Honestly, it sounds very cool.  I hope they can pull it off successfully.  I just hope that they can balance giving us lots of options in mission design while not making it farmapalooza.

I also hope that, unlike a lot of other good ideas that have gone by the wayside (City Vault, CoH comic book, villain backgrounders, the Paragon Times, the fansite portal, etc. ad nauseum), that they actually follow through with taking the best arcs and making them part of the game officially.

I've been saying literally for years that user-generated content is the way to go, the Next Big Thing in MMORPGs.  I was extremely disappointed when Jack Emmert said that he didn't see it happening in City of Heroes, and I'm glad that the idea was resurrected.  I think that they have stumbled onto something that will make some big waves in the MMORPG market, if it is done well.

The devs have recently displayed a sharp distaste for any form of farming. With things like the popular maps being put on timers, the new risk-v-reward sliding scale on the Family farm, etc. they have attempted to make a statement about it. I hope everyone reads Positron's letter, though. He makes some statements concerning the mission creator and the new merit system that should calm the Farm-Phobia in anyone.

There's one statement he makes that annoys me slightly, but I think his strategic use of quotes is more for political correctness than it is to deny a certain significant issue that exists in the current game. The devs have recently been much more open about their feelings toward certain things in the game - notably Castle and BAB. I'd like to see that trend continue. It actually needs to continue with the new systems coming.

Moral of this post: If you're reading this, please make sure you read Positron's letter. It's a good bit meatier than the Feature Update.

Here is a cleaned transcript from the weekend's Q&A on Test with Joe 'Hero 1' Morrissey on the Mission Architect. For those of us that couldn't attend the presentation made at PAX today, this gives us a few of the details that were revealed there. If a transcript of the presentation pops up somewhere, I'll post that here we well. For now, here are some answers to a few of the questions we've had about the Mission Architect from my log of the Q&A on Test...not much to go on, but still more than we had.
