Title: Incarnate Tsoo
Post by: GuyPerfect on March 08, 2012, 08:57:42 PM
Issue 22 brought new Tsoos with it, and all of them are slightly different from the old ones. They're technically a new enemy group in their own right, but that wouldn't stop me from incorporating entities into the Tsoo article:

http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Tsoo

What is stopping me is that... like, they're just different enough that I'm not sure the best way to handle it? I've prepared a list of entities and powers, but exactly what to do on the wiki (new article maybe?) is up for discussion:

Subpage of "Tsoo" for "Incarnate" ala Arachnos (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Arachnos#Subgroups)?

A subgroup may work (sorry if this topic has been dealt with).

In theory, is this the same issue as when low level mobs from somewhere (say Going Rogue Praetoria) get 'the treatment' by the devs and expand into the higher level mob-space?

I am not a huge fan of the subgroup system used on the Arachnos and Council pages, as spawns have mixes of all the subgroups, making it harder for me to track them down if I was looking. It works, however clunkily, and is neat, however. So no huge objection.

Given there is a difference in powers attributed to the two versions of the tsoo with same names;  I'd like to see the Tsoo clearly labelled that they are the high level (or lo level) Tsoo, so no matter how they are found in the wiki, it's clear which is which? (i.e. by searching, which does not always bring up a parent page).

This label for any duplicated mob name, should be part of the description for that mob, perhaps. A simple template thing or a standard bit for each?

For example, Tsoo Classic 'Dragon Blue Ink Man', for example, has thunder Kick and Siphon speed, Dragon Blue Ink Man' Mk II does not.

(aside: The new Tsoo are equally as misogynistic as the old ("masters of using an opponent's strengths against him"). Was hoping the devs would stop doing that.)

He/Him was originally gender neurtral in the English language, before all the damned political correctness (and other things) came along.

And English *still* doesn't have any gender-neutral pronouns. "Their" is incorrect because it's plural, so you're supposed to say "his" (-:

*All* pronouns in English are gender-neutral *except for* he/him/his/she/her/her.  :P

I presume you meant gender-neutral singular personal (other than 'who' and 'one'). Which is incorrect also. 'Singular they/them/their' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singular_they) has *always* been in common usage in English. The 19th century prescriptivist grammarians tried to force English to conform to the grammar of Latin, and thus they demanded strict agreement in number declaring 'singular they', though in common usage, was incorrect (despite the fact 'you' is also both plural and singular).

These are the same grammarians who gave us such other principles, such as 'to never split infinitives' or 'never end sentences with a preposition' or 'never begin a sentence with a conjunction'; all of which are now widely regarded as just bad rules.

The style editor for The NY Times has been very strict against allowing for 'singular they' up until recently in which he admitted that that will eventually change.

The advent of the modern technological ability to search near all of written English has demonstrated just how very frequently 'singular they' gets used that a prescriptivist can no longer mount a valid case that it's 'wrong.'

And if you disagree, well, to each their own.

such as 'to never split infinitives'

I see what you did there...

I thought that one was clever too. (-:

On Topic, I think that the Level, or the like could be used.  Then we need to make a little logo for the link similar to the ones used on the Arachnos sub-pages.  It might also interest you that I have made seperate Enemy Link templates that can be updated to link direct to the Incarnate subpage.  Enemy Incarnate Tsoo for example.

And if you disagree, well, to each his/her own.
Fixed. :P

Thirty7 (aside: great wikipedia entry!): I think that the Level, or the like could be used.

How about "Tsoo/Dark Astoria Tsoo" or "Tsoo/Incarnate Tsoo" ?

Both would be correct and accurate given Hua Tov's explanation, below ('same power as you' equates to Incarnate, and/or he specifies these Tsoo as restricted or based in DA)

Personal preference to not use "Tsoo/Incarnate Level", as the term 'level' is a loaded and stretched one in some ways.

Hua Tov (Heather Townshend Part 3) explains it thus: "The Tsoo in Dark Astoria are not petty criminals. We are the ones who have fought tirelessly over the years to fight the darkness that consumes this city. You do not know how to fight the darkness, and thus will only bring chaos to our plans.  ...The Tsoo who have been fighting in Dark Astoria have become very powerful over the years. We have unlocked the secrets of our ink, allowing us to tap into the same power that you have.

"Tsoo" would be better than "/Dark Astoria Tsoo" to my eye, simply because those NPCs could easily be used by the Devs elsewhere at some point... meaning the designation would suddenly have little meaning.  You are right "Level" does carry a bunch of unnecessary meaning.

Okay, this has been on a few days - I reckon 'Incarnate Tsoo' will work well!

Dooo eeet! <grin>

>which

I meant this part of the 37 (number) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/37_%28number%29), 37 is kinda special y'know! "It is a prime number, the fifth lucky prime, the first irregular prime, the third unique prime and the third cuban prime of the form ... It is a centered hexagonal number and a star number.  ..." and lots more wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey stuff
