  I had a fantastic time trick-or-treating on teams in the Hollows and getting the badges for it.  (And that was even with having to run back from the Atlas hospital every time a purple werewolf popped up and cleaned our clocks.)

But, for the life of me, I could not find an Eochai to get that badge.

Toward the end of the event, the Eochai spawns started to increase in frequency (or it seemed that way, at least), but most of the hard-core badge hunters had already been there and done that, so they weren't putting teams together to take them down very often.

It wasn't until after midnight on the last night of the event that I finally saw an Eochai.  I stepped out of the security gate from the Hollows into Atlas Park just as three of them went marching past, right down the street.  All I could do was watch those magnificent, stories high, flaming monsters pass by me.  (Keep in mind, this was prior to the change in Giant Monsters that made them level-less and prior to the change that prevented players from being one-shotted. They would have ganked me hard.)  I couldn't find enough people to take one of them down for the badge, so I figured I'd just wait for the next Halloween event and get it the next year.

But there was no Halloween event in 2005.

That missing badge irritated the hell out of me so badly that I swore I'd never let another badge pass me by like that.

By the time 2006 rolled around and the Halloween event returned, I was already obsessed with badge hunting.

I just wish I'd thought to take a screenshot of those three Eochai walking down the street together.

My favorite memory of city of heroes, making my first hero 8 and a half years ago, I made a Assault Rifle / Fire manipulation Blaster named Neo Conzell,
I remember the day Badges went live, I got all debt badges available at the time when I logged in, it made me laugh so hard as well as sigh, took me almost 4 years to get him ranged def capped, at least I made him into DPS machine before the end.

another best moment would be soloing Chimera with my Crab Spider 4x8 at the end of the Bella arc, he went incarnate and was 54+3 AV and he took me down first, but Round 2 went my way, the fight lasted for 10 mins.

I pulled out: shivan - Moa Bones- green Nuke - Snowman - Rikit Drone - PPD reinforcements - Back Up Radio - all of the crab spider pets - Warworks Lore tier 4 - Positron Echo - poped Barrier, Call of Justice and rushed him with guns blazing, the last 5 mins of me fighting him alone just barely surviving every other hit doing almost 60% of my health in damage, end result Chimera fell, my inspiration bars empty with only 300 hit points left.

There really are so many, yeah. If I had to pick just one, I'd say it was getting to the point where I could help out new players. I knew enough that I could answer questions and show them around, and I had gathered enough inf that I could hand some over to make their "rookie days" go smoother. It was only a million each... I'd have gladly given more, but I didn't want to take the fun out of it. I just wanted to let them keep their enhancements topped up while they learned the ropes, and give them some wiggle room to make the inevitable beginner mistakes :)

I had what I called "New Player Welcome Kits": a million inf, a set of Halloween salvage, an escort to Crotoa to turn it in, and an escort to a tailor so they could play with their new second costume slot. Pre-Freedom I even kept stacks of hand grenades and tech wings on hand so I could show them how crafting worked if they wanted to try it. After Freedom the trading restrictions with brand new players made things a little stickier of course, but you could still make it work.

Even just chatting through text, you could see their eyes lighting up the first time they saw a Streng, their huge grin when you asked if they wanted a free second costume slot. Hear it click with them when you told them the first enhancement they ought to slot in an attack is accuracy, since nothing else matters if the attack doesn't land. Yeah, that was absolutely one of my favorite things to do... show new players around, and see the city for the first time again through their eyes.

If nobody minds though, I'll probably make other posts as I realize other ones :D

Having the chance to do something genuinely michievous and villainous, each Christmas during the Winter Event in Pocket D.

I'm talking about the technique of dropping a Ouroboros portal on to the fireplace in the Ski Chalet, while making random comments in local about how I was surprised that the fireplace was clickable and had handed me a random IO (or watever, anything roughly valuable in the given year). The first year I did this, I ended up falling around on the floor laughing and soon lost count of the number of players who fell for the beautifully simple trick. Wiser (i.e veteran) minds saw right through it of course, but each year well over 100 players who didn't think before clicking fell for my dastardly scheme.

By 2009, people who were wise to the act weren't around so much and quite a few rusty old timers and brand new faces had appeared on Champion. What made one particular day that year so funny was that I was teaming with Demoniker of the Blackguards, who was too clever to fall for the trick himself but had an interest in teaming with me and as many others as possible to complete event missions for badges and other rewards.

So, the result was a hilarious tug of war, where he'd recruit people to join us as fast as he could, then desperately try to talk them out of falling for my prank and taking the teleport-bait, since it dropped them from the team. Meanwhile, I'd casually mention at regular intervals that I was "shocked how the Devs had made the fire clickable this year" and that it handed out pretty neat, but not improbably awesome, rewards. We were like the angel-and-devil shoulder advisors to recruited team members, where Demoniker would say "don't be tempted...resist...resist the urge...do not click" while I was spamming "wow...someone just said they got an orange arcane salvage from the fireplace, I'm gonna try it again to see if there's a time limit on re-clicking!".

At one very special moment, I waited in the Chalet for a few minutes while Demoniker recruited a full six new team members. I then gave my usual comment, upon which ALL SIX players clicked the fireplace simultaneously, leaving only me and Demmy standing.

The "DAMMIT!" reaction that followed, was absolutely perfect.

Looking back, most of my fondest memories involve Demoniker and the Blackguards, especially during the early years of CoV. Running 2-3 LRSFs back to back after the launch of Inventions, taking advantage of the fleeting bug that awarded everyone TWO rare recipes upon completion, where Demoniker would play Hendrix on vent while we tore through the Freedom Phalanx (or, they tore through us!) was so much fun. At each cutscene in the LRSF, someone in the Blackguards would speak the lines out loud on vent, adding much hilarity to those moments. After those runs, I could never read "take that you varmints!" without hearing their voices :)

I got to say my favorite memory was the first couple of days, back in I3 or I4 maybe?  Before Villains which was I6, yeah?

It was all so shiny and awesome.  I was in awe this existed.  I could fight bad guys.  I could team.  I could play with my friends.  Or I could solo.  I could be a helper, or a main force... anything I wanted.

Anything, human formed that is, but anything.  A healer, a boxer, a swordsman, an alien mind controller...

It was just so much fun.

That is my favorite memory.  The newness of it all back when.  I remember it as if it were yesterday... *sighs*

Ooh... yeah I did think of another one: the most thrilling fight I remember in the game!

The enemy itself was far from monumental, just a regular old sniper. It was the circumstances that did it for me. I was on my level 43 Energy/Energy blaster street sweeping around Peregrine, when suddenly the sky goes dark... great, banners. It was the middle of the day so there wouldn't be an event team even if I wanted to join one. I start looking for a nice safe spot to log out, when a bullet whizzes past my face. Someone's taking potshots at me! Excellent, I think, one last fight before switching. So I spin around a couple times and spot him: a Crey sniper, standing beside a billboard. You're goin' DOWN, buddy! Just wait till I get th - ohhhh snap. He's level 50.

I sigh and back away. My mouse is hovering over the logout button... but I just can't do it. I've got a full inspiration tray, and no-one else to use them on. I can take this guy. It's worth a shot at least. I mean, pass or fail, standing up to a +7 is a decent story to tell, right? Quick! Do it now before you talk yourself out of it! *toggle on Rambo mode*

Purples, yellows, reds... couple more reds... build up, aim, queue up Power Burst and zerg rush him till it fires off. Follow up with Power Blast, close in and throw Bone Smasher and Energy Punch in his face. Keep chaining every quick attack you've got, fire whatever's up next, just keep that damage bonus running. He's knocked down! Take the extra couple seconds to give him a nice birthday snipe, he'll really appreciate it. Blam blam! Miss! Blam! Another miss! Oh no the insps are worn off! HAVE A NOVA, JERK!!! Where'd that endurance insp go... okay, never mind, where'd that Return to Battle go. Haha! It was just a flesh wound! Omnomnom, blue candies. More attack chaining... attack chaining... attack thud. Kay, no big deal, where'd I put that Revival. No wait! This time let's be a *tiny* bit more prepared, shall we? After Revival turn Weave and Stealth back on, and use that insp tray again mmkay? They're gonna go bad if you don't, sheesh.

Whoooooom! click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click DID YOU MISS ME PUNK?!? Wham wham! Power Thrust clear across the street... pounce on him... wham wham wham wham You have defeated Special Agent Sharpshooter. *stops to catch breath*

Wedgie him for good measure. 8)

I wouldn't call it one of my most favorite memories, but one that greatly amused me:

I'm doing one of the Mercedes Sheldon's arcs. Dirge of Chaos. First time I had ever done it. I escort Amanda to the door. The text says "The world has returned to normal."

Cue my first ever Zombie Apocalypse.

I thought for sure that this was actually another part of the arc ....

My favorite memory was hearing a team shout for help with a mission.  This was way back, around I7 or so.  I was on my old Tanker, Cobalt Commando.

I heard them shout, messaged the leader to give me a team invite.  The mission, miraculously, was literally twenty yards away.  I entered.  As I ran in, I saw a huge horde of enemies, with the defeated bodies of my newfound teammates scattered behind them, and their emp defender about to join them.  I was an SS/INV tanker with flight - the classic Flying Brick.

I turned on flight and dove headfirst into the mob of enemies, burning every click I had the moment I hit them. The Defender was literally one hit away from defeat when a big blue fist the size of her head caught the Herc Titan aiming at her under the chinplate and launched it into the ceiling.  Another one caught it as it fell back to earth, and the machine exploded violently.  Suddenly, everyone was shooting at the enormous blue cape-wearing engine of knuckles and rage that was tossing them around like ragdolls.

The Emp defender tried to heal me.  I told her thanks, but to focus on getting the others up.  While I turned a second Herc into a big mechanized paperweight, she woke up the blaster and the scapper on the team.  The scrapper was terrifed, and said he didn't want to get involved in that mess again - he was apparently the first to go down.  I didn't say a word - instead I just punched a gunslinger in the scrapper's direction.

What followed turned into a well-oiled machine of destruction.  I held the enemies' attention, and occasionally smashed one of them out of the crowd into the blaster & scrapper's reach, letting them rip the solitary foe apart.  The Emp defender kept everyone healed up as best as she could, but my health was still slowly being worn away.  There was a lot of dudes and they were above the entire party's level, so beating them down took a little while, but when it was all over, I was standing in the middle of a field of unconscious baddies, with a sliver of health left, and three very awestruck teammates looking at me like I'd just grown three heads and two of them were breathing fire.

I pop a green and say.  "That was fun.  Who's next?"

I remember being in the game awhile, alting out of control, as usual. We had a team of 6 or 7, it wasn't a full team, but we were not 50s. We decided to look up our ole pal, Baggy Eyes, aka the Kracken. It was a minimal crew, but we had that debuff/damage type of team when we engaged Mr. Green Goo. I should add this was probably the first season of the Zombie Apocalypse event.

You guessed it. Perez Park, and we were fighting a Giant Monster class beast with ever more and more zombies up to our armpits. It looked really grim until.... cue Yukon Cornelius, BAGGY EYES HATES ZOMBIES!!

The enemy of our enemy is our friend! We focused on the zombies. Our debuffers had a lot of AoE attacks. Baggy Eyes was stomping his heart out on hapless event leveled targets. We just had to stay out of melee range of the Big Green Goo. We got all the Zombie badges and we leveled up XP faster than you would in a regular event on the sandy hill in Talos Island (well, pre-league at least).

When the zombies stopped, we were stoked and sent the Kracken packing quickly, rather anticlimactic.

Gameplaywise, I have quite a few favorite moments but I'll try to boil it down to just one.

A lot of people gave tanking Brutes a hard time once you could be any AT anywhere without even needing to sideswap. While Tankers have that nice taunt aura to their attacks, Brutes can be just as survivable. Also while Tankers may like getting aggro as their job, Brutes actually do something with it. Woo fury! Anyway, with that background, you can imagine that my Elec/Elec Brute occasionally was implied to be inferior in a polite, yet ugh sort of way. A little because Elec Armor was less than impressive. A little because she was a Brute and not a Tanker.

Being that this was CoH, this was never "reroll, lol" but it still could be the slightest bit bothersome. She was an RP toon, so I'd made her for concept - not for power level. That said I'd IO'd and +3'd her out rather nicely, and then Argent got her chance to shine. While Elec Armor is often a bit flimsier around the edges than other defense set, there is a place it shines.

While tanking an Enraged Marauder through all of the runs required for a MoLAM was satisfying, nothing felt quite as awesome as the time I went on a UG iTrial, and two tankers had volunteered to be tank, and backup tank for the various challenges therein. The first tanker died horribly even with buffs and heals. The second tanker couldn't keep aggro. Leaping up into the air, I declared I was taking over tanking the warwalker. My heath never dipped below half, and it went right where I wanted. Even if no one on that team had ever questioned the validity of an elec/elec brute, I felt smugly satisfied.

Too many 'good' memories here. I suppose, my 1st ones were when I finally joined an SG.
Then was being added to peoples' Global friends list. That made me feel like 'family' in the game,
I had chats to look forward to and SG friends to help me out with advice.

Strange memories were the occasional children that would log into CoH. They always seemed to 'find' me.They would tell me a little of their personal lives. It was bizarre and touching.

So many to name.

The newness of the game way back when.  And a few months after....

My first Winter event, and if I recall, a free jingle jet just for logging in.  Back then, I don't think I'd made any flying heroes yet, and raptor packs were either not in the game, or not easy to find for a fairly new player.

A few super mini-sized Mother Ships raids done with less than a full team.  Such a blast.

A lot of people gave tanking Brutes a hard time once you could be any AT anywhere without even needing to sideswap. ....

 I felt smugly satisfied.

I feel ya there.  I often got the, "Um, really, no, I think we need a tank," line, and then watching in smug satisfaction as they realized,  "Wow, a defender(?!?) CAN tank!"  Of course, unlike a Brute, I really wasn't doing a ton of damage, but, really, the total disbelief shifting to total amazement was always well worth it.

Making power combos that 'can't work' not just work, but work really well...  That was fun, too.

Too many more to name, but those always come to mind.

Honestly...theres so many.
Solo herding oranbega maps way back in issue 2 with an invul scrapper so my lower level blaster friends could catch up in level,
soloing Monster island on said scrapper from level 44-50. All the AVs I soloed back in the day before IOs/incarnate powers,
all of the first instances of the holiday events,
those first hami raids that were practically no more strategically sound than just hoping we had enough bodies to zerg him,
those first few months after CoV came out where the pvp zones were bustling with activity(the only game i really liked pvp at all in, btw)
Justice Radio parties in Paragon Dance Party took up most of my late nights.

And really...the nigh-thousands of time that I thought that I couldnt win a fight, decided "HELL NO. IM A SCRAPPER. I MAY DIE FIRST BUT YOU WILL DIE LAST, SIR!" and popped a full tray of inspirations to take them down.

My number one favorite memory is stepping into Atlas Park the first time, right after the tutorial in Outbreak. I joined between issues 8 and 9 and when I heard that music, playing just for me, the new hero, I was just awed. Finally, I found a game I could actually play and it was as a Superhero!

The first Halloween Event is also a fond memory. Trick or treating (and occasionally getting the stuffing knocked out of me.)

And, finally, near the end, the SSAs. Those, THOSE, made me feel like a real hero. I was getting recognized by the legendary heroes and treated as one of their own. I had made it!

YES. I loved the SSAs so much. No game has ever made me feel more a part of its story, nevermind being seen as one of the most powerful beings on the planet.

Activating the flight power for the first time. I had never seen another game that gives you totally unrestricted flight like that. It was awesome.

My favorite memory is the first time I did the Praetoria - Blueside portal mish at level 20.  The toon had soloed all the way through the Prae arcs, so I had met a lot of contacts.  Having them recognize me as I headed for the portal to decide if I wanted to go blueside or redside with that majestic music playing was very moving.  I got a litttle misty-eyed as I left Praetoria.

I have to say the most fun I've had is the introduction of Widow and Soldier.  I don't know why I LOVE these two ATs so much.  I had the most fun leveling these two ATs.

The introduction of creating your own story arc was a huge hit too...  power leveling all day, every day.  I got on, went to Cap and you could find a team under 5mins!  lol  But it did get old after a while.

I certainly have more than one, but two that strike me right now are....

1)  Taking flight on my first character.  I'd already been playing the game for a couple of years and had been sticking with concept travel powers, on Red Side to boot.  I finally had a hero character that got flight and the first thing I did was go take a look at the blimp in AP.  I quickly realized I should have listened to the boards and taken it sooner.

2)  Finding out my name-sake SR stalker, with five attacks slotted with Kinetic Combat plus Shadow Meld, could tank for a team of squishies.  Sure, their healing helped some, but I often didn't need it (plus found myself healing them with my Heal Other from the Medecine Pool).

Dang, now you guys have me really missing playing him...  :(

I remember when me, Cherry Bomb, and a few others did the first All-Stalker LRSF on test. This was before i8 and before them lowering the difficulty of the Phalanx a bit. Also, the Scientist would bug on occasion and run through walls like crazy. At the time, stalkers were considered a "pity spot" and the idea of an all-stalker run was kinda crazy.

But we pulled it off. And all I got was a Centriole.  :-\

MY first "Wow" moment would be getting my very first level 50, Spines/Regen Scrapper. I hit 50 in the last room of the Lady Grey Task force JUST before the Nemesis cut scene triggered.

Firing off the Electric Judgement power in the middle of three spawns before they fixed it twice over. When it went live the damned thing could actually hit enemies several times if it jumped around long enough. Secondly somebody forgot to remove the damage buffing code from the psuedopet. As on Infernal Infested, my SS/Fire/Mu Brute, with her three stacks of rage and continuous burn of reds, that was pretty ridiculous pretty quickly.

Also with Infernal, another fond memory was the first few weeks/months of AE, when you could fill a mission full of bosses. Being able to fight a churning sea of Freakshow Tanks and not merely survive, but THRIVE was totally awesome.

Taking down giant monsters with a low number of players was also amusing. My group had run a TF that ends in Dark Astoria, and after it was done we had four players left and Adamastor was up, so we figured "Why not?" Then later one I remember trio-ing ToT Eochai when me and a few others were taking advantage of Halloween's never ending night to farm BP Masks.

And then once Incarnates hit, I loaded up my inspiration tray and prepped using the auction house "use anywhere" command in order to take on a few GM's on my own. I managed to take out the Kraken, Adamastor, and Scrapyard with Infernal. :D

When running Incarnate trials it would always make me smile when I used Knock-Out Blow (again with Infernal), and could tell when the blow landed, because I'd see the UI show the health bar dipping by a good 2 percent.

Ok, so here's probably the best one I have from the game:

It's around January 2008, and I'm playing one of my oldest and most beloved blasters in her bid to get to 50. She finishes off one of the Praetorian missions and BAM! gets to 50. About that time, my wife enters the room.

"Hey honey! I just hit 50 on Sky-One!"

"That's great dear! I'm pregnant!"

"...."

Followed by lots of hooting, shouting, and celebrating. Fast forward a few months and little Stefan Richter was born!

I have so many wonderful memories.  However, as this is my favorite, I'll go with...

The final night of COH.

Know that it is certainly not because I am glad that the game has come to an end, it is just, on that night, everything was so alive, so intense, everything was so full of meaning.

Every action, every word, knowing that the end had finally come.  I've clung to and treasured those moments and I know that I ever shall.

That evening's finale...the "grand finale"...

What better way than to go out on an ITF with a couple of my closest friends?

I can think of no other...

If this game is resurrected, my hope is that it endures forever.

For I am confident that that night, the final night, shall never be surpassed.

My favorite memory:

Was on my elec/wp/mu brute.  Someone was asking for help taking down an EB at the end of one of the Patron arcs.  I joined the team, and it was just us two.  They asked "do you think we need more?" I promptly replied, "No, I think we'll be fine."

We then proceeded to smack the s#!7 out of the EB by ourselves (honestly, I think I did most of the work, but that may just be because this is from my perspective).

He thanked me, then said something like "I wish I'd run into you with *his alt's name*"

I said, "well, if *his alt* has an EB to take down, I'll help right now if you have time"

We went through a couple more of his alts and several more EBs.

I just felt like pure AWESOME after that!!!  Made my day (and his)!!!

I had that happen so many times over the years.  :)

I have 3 if you don't mind since I played from the first day it went live:

1. It was the second week of the game and I was on my emp def Que. We were in Perez Park killing Hydras and a first day player a tank who in real life was only a 12 years old girl and myself were the last ones alive versus a Boss Hydra. The rest of the team was face down in the lake and I kept attacking and spamming heals all of us were cheering for the little girl to beat the monster! I was slowly dying and gave my last green inspiration to the tank as I died. She had about 2 health left when that Boss died and it was at least 10 minutes before we stopped cheering for her.

2. It was the second day of the Reactor trial. It was massively buggy with random spawn levels in the reactor. We were fighting Freakshow and it was the last wave we were barely surviving each wave and the last one did it - we started to drop. It was a only 2 fire tanks left alive. We literally went back to back at the core and fought in a circle picking up drops from our team. One bass was left and he shredded the other tank and then sliced me. I was badly hurt but so was the boss. I dropped one last Burn patch and then died - the Dot from the burn patch killed the last Boss! The team was again so full of screaming in chat it was incredible!

3. I was on my Ice/Storm controller Mab Queen of Winter at about 2am EST. I was finally heading to bed when I passed an odd sight - a player at level 45 named Harry Dresden. There was no way he made it this far into the game on that name I was thinking. A thought formed in my head - /t Harry Dresden, Mortal dost thou need a favor from the fae? He spun around in a circle and saw me - he almost literally jumped in the air. He said uh, maybe - what's the catch? You help me with a mission and I will help you - I explained.

In the first mission fighting Council, I had a bunch packed in a corner (fighting at +2x8) I dropped Ice slick, Hurricaned them into the wall and proceeded to slaughter them with complete safety. He words were - That is sooo freaking cool - let me know he was indeed Jim Butcher and we played for a couple more hours until at 4 am - I called it a night.

Good times!
I had something similar on a Dfb. We started with a full team, but by the time we reached the Hydra twins we were down to a DP Blaster (me) and a Peace Bringer.
Don't know how long it took, but each of us two called Statesman for help like 3 or 4 times.

And then there was this one Frostfire mish; me playing on a Stone Tanker "Trollbane". Quite at the end there is a rather small room where you got swarmed with enemies. Well long story short, my whole team wiped...repeatedly and when they returned from hospital they found me standing right in front of Frosty, having cleared the whole map and keeping him busy. I had to use Rest like 5 times to not run out of Endu, but with all my toggles running my HP never got below 80% 8)

I started on release day way back when, and although I had followed its development and knew it was a superhero-themed MMO, I had no idea the scope of what it would look like until I logged in, having only played Freedom Force a little in that genre.

1. Seeing someone (in sort of an Iron Man robotic-theme) fly left to right over Atlas' globe. I thought it was just a scripted NPC much like the citizens, until they landed nearby and started talking. I went over and said "Was that you flying?" and they replied "Yes, we can all fly here!".

2. Fighting under the tree canopy in Perez Park, and our group getting lost. We didn't know cc very well and those 10-packs of mobs would scatter like the wind, pulling yet another nearby pack in sometimes. We died, we ran, we won ... mostly we laughed and bonded for what seemed like all day. Maybe it was all day, it was so much fun time flew.

3. The first time I saw a Tsoo Sorceror with his Big Trouble In Little China straw hat, and he threw a storm cyclone around himself, then teleported away. I said in my group "I wish we could do that" and someone replied "Controllers can; that was the Hurricane power". So I rolled one later that night named Banelord, and who 8 years later I was logged on with when the game ended Nov 30.

Ahh, so many memories collected in 7.5 yrs...  I'm reading through this thread and I just keep repeating "yep, that's my favorite memory" and then I read the next post, "oh right, THAT's my favorite memory".

But if I have to narrow it down to the most fundamental memory, it was the first time I logged into Atlas (this being my first MMO), heard the music that I never get tired of, and saw several heroes flying by Atlas' statue.  The city was ALIVE!  We could FLY!  I was shaking from excitement and nervous energy.  I couldn't wait to fly.  I reached level 6 and picked up hover.  I crawled all over the Atlas skies at a whopping 2mph!  It was the greatest thing ever.

There were countless moments of "Think we need more?", "No, we should be fine", and proceeded to wipe the floor.

I made many new friends this way.

I miss this game...

It's hard to compete with this memory though.   ;D

New Year's Day 2005, i played CoH for the first time. So awesome.
Created my hero Crimson Death Viper(a name now used all over the Internet).
Teamed up with a hero called Tankerbell. lol
