Title: I'm sure it's unrelated.

It's very likely to be unreleated - what I'm concerned about is some of the wilder CoH fans posting comments or spreading the story and implying that it's a revenge attack.

To quote Nelson, from T.V.'s "The Simpsons"...
HA HA!!

It's almost certainly the Chinese, not a vengeance crazed CoH player... anyone smart enough to pull this sort of thing off would understand that it wouldn't exactly be helping our cause. At least I hope so.

Getting your game hacked and your players' online privacy compromised by the People's Republic... that's the sweet smell of success for ya, NCsoft. Enjoy.

I don't think it's a player at all, and it's humbling that the number of accounts hacked is where the petition was on Monday.

As far as smart enough, 4chan occasionally provides good examples of what a double-edged sword that can be.  This seemed to be vulnerable to a fairly easily obtainable script, though.

I doubt it's related.

It better not be.  We can't make a very compelling case for our community with something like that.  But I have faith in us and that no one was that stupid or crazy.

As a GW2 player, I can confirm that this in fact started during the 3 day headstart. Which was before the closure was announced. Therefore it is unrelated. The most logical guess to make is that it's people attempting to get a set of email address and password in order to either sell all your in game stuff or to take the information to more sensitive sites like bank websites etc. and steal your money. It's not likely to be a disgruntled fan of any sort. Besides, all MMOs face this stuff at launch. Especially the ones that are expected to be popular.
