Title: Save City of Heroes - A FAQ
Post by: Soundtrack on September 04, 2012, 07:46:03 PM
I thought it might be a good idea to have a centralized location of information that we might need to readily access.

As information is provided/shared, I'll be happy to update this post.

Perhaps a moderator would be willing to "pin" this thread.

Also, if there is information you'd like here, just shoot me a PM with the question and link (if possible) and I'll update this post. :)

Q. I want to give financial help, what can I do ?
A.
We are currently in the process of finding out what options are actually available to us.  Once we've figured out that part, we'll need to decide which available option to pursue.  At that point, depending on the decision, we may need to start building the war chest.

Q: How about Kickstarter/Chip-In/Indiegogo/some other crowd-funding site?

A: We have looked into almost all the "donate to a cause" sites extensively.
-- Kickstarter is a no-go right out of the gate for buying/licensing the IP. You can only Kickstart new endeavors, so it's a long-off possibility for the spiritual successor (Plan Z)....but again, a long-off possibility. We haven't even gotten to laying the groundwork, let alone holding our hands out for money. And it may come that Plan Z doesn't even get out of the dreaming phase.
-- Indiegogo is a possibility if and when Plan Z gets to that point, but again won't work for buying/licensing the City IP.
-- Chip-In is more geared toward individuals working for a specific goal/bill to pay/general "I need money"/whatev. City IP/Plan Z are both way too big and way too broad for it.
-- Almost all the other "donate to a cause" sites are not big enough to assist either of our causes.

Q: To what types of social media links might we go for more information?

A: Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/SaveOurCityOfHeroes
    Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/#Savecoh

Q: I've heard there is a petition. Where might I find the link to go sign it and/or share it?

A: Please go here: http://bit.ly/savecoh and also feel free to share it!

Q: Is there a mailing address where I send postal mail to the CEO of NCSoft to show my support to keep City of Heroes going strong?

A: Yes. Here are the two mailing addresses:

Mr. Taek Jin Kim, Chief Executive Officer
NCsoft Corporation
1501 4th Avenue, Suite 2050
Seattle, WA 98101
UNITED STATES

In Korea:

Mr. Taek Jin Kim, Chief Executive Officer
NCsoft Corporation
157-37 Samsung-dong
Kangnamu-gu, Seoul 135-090
KOREA

Please check THIS LINK: http://bit.ly/write2ncsoft for more details and how you can help!

Q: Do we have a banner and/or graphic we can use?

A: We sure do! Check it out here: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4898.0.html

Q. Why save City of Heroes? It's dead already ! Leave CoH Alone D:
A. We are Heroes. This is What we Do. (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4882.0.html)

Q. Where can I read about articles that have featured our cause?
A. Check them out by clicking here: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4908.0.html

Q. I want to make my voice known, what can I do ?
A.You can sign petitions, join facebook groups, email a plea to Steam to buy the franchise or write to NCSoft that you feel they shouldn't shut down the game. Every information about those is here (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4880.0.html).

Q. I have famous contacts, what can I do ?
A. That's great ! Go seek help and notify your contacts on this thread (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4900.0.html).

Q. Where can I quickly see the coordinated efforts so I can join in?
A. Check out this link: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4880.0.html

I'm going to submit these questions and answers.

Q. Why save city ? It's dead already ! Leave CoH Alone D:
A.
We are Heroes. This is What we Do. (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4882.0.html)

(honestly, there is still too much of that)

Q. I want to give financial help, what can I do ?
A.

Definitely. Have I flubbed up already?

I'd also like to include a link to a thread where we have some media coverage. But right now, it seems to be sprinkled throughout the forums.

When I get home tonight from work, I'll compile a list (unless somebody has already done that...no need to re-invent the wheel).

Add to the 'what else can I do' that they can monitor for articles on CoH's 'demise' or our fight, and comment there (either by watching the forum, or finding them first and putting them in the 'thank the media' forum. And they can SPREAD THE WORD.

The "Thank The Media" thread at http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4908.0.html seems to have a pretty good list.  Now that the holiday is over, there's been some movement on several of the gamer news sites and that's very good!

I have seen many people send messages/tweets/etc to celebrities asking to help promote the cause. Would it be a good idea to compile a list for this FAQ that lists celebrities who have replied in one way or another (with support or decline) as to prevent multiple requests being asked of them? It would at the very least promote good will with them to not be inundated with requests. Of course there may be good reasons for not doing this, but it's just an idea :)

Made a smaller web address for the FAQ:  bit.ly/SaveCoHFAQ (http://bit.ly/SaveCoHFAQ)

Trying to squeeze as much info into my MOTDs as I can.  :)

Do you happen to have the link? I'll add it to the original post in this thread for you.

I would like to start using this thread as my link to broadcast for How To Help!  People get sidetracked or otherwise can have a hard time diving right into the "action items", so I think it'll help to bullet-point them.

So to help Snowblade keep it updated, here's what I think should be added:

Add a bullet-point as the first item, "Where can I quickly see the coordinated efforts so I can join in?", and link to this thread:
http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4880.0.html
(Caveat: That thread needs updating!)

Under Write NCSoft, post a link to the Masks & Capes call to action: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,5022.0.html

Under the Read about Articles, you can also direct link to the google doc (here's the link): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjrAo1HdYNiddGFha0dnTzF3OEE2Nm4wUlRwSWlMRmc

Under Make my voice known, here's a link to the printable flyers thread: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4994.0.html

...what am I missing?

Here's a subdomain redirect to the petition: http://petition.savecoh.com  to replace the bit.ly/savecoh .

I updated the OP with the crowd-funding answer, since it's such a common question/comment.

I want to see if I can get my Special Interest Group/Local Newspaper/Local TV Station to do a story!

Here is a link to an EXCELLENT press release written by Segev:

http://stormlord.us/NCSoft%20Realignment.pdf (http://stormlord.us/NCSoft%20Realignment.pdf)

It is in PDF form with pictures so it is ready to print or add as an attachment.

Correction (unless someone specifically contacted them and asked about it):
IndieGoGo would likely work to fund the purchasing of the IP. IndieGoGo is far less strict about what it can be used for than Kickstarter, and it can even be used to start a business.. I imagine if you were wanting to start a business and part of the requirement of starting that business was obtaining the IP you could do it. Even if it could not be used to purchase the IP, it could be used to fund 'new studio' in order to publish CoH once the rights had been obtained.

In that vein, it is possible also that, once again following the rights attainment, Kickstarter could be used to fund a 'new studio' while it got City of Heroes up and running..

(I've spent a lot of time going over the rules and regulations for both IGG and KS)

I had started something similiar here and had a lot of links for the most common items on the board.   My work may be redundant at this point, but it could help fill the gaps here.

Mission Statement/Read this First! Draft thread. (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,5635.0.html)
