So, yeah, we are in the post apocalyptic era now.  :-[
Let's rebuild what we can and keep the community alive.

This is Coffin, formerly known on CoH boards as Coffin, global was @Koffin.
Mostly played on Virtue, but started on Infinity at launch.
Skyfighter, Osirian, Inviktus, Red Reaver, Dune Hawk, Boomtastic and a lot more.

Experienced lurker, altaholic, costume enthusiast.

I make weird characters such as Brawling Humiliator (Solo only, Street sweep only, Brawl only/WP Brute, to 50, then teamed for Incarnate stuff) and Total Dependent (no real offense in rad, helpful Ice defense, Team only oriented Defender 50)

@Blue Phaser here.  Blue Phaser was on Freedom, with a couple of villains I had.  I mostly played on Protector (variety of toons; heroes & villains) and Liberty with my Squadron Supreme homage toons.

Made a lot of good friends on all of these servers. 

Damn, I miss the game already.

I started on Freedom, moved my play mostly to Champions though I still played on Freedom occasionally.

This may give the wrong impression that there are less people still interested than there are (http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/5356/cityofheros7years.jpg) (I read somewhere the playerbase is around 15 million, but I can't find a source if anyone has? :)) since most people do not read forums - on 'star trek online' there is this post (http://www.webcitation.org/query?url=http://forums.startrekonline.com/showpost.php?p=2497782) dated April 2010: "we have over 100,000 active players who do not post on the forums" from  when their total players was... around 100k... So, that's probably the most scifi/tech orientated online RPG{*} having 1% or less people posting on the forums, and instead keeping in touch more casually with a) ingame chat [obviously we can no longer count on that] b) facebook and alternatives (diaspora!!!) [very few people use twitter, it's a similar phenomenon to forums in that twitter and forum communities often kind of exist in a bubble from the rest unless say, the "normal" media reports on something in twitter - good for that, but shouldn't be relied on])

{*} (which I don't play cos it's well, just pretty boring really, tried it and it seems to be very much a "franchise game" trying to rely on people that are fans rather than how it was advertised as being genuinely *exploring* new worlds with rich stories and depth rather than just auto-generated grind, not endorsing it at all just using it as one of the few examples I can find of a games company officially admitting the people who actually engage with them are a minority)

Also you posted it in the General forum which doesn't really have much posting going on, I think most people have the Save Paragon one bookmarked since a lot of the subforums aren't really used and just clutter (that should probably get fixed) compared to the big active SAVE PARAGON CITY one that kinda stands out. :)

Cyberman 8 - Scrapper - Martial Arts/Super Reflexes/Fighting Pool/Body Mastery
Movement Powers: Superspeed and Superleap
Notes: Cyberman 8 - if you saw him, and had been around in the early 60s or new enough anime history to spot the reference was nearly a straight homage to 8-Man (or to use his American sobriquet - "Tobor The Eighth Man").

He was created almost entirely as a result of the Samurai Costume Set that became available for Veterens in 2006. The "hat" brim sparked an old old memory when I was looking at it on a round helmet, and I evolved the rest of the costume from there and reference to old pics of the show.

He became so much more than that homage though. Something in him resonated with me. I came up with a complete backstory that dovetailed with his original concept and brought it forward in to Paragon City.

I thought about what it would be like to be the "ghost in the machine". A human mind - NOT an AI - residing in a "positronic matrix". I rejected the whole cyberpunk "angst" thing so prevalent in shows like "Ghost in the Shell". Reasoning that this is a 74 year old man who has gotten over any of that long ago. He's seen almost as much as Statesman. Including magic that reacts to him as a living being. He KNOWS he has a soul. He sees himself as human. If pressed, he'd concede he's using a "prosthetic body and brain".

I lavished concept details on how he worked. I created other costumes for him, but wore the original most often, and was surprised how many times someone would send me a tell complimenting me on the homage and not report me! In fact just in the last hours before shutdown I received a final compliment along the lines of "Congrats on rocking the 8-Man look for so many years!"

Kara Skye - Controller - Gravity Control / Kinetics / Psionic Mastery and Leadership Pool
Movement Power: Flight (Wings)
Notes: Kara was made because of a friends character from a table-top RPG. The striking thing about how that other character was portrayed was that the player took pains to role-play the downsides of having a 15+foot wingspan as well the advantages. I made Kara's look initially attempting to always keep her back free of clothing that would restrict her wings (later I relaxed that a little bit).

I also took the "realism" a little further. Even with a 15+ wingspan, she shouldn't be able to fly aerodynamically. I came up with the idea of her using some form of TK or Gravity powers to negate her mass and/or directing "pulses" of TK force downwards with her wings.

About the same time, I was playing Mass Effect, and the whole idea of Biotics combined with all of the above intersected. Thus she became a Gravity/Kinetics Controller. Which went completely against my usual tendencies of making melee-based characters. I struggled a bit with her in the early levels, but about the time she hit the mid 20s... WOW.

And when color tinting of powers became available, I re-colored all of her power effects a deep blue - matching the biotic effects from Mass Effect.

And I always took pains to never use any environmental emote that would intersect her wings with a wall or the floor. That 15+ ft wingspan is still as much of an inconvenience as it is a blessing. YOU try stuffing yourself into a compact car with those! Or sit in a normal chair, or go to a movie theater. On the other hand - FLIGHT.

And if she hugged you, she did so with both her arms AND her wings. ^_^


Lily the Diamond - Brute - Super Strength / Willpower / Mu Mastery
Movement power: Superleap
Notes: Lily has the distinction of being the only character I ever took full circle through the alignment process. Started as villain, went hero. Last 3 months I tried doing as much hero side content as I could with her, while taking her vigilante, final week before shutdown I took her back to Villain, and on the very Last Day - Nov 30th - she earned her final Alignment badge and then I nudged her right past and into Rogue status. I never thought of her as a hardened Villain, just someone who refused to adhere to anyone's rules but her own.)



Sassinak - Blaster - Dual Pistols / Energy Manipulation / Electrical Mastery
Movement Power: Technically none (she got around via Ninja Run/leap and temp jet packs and Rocket Board)
Notes: NOT an homage to the character from the Anne McCaffrey novel of the same name. I just liked the name and decided to use it on a character. Sass was my first and main Praetorian. Started as a Responsibility Loyalist and wound up leaning toward helping the saner parts of the resistance (the Wardens) at the end of the 1-20 Praetorian arc. I had a LOT of fun RPing the whole "responsibility versus power" angle. And mostly kept her consistent with a personal code of honor and service to others. I did allow her to do Mr. G's arc long enough to lay the smack-down on Reese. :) And she let Vanessa Devore escape from Mother Mayhem. She never encountered Katie Hannon until First Ward though.

Lora Doubet - Scrapper - Martial Arts / Invulnerability
Movement Power: Superleap
Notes: My very first character in COH ever. I pretty much retired her about the same time that Cyberman 8 was getting my attention, partly because invulnerability for scrapper was so gimped at the time, and I was having more fun with Super reflexes, and partly because of the next character below... 

Lora'lai - Kheldian Peacebringer - Luminous Blast / Luminous Aura
(Tri-form Peacebringer - Fully embracing the "shift to what's needed at the moment" versatility)
Movement: Kheldian Flight/Nova Flight/Dwarf Teleport
Notes: Lora'Lai was my first Kheldian, and I conceived her as the merging of Lora, above, with a Peacebringer. Some of my RP hooks I "borrowed" liberally from Jadzia Dax from DS9 in terms of young/old personality/experiences.

Others:
Startracker Zero - Energy/Energy/Munitions Mastery
Kamen Rider Blade - Willpower/Dual Blades

The above two were vague homages to Samus Aran and the Kamen Rider series. But only in a general way. There is actually a "Kamen Rider Blade" character and show, but mine wasn't designed to directly reference that character or any other Kamen Rider character. Instead KR Blade was a general riff on the whole genre in terms of his costumes.

Neither Zero or KR Blade were meant as RP characters. They were utility characters mainly useful for helping other people accomplish stuff.

Then there some characters I made specifically as jokes.

There was "Burning Sensation" the Fire/Fire scrapper who looked like a Power Puff girl in her teens and whose singing idol career was derailed by a trip to Paragon when she got in a series of events that gave her her powers. Her manager pulled an almost "Ascendant's Uncle Saul" level of goof in helping her choose her superhero name. Neither of them were native speakers of the English language, and "Burning Sensation" sounded cool to them (she's from Japan.)  Slight cultural oversight there. And the spawn of an INCREDIBLE amount of puns and entendre from my Supergroup whenever I played her - to the point that she died more often because I WAS LAUGHING TOO HARD TO SEE!

I also made "The Stig" from Top Gear. Who made many appearances at DJ Valor's show from The Cape Radio.

And there was "Dr. Stephan Fayte" - who really was "just a gifted surgeon, and nothing more!" 

(And I couldn't BELIEVE that name was actually available on Virtue server and that I thought of snagging it first! I had fun occasionally wandering into the "D" on that character and going around thanking all of the superheroes who had rescued "Me" in that radio mission in Peregrine Island. :D)

Those are just the ones that pop to the forefront of my head at this hour after an emotional night and not enough sleep. Overall across the servers I had FIFTY (50) distinct and unique characters (not counting a few duplicates of Cyberman 8 and a couple of others like Lora'Lai rolled on different servers back before server transfers were available). Many of them were little more than a unique costume looking for a character hook before I could really play them. Some of them were created and then never played past level 5 or so.

And my final favourite toon only created 5 days ago, finished at 50+2 and played like crazy for the final week, a martial arts/shield scrapper called Kinda Lingers. Now the name may raise a smile, but it has more significance than the obvious to Brits of a certain age. A much loved satirical TV show in the UK (Not the 9 o'clock news which had its origins in an early 1980s journalist strike so there was no BBC news, it launched the career of Rowan Atkinson amongst others) finished its final episode with a song called (the memory) kinda lingers which can be found on Youtube, and it seemed somehow appropriate to make the toon.

I was a proud leader (with @ace who posts here as AceSteveC) of Eurocore, a network of SGs of European based players on Victory. We had something like 6 full SG/VGs at one stage, and 24 people logged on in Eurocore's global chat channel as the servers went down, several of whom had played all night to the 8am our time shutdown.

Then sorry.) as an Elec/FF Controller, but that fell through because I am TERRIBLE at using control powers properly. Always have been. Always will be.

I started on Victory and Guardian, but then migrated to Infinity. I too am a lifelong altiholic who started playing CoX right after Issue-3 went live.

Stormistress on the boards, and @Bjorn Stoutarm in global.

I made it my mission to fill up as many slots as possible with new character creations, and that limited my path to 50 for many many of my characters. However, it was all about the FUN and the journey for me, and about all the wonderful people I met all along the way.


Notable characters are:

Tess Tamoni on Virtue (Shield/Elec. Tank)

Starr Quake on Virtue (Gravity/Elec. Dominator)

Dragons Spawn on Protector (Fire/Fire Blaster)

Stormistress on Infinity (Storm/Elec. Defender)

'Mirage on Infinity (Illusion/Storm Controller)

I was honored to have 'Mirage bestowed the leadership of The Natural Disasters, Inc. on Infinity several years ago. I remember fondly being recruited by Weather King, and all the good times that all of the NDI members had. It was great having the light RP going on with our many events (one of my favorites was the Talos beach party. Circle-head volleyball anyone? Awesome!, and let's not forget the in-game wedding of the NDI's own Bethany to Gabriel in Founders Falls.). The constant quest for the perfect SG uniform, with all those fashion shows. You guys were just wonderful.

There are so many experiences it could fill several books. The sudden random Inspiration or Enhancement dropped on you by an unknown benefactor. Being caught in a street ambush, and then having someone come along to keep you healed during the fight (or flight). Cruising the Rikti Crash Site with 'Mirage (yeah!, all those screen shots), or the Shadowshard.

It was inspiring to have all the good community help and contact. It made you want to contribute, and I often would just slowly fly overhead looking for heros to heal.


I will be visiting here often, and I look forward to spending time with all of you.

Wingnaut here. Global @Wingnaut. Started on Triumph 6 1/2 yrs ago, but managed somehow to find homes on just about every server. Pushed out the door by force when all went dark last night on Champion doing what I loved most, teaming with friends while fighting Arachnos....seemed fitting.

While I loved all my alts...the ones that stand out for me are Wingnaut, Pandimus, Stingshot, Mindblankk, Guardian Teslin...omg,the list goes on.

I was @Li Sensei in game, Canine on the boards, what relatively little I did post.  I was a Union player and only ever a Union player, except for a trip to Freedom for the 'let's crush the server' Praetorian invasion and a toon for the city hall steps vigil.

Li Sensei was my namesake and original toon (Katana/Regen scrapper) since the day before EU official launch (the servers came up the evening before the official launch day :) )

Tufa was my second favourite, and the toon most people probably saw me on if I was on a trial.  Stone/Fire scranker, Granite mode purely as a panic button, and almost an obscene amount of fun how hard to kill he ended up being.  Tufa also generated me Karmic payback for all of my toons' pain fighting Carnival of Shadows, because he was immune to Carnies and so spent enjoyable hours giving Vanessa DeVore a headache by ambling into the Psychic plane and burning clowns (yes, I was stupid enough to have a Carnie farm).

I loved all 25 of my alts (all on Union), and they all got to 50+3.  Was still working (slowly) on Hybrid for them all, but it would have come eventually even given my pathological aversion of farming for anything.

@Turjan, mostly from Union - originally @Sword of Albion - long story there...actually no, it's not that long, so I may as well tell it here now - why not? ;)

I started playing CoH at the first Christmas, but not on my own copy of the game. I'm English, and that first CoH Christmas, an American friend had come to stay over the holidays, bringing both CoH and World of Warcraft with him to show me.

I was instantly smitten with CoH. When my friend went back to the States after the holidays, I still had his CoH installed on my PC, and he kindly let me continue to mess about with it now and then. So I made Sword of Albion, a broadsword/regen scrapper.

Some time after this, Global names were introduced - it was a time when my friend wasn't using his account, so when I logged in as Sword of Albion, that became his global. He liked it, and so it stayed :)

Eventually, CoH was released in Europe, I got my own copy, and the first thing I did was remake Sword of Albion, which of course became my (European) Global. Finally, when the servers merged, my friend retained the Sword of Albion Global, and I renamed mine to Turjan...which, as it is the name I use for everything online anyway, actually made things more logical in the end ;D

So, yeah - @Turjan of Union, primary toons (i.e. my Incarnates): Sword of Albion (broadsword/regen scrapper), Lady Enceleda (empathy/rad defender), Dr.Turjan's TEA Mk.I (rad/elec defender), Gordon's Guardian (willpower/battle axe tank), and Street Shade (street justice/willpower scrapper)

Most of you knew me as either Atomic Guardsman, American Vanguard, or Atomic Juggernaut on Virtue.

Look ... this hit me hard as well but I want to say thanks to Titan for giving us a way to stay together.

I have some characters on other MMO's but COX was MY game, the game I ALWAYS turned to to relieve stress, meet friends, or just create something new.

For anyone who knew me and wants to keep in touch, I have an e-mail address and FB account I will post in a contacts thread if one is ever created.

For those of us on Virtue last night, we got royally screwed by the server crashing. I had luckily made a backup on Exalted and was able to watch as servers died 3 minutes late ... prompting some of us to wonder if it was a cruel ruse.

Am I emotional, hell yes. Am I mad at NCSoft, hell yes. Even thought about leaving MMO all together. I do hope to keep in contact with some of my old friends. If you see this post and you are in another MMO, shoot me a message. Maybe we can meet.

Yesterday was bittersweet.  I haven't played much in the last month or so due to a combination of depression over the announcement and real life.  But I have logged in the last few days to savor the last moments and say goodbye.

I was buoyed by seeing my global friends list lit up more than I ever remember seeing it and by getting to run a +4 ITF and LGTF and some Itrials.

My eyes welled up a few times this morning reading Facebook posts and looking at screenshots and videos.

But the biggest punch to the gut was trying to look at the COH forums one last time and seeing that it was already gone.

My sincere thanks go out to Tony and the Titan Network team for keeping our community alive.

I was AkuTenshiiZero on the boards, @Rose Prince in game.  I wasn't very well known, but you might have seen me on Virtue mostly as my Corruptor Capt. Stormrider.  If you ever were involved with the small SG Young Freedom I was Zeta Silver, though I had retired that character long ago.  And of course I had 20+ alts fairly evenly spread across both factions, but only on Virtue.

(from an old rp on a mud where Cara was infused witha  demon, releaseing his darker nature, out to mess with duplicates and Cara)
Daemokaer lvl 50 stj/energy aura (second alt for daemocaer, now shackled by Caraecyn and off doing.. bleh heroic deeds)
I also had planned but scrapped a warshade version, though he was mentioned in rp.

Jonas Sahandra     lvl 50 scrap dm/sr (vampire catman)
one of my two original charcters around before badges were even out, he went through crazy bloopers back then like not having practiced brawler until lvl 22
I got to meet the Kil Skuls guy, teamed with him.
He became soemthing entirely different and fun to play on the game.
I even had spectators in dead teamates who couldn't rez from council spawns once.
They said it as like watching jackie chan =)

Sanoj lvl 50 brute db/will (I made 2 at the time sicne there wa sno side switching, this ebcame my priamry farmer and did my 'Bughunts' in AE. They were small winged insect customs that grouped nicely for db and at +4x8 were a challenge to even io'd farmers. I also ised them to test the strength of my builds.)
J0NAS lvl 50 tanker DA/Staff - I did not get to play him enough =(
My DA/elec brute build was clunky and slow. This was godly and enjoyable to an extreme, last night I LGTf's with pyroembryo and loved every moment of this character. also had spring attack for set bonuses, but it became part of my defensive spin, stomp and whirl aoe of combo attack.

I started with the launch of  COV with @maelestrous on the Defiant server, Red side.  As the COV patch dwindled, I moved to Freedom, blue side, for the population.  I had one lvl 50 (artimiste- archery/tech blaster).  I closed my account just before NC-soft bought paragon.

With the release of GR, I returned to COH with @cosmic comix.  My still existing supergroup name from my previous account.  I forgot all my old account info and had lost the original game and key.  Luckily, I still had a few friends left from the old days to help reclaim my old super group.  With this account, thanks mostly to the MF's, I had a ton of 50's, and a bad case of altitis.  My main server was Virtue, but Freedom was a close 2nd.

Thank you Paragon, GM's, dev's, and players alike for a most enjoyable and *musing* experience.  The stories I've imagined for my characters, and other players stories, will live on in my memory.

It was really good seeing you on Justice United yesterday, Flea.  I'm really glad you came back.  It had gotten so empty and discouraging, sometimes taking an hour to recruit for the Hami Raid, and niggling in the back of my mind was always, where are these good people?  Yes, going next to the Official forums where we could have written about this after "sunset' and seeing it all gone was horrible!  I truly loathe them for that!  Bad enough killing City of Heroes before our eyes but then to take away the venue where we might share final thoughts, memories, condolences, was heartlessly cruel.  Either they're really desperate for computing space, but my take on it is they'd prefer we each become Titans as well as written off customers.  (The ultimate icing is I can't even log into my NCSoft Master Account. Sheesh!  Looks like they've disabled or deleted those records.  They don't need to tell me again how much they do NOT want my business.)  I'm glad you got to do ITF and other fun stuff.

Modifying to note when speaking with an attorney today (she's a friend) she explained that if the purpose of closing CoH was to end all related contracts then the forums would also have to come down and that it would be cleaner legally to do it all at the same time.  So I'm done being POed at NCSoft for that.

Was fairly active on the CoH forums as hudsonsmith during that period (I eventually changed it to _Uun_) and wrote a couple of guides. Started playing again as a free player in September 2011 when Freedom launched but played only on Protector and was absent from the forums due to the limited posting rights given to free players.

I played on Virtue and Infinity under the names  Deeds, (as well as Randal Deeds, Commander Deeds, Agent Deeds, Operative Deeds, and Capt. Deeds), Decatanium, Dr. Fraust, Dr. Phoenyx, Demigod Shard, Demigod Riven........ and Operatives Orange, Silver, Prism, and Titanium from 'The Operatives' Super-group....  before the Super-group mechanics were even in place.



I saw the game launch.  I saw it end.   

Felt like someone not only kicked my dog, but that I lost a good friend too last night.

Chase Arcanum here.  @chasearcanum.  My wife (@Sibylla aka Cinder Flame) is here too, lurking.

Main server was Liberty, but we had alts virtually everywhere. 

To me, there was no apocalyptic event, no "end" for my characters.  The story's just moved to a different format.  Chase and Cinder,  Shandora Ward and Devouring Flame,  Targe and Ka'rayi, Char Cool and Sibylla... they all still defend the streets of Paragon as they always have.

I've been tempted to re-imagine these characters in my own world- one not tied to NCSoft properties anymore, but all these characters were interwoven into the lore of CoH.  Change the lore and eventually these characters stop being who they are anyway.   They are part of that world.

Maybe someday I'll find inspiration for reinventing them, but for now, they continue the good fight there.

Home was Protector.  But I had toons on every server.  Was a part of Tanker Tuesday, and ran an open Fire/Rad group on Freedom for about 3 years.

I came in during Issue 12.  As far as I'm concerned it was a PERFECT entry point for CoH.  ED and GDN were long over, the invention system was well established, and 90% of the existing zones were already in place.  It only ever really got better for me (regardless of any bitching I did over trivialities).

@Lava-Lad and all my alts (Pinnacle, Justice, Virtue and Freedom) all took something from the name (Nova-Lad, Lava-Nictus, Leopard-Lad, Lava-Lass, Amaz-O...I like the hyphen, sue me).  I had been playing since late 2004 with some long gaps in there and as Pinnacle dried up, I was playing more and more on Justice.  I was glad to have gotten to team with so many people over time and see how ad hoc groups form/storm/perform even over brief periods of cohesion.  Thank you all for giving of yourselves.  Special thanks to Todd the Fire Kin and all the great folks at Paragon's Immortals for taking me in, and most especially for finishing out my WS's old i3 Dreck farm last night.  It was the last mish I ran.

I'm around, and while I'm not likely to post often, I don't think I care to let go of the community, however much on the periphery I have kept myself.

I first played in June 2004 (on a friend's account), and bought the game myself in August of that year. First character was Keihran, a BS/Regen Scrapper. Ten levels in, melee was ruined for me by trying to run missions in Skyway, dodging Rularuu invasion forces along the way.

@Valaton, mains are Valaton on Protector, and Myrielle on Infinity & Protector. Elec/Dev Blaster and Bots/Traps Mastermind, respectively. Also my only two 50's.

My main character and first 50 was the Malleable Mechanic. I had over 20 characters on Virtue at the shutdown. I have a Virtueverse page but it's in a horrible out-of-date state.

Stratoshade: Warshade, Praetorian version of Stratoburst (RP only of course), my only Vigilante; claim to fame:  tanked Lord Recluse successfully in crabform (couldn't buy a tanker or brute that night)
Brilliant Twilight: radiation/dark defender, arguably my most powerful character (L4 incarnate around the horn); MoMLTF, MoATF, MoBAF
Golden Eve: invulnerability/kinetic tanker; wussy offense, could take an INCREDIBLE pounding
Azure Sting: Arachnos Widow (went Hero ASAP); my second favorite character

When Plan Z/Phoenix gets up and running, these characters will be reborn - or should I say, 'dimensionally shifted'....

I was Coulomb2 on the CoH forums.  I figure it's much more likely you'd know me from there (in the unlikely event you recognize me at all) than anything actually in game (I'm a staunch soloer, so the chance you interacted with me in game is virtually nil).

I *think* if you recognize me at all, it would most likely be as the guy who did threads about taking a character (Pro Payne) from 1 to 50 using nothing but mission architect - people would request I try out their arc, I would, and then post a review of it on the forum.

The only other thing I can think of was compiling the information trying to figure out the most likely drop rates for incarnate components in the solo content (i.e. DA and later).  Incidentally, heh, I still have that information: by sunset I had information on 1,075 drops, with a rate of 76.4% common, 18.0% uncommon, 4.4% rare, and 1.2% very rare.

On Justice  I was Harlequin Gold as my main

Champion and Guardian knew me best as Moolana although I had a Moo on every server.. Many is the nights on Champion server did I sit in the Hollows doing SAR for the lower toons.  My Purple cow flying through the air to rescue people, rezzing them healing them then teleporting them to their missions. Those were the days.

Guardian I was Moo, Calliope Wren, Wait. What the ((And YES I got away with that name.. ))

Virtue I was Mother - Hello Paladin.. You never got back to me with pics of Us! Also Vincent St. Valerie, Nexus Libra, Amythyst Flame, Thorny Flames ((Miskatonic U. VG )) I inhereted and kept running Powers That Be since 2005. Also I was Mishal Van Ruin and Bunny Thulu.. I also had a Bunny Thulu on Ever Server, Either a Peacebringer or a Warshade XD.

I had a ton of chars on Every single server.. But Virtue ended up being my home at the last. I returned there and stayed.. But Guardian was right up there.

Starsman here. My Forum  name was Starsman, my Global in game was @Starsman, my main character was Starsman in Triumph... well you get the idea.

I was a member of the HUB and had no super group. I used to play so casually I ended up getting booted out of every super group rather "quickly" for breaking the 15 day inactivity window rules (i hate those rules btw, but understood them given limited size for SGs.)

Some of you may know me for my number crunching on the tanker forums, others may only know me for my anger and frustration against NCSoft during shutdown since I rarely left the tanker forums to talk balance anyways.

I'll be honest: I don't think think I will be too active in these forums. I should have not been as active as I was in the last 3 months but the game shutting down made me push a lot of real life stuff aside. I'll give it a try, though. I tend to always have steam running in at least one computer (may not be looking at it all day, though) so you can find me if you look up Tharsman or Starsman. My public name is Starsman and my icon is a tanker shield.

But I will try to pop up once in a while.

For historical perspective, I was CuppaManga because I changed my forum name in honor of CuppaJo leaving.  A very short time after, the forums upgraded (so you couldn't change your forum name anymore) and I got stuck with the name ever since.  :)

8 year veteran.  My husband was in Beta before the game opened, and I joined after it went live.

@Metal Britches, though I use Darkwing Turducken for a lot of things, him being my first level 50.

If you see a character in another game with a subtle City of Heroes reference as a name, there's a decent chance it's me. ("Rikti" on SWTOR, "Paragon Champion" on CO, you get the idea)

Also, any way an admin could post a ballpark population increase since the closure, maybe a rough trend if it has been going for longer?

My global was @Kane1.  I started using faith_grins as an internet handle long ago, but had already used my global handle change in CoH, so I was stuck with it.  I didn't really mind that, except that when I picked up a second account, @Kane2 was taken, so I couldn't change my global handle to match. =P  Oh, well.

I was Izanami's Neko (fire/fire / fire tank) ; Erin's Kat (emp/eng  defender) specialty taking down Rikti commo officer's portals before the xp nerf; HH's Kat ( WS, in homage to a Big military science-fiction character & morphed into a memorial for my cat who was also named after the same character) losing her hurts the most.  :'(

@Aehaed here. Somehow I managed to abominate that spelling even further as the atrocious handle I have here. I was always Airhead, although I was only able to nab that name on Exalted and on the forum. My main went by Aehaed, Air-Head and Air.head as he transfered around the servers, before finishing back on Infinity. I had other toons from the same unfinished novel: Knitwit, Duffer, Geezer, Kenning and Auntie. I also had a few toons that started life in CoH - Turnturtle, Bang Galore, and Weal.

Being on Singapore time I met only a few of you, but I know lots of you from the AE and Art forums. Awesome to see you all alive and well!

Many of you on the titan boards know me at this point, the rest of you may or may not. 

My original beta toon was a illusion/storm named Phase Light...when we went live I was a subscriber and Phase Light became an Illusion/empath who revelled in the pre purple-patch days.  Although I just didn't have the dedicated leveling time as some players, wow did my little scout/healer have adventures.  I choose hover-tp for her travel...and in the days before stalkers she was one of the few completely invisible toons.  She was retired and reactivated many times as the game changed...she came out of moth balls for the end because she was my first and I wanted to have some kinda of end to her story.  She ended her time 1 bar shy of level 40, having just participated in the battle inside sister psyche's mind and ensured the destruction of malaise.  Her home was Pinnacle and all her original friends were pre global names and are lost to the mists of time.

Psionic Avenger found her home on the Liberty server.  A member of the middle elves supergroup, along with several of my other Liberty server heroes.  Although originally human, the elven persona she took on in order to join her account sister in this wonderful SG became a near permenant look.  A kinetic/psi blast balenced build with jump kick, hover, fly made a synergistic, effective, and wildly fun toon to play.  She could send foes flying, put they to sleep, or weaken them merciliously, heal and boost friends, or destroy foes.  She was versatile and able to take on multiple roles, a true hero.  She was the hero to complete who will die 3.  It was an epic battle and she prevailed before the cruel destruction of her world.

Bloodstryke, also of Liberty, was a member of the Middle Elves and their base designer.  The very first toon I ever got to fifty, was created for that exact purpose.  An Elven Warrior Lass wth bloodsplattered golden armor and a broadsword she was originally shared by my husband and I until he got his own account.  She still misses her long lost friend Boognish and wishes he had appeared before COH vanished.  She became an incarnate, got several new suits of armor, but she remained an elf of action, without a real story.  She did not log on november 30th as an incarnate and having finished who will die 5-7 with her (without getting the chance to play the earier ones) I felt her story was complete.  She saved the world that day and could not avert the fcomming storm.

Siphoning Spark, Theta Light, and Paragon Thorn lived on virtue along with less important sisters.  Theta spent a little time adventuring in Kings Row a few weeks prior to Nov 30th, she chose to protect a bank and then camped out on a truck to wait for a miracle...she wanted a future but there was no time to give her one, only a few hours for a final memory.  She specialized in radiation.

Paragon Thorn did not have a particularly amazing story but she stood far more hours on the steps of Virtue's AP33 then was really wise considering I was using a laptop...on nov 30th she stood the entire time I was at work.  She was spines/sr and destroyed at the tender level of 12

Siphoning Spark, one of two kin/elec defenders my husband and I called "the twins".  She never got a final mission with her partner but she did get a gorgous flight over IP a resting spot on the bridge and was there in the channel talking to various devs when virtue crashed.

More to come, so many more...including my namesake and the very special story of the toon for whom I raced time itself to place on the Atlas Globe of Guardian with only moments to spare.

It's nice and yet sad to see the familiar names here.

I was Creole Ned on the CoH forum and that was my global as well. I had four 50s when the game was shut down. In order:

Each took roughly a billion hours to get to 50 because I was never speedy at leveling.

Started on Infinity a tad over a year ago. Finished a few 50s there and started my SG "Think Different". Yes huge Apple fan! Moved my SG and those couple 50s and some lowbies to Virtue which became my main home, mostly because there were people and lots of itrials \o/ Yes if you saw me it was most likely on an itrial although I did like to check out the interesting costumes/bios in the D.

Hey, TA!  Glad to see you here!  Thanks for the many TFs and iTrials you led.

Like many I'd maxed out toon slots on various servers, 107 characters spread across 9 servers, many of them long neglected lowbies I just wouldn't delete since I was hoping to get back to them someday.  It would have been a major work project that I put off indefinitely to  review each to see whether I liked the powerset combo I'd come up with was any good; but I also had a sentimental attachment to the character concept and often costume design of my early lowbies.  It was rare that I had a character who didn't have a toon biography.  I think I deleted only 3 characters total.  I'll add my 50's to the list:

I'm Von Krieger, went by Von Krieger on the forums and was @Von Krieger in the game. :P

I played all over the place, but mostly on Freedom and Virtue.

Most often I'd be on my SS/Fire Brute; Infernal Infested.

My previous go-to character was Spiny Sister, my Spines/Regen Scrapper, who was my first level 50. And I'll always remember WHERE I dinged 50 with on her. Last mission of the LGTF in the last room, just before Nemesis hit.

My other projects over the years have been:

Howdy! The name's Triplash. (@Triplash) I spent most of my time on Virtue, chatting, tailoring, street sweeping, afk'ing to deal with house stuff, ninja running or super jumping around checking out the scenery, and every once in a blue moon, running a mission. If you ever saw anyone in the 'Crystalguard' sg, or got a fortune cookie with your mystic fortune, that was probably me :)

Known variously (4 vip accts) as Bowan, Wikkid, NotListed, Mu Master:

Primary shard was Justice for blueside, or Freedom for redside.  Played at least occasionally on all servers, and nourished an extreme altitis.  When the sunset became imminent, I deleted pretty much everything below level 20, closed extra bases & consolidated most characters to my 2 primary server locations. 

The last few months I'd found the Iron Eagles SG with Ineffablebob & have been enjoying it immensely - the other hardcore SG's I'd been in both collapsed after a couple of months each - these guys just seemed to love making fresh toons & running together, seldom got bent-up about losing one.  I'll really miss them all.

@TigerBaby and @Horizon Fire in-game (DH and I shared 2 accounts)
My 'main' and home base was Tigerbaby (MA/regen Scrapper, 50 +1) on Pinnacle, but i had a Tigerbaby on every server except Virtue (but I think the name might have been taken there by my first Tigerbaby, piggybacked on a friend's account when I was seeing if i could even run the game, as I live so far north connectivity is always an issue).  Between DH and I nearly every server list was filled, except for the expansion servers.  Tigerbaby had a Pinnacle villian-side analogue Wicked Tibby (also Incarnate) and some of my notable toons included: "This Little Piggy", "Nice Puppy", "Runs With Scissors" and "Ded Kitty".

I started playing shortly after launch, and played avidly for many years, but had moved away from the game up until recently (suffering from an excess of rl) but came back shortly before the doomsday announcement.  I mostly played on Tigerbaby, as he was the most-comfortable of all my characters to play (I was very rusty after several years' hiatus) and it made me terribly sad that my 'baby' toons would never be given the chance to 'grow up'.

Tigerbaby was a proud member of Twilight, Inc. SG and spent the 'end of days' in the company of fellow members Tanglespire and River of Dreams, right to the final dc.

I am grateful to Titan Network for giving us this refugee camp after our world was destroyed, and am keenly watching the efforts of those who fight to return it to its glory.  You never truly appreciate what you have until it is gone.

@Perfy in game. Perfidus on forums. I played exclusively on Virtue, and was a heavy RP'er. (Still intend to be. NCSoft can take my game but it can't take my hobbies.)

My home was freedom my first toon was a villain who went rouge named sweetpea30. But who I really am is Stropes or more commonly known as Steve. ;D
