Title: computer upgrades
Post by: LKN-351 on April 19, 2010, 10:46:40 PM
im assuming im just screwed on my current computer with the UM graphics upgrades. that blows, but maybe im just uninformed. i can put a comp together no problem but i dont know the detailed technical stuff.

currently im running a AMD athelon x64 +3700 @2.2Ghz, 2 Gb (4x512 sticks) of ddr 400 ram, and a nvidia gforce 7600 GT on a pci express x16 slot.

i did a bit of lookin around on newegg and if i want to change to 3 or 4 gigs of ram using more ram per stick its going to be more expensive than the newer ram and to upgrade my gfx card ill have to use a card from some manufacturer ive never heard of and have no idea how itll do for UM. currently my comp runs coh really good but im guessing after UM hits live ill be back to just seeing it all at low rez.

anyone have any input?
id post on the official forums but i dont have the available time to put into the game so i didnt re-sub to it. (i still think its sorta silly you cant post if you didnt pay)

Your entire rig is in need of an overhaul.

the AMD athelon gets the job done, but not as well as an ultra or a phenom. The Ram is severely out of date. That "400" is the bus speed measured by megahertz (Mhz). These days a stock computer has between 800 and 1200 mhz on their ram, and are usually packing DDR2 or 3.  The GFX will give you less than optimal game play for any game that utilizes free-roam mechanics.

You will need to at least an upgrade to your GFX... a 9800 GT or GTX (1GB DDR3 or better) should give you the entry-level quality of UM, and if you have less than a 400 Watt power supply, I would suggest upgrading that as well.

Honestly if you can afford it, I'd just do up a whole new rig.

on the current graphics in the game the only time i really have any issue is when a team of 8 is battling it out with the normal sized mobs and of course up the hill on the 2nd to last mission of the ITF and i run just a bit under the high graphics settings pre-UM.

honestly the only things i do on my comp is surf the net and play coh so im not worried about a blow your mind super speedy computer, i just want it to run coh at higher gfx settings.
