Title: Supergirl Season 4
Post by: MyriVerse on November 27, 2018, 02:41:42 PM
Wow! 7 eps into the season and still no thread.

This latest one (Rather the Fallen Angel) might be the morally darkest episode yet. Is this Arrow or Supergirl?
Spoiler for Hidden:
Manchester Black has probably killed more people in just a few eps than the rest of the series combined.
Jimmy Olsen selling out to Nazis, even if briefly.
Lena grows darker.

I didn't even quite finish season 3.  That story arc put me off.  It wasn't quite Lana-witch levels of off-putting but it made me lose all watching momentum before the end.

I really don't have anything to say about it...um...it's not as bad as Flash this year?

I've been enjoying the series this season even if the message is just a lot ham fisted and about as subtle as a kick to the crotch.

There really isn't a subtle way to do the story, imo.

But did find it interesting how they developed the Big Bad's history, going from mild-mannered guy to... well, Hitler.

At least Agent Liberty's life was negatively affected by space aliens.

I looked into finishing season 3 today, and I was reminded what straw broke the proverbial camel's back - and it's not even apparently related to the major plot.  It was Jackie from Roseanne.  I see her in the next episode I have to watch and my mind screams NO.  Also, I thought I was just a few episodes from the end, but that's like 7 to go.  Sheesh.

Aw. I loved that was one of the better S3 episodes.

The Monitor looks a bit goofy to me.

No other way he can look, really.

The Anti-Monitor would be way sillier.

The JW Shipp Flash was a nice touch. But comically huge book macguffin, no.

They used the exact same scene at the end of Arrow btw if that can help any of you to avoid having to watch its otherwise unrelated episode. I was expecting Lyla to get snatched up to become Harbinger as its tag scene but nope.

He might look less goofy if he were supersized or translucent.

And it is quite Amazing how none of the "Woke Good Guys" will stop being jerks long enough to maybe understand how the transformation happened, including the Psychic who mind read the Murderous Alien because "he has to have a good side."

Ok even for the CW that was a ridiculous plot.

Really good plot. No DC series has been as good as Supergirl has been this season, imo.

Spoiler for Hidden:
A discharge from defibrillating red kara jumps across the Pacific to land in some drugs. The drugs cause temporary rage aliens. The dealers then drive out to the boonies based on an offer from strangers to buy the remainder to use at the alien tolerance festival Kara just happens to be driving to because supporting her narcoleptic friend as she tells her family she got their inherited super powers is more important than whatever lives she would have saved over the weekend. The dealers' sister takes the last pill to avenge her family after the pills are unsurprisingly stolen and is almost killed by Alex because the only reason she's been a tolerant person is that her sister was an alien.

There's no part of that that isn't ridiculous. It's like they had the story about the festival but then remembered they hadn't tied in red kara or the hate group in a while and just decided to glom that on in the most absurd way possible.

I see it as brilliant that the stories came together in that way in a thoroughly typical superhero fashion. Plus the bond forming between Kara and Nia.

We already know that electricity does weird things when contacting Kryptonians. It's how Livewire was born.

Now... where did those other bolts go? Hmm...

The Kara/Nia interaction was decent.  The rest was just silly and did indeed seem as though they were just shoehorning in the overarching season plots. Even I couldn't come up with a semi-logical reason why things happened.

That last episode was actually pretty good.

This whole season has been great, imo. Only way it could be better is if Cat were back.

Two in a row. How sad is it that freaking Ducky is a better Lex than the academy award nominee and winner they had playing him the last two times in big budget movies?

If you asked me who I thought should be the next person to play Lex Luthor, I certainly never would have thought to mention Jon Cryer.  I'm quite surprised with how well he seems to be pulling off the character, though.

Well he did play Lex's nephew so I guess he got some practice.

Yeah, I admit I didn't think it would work and damn they sure showed me.

I wasn't really surprised, but I don't know why I wasn't surprised. I don't recall Cryer ever playing a role like this (closest, I think, was voicing Faust in recent Justice League toons). I guess I just had faith in his acting abilities. I think he's very underrated.

While I can find the politicalness of the writing in supergirl to be groan inducing in a billion ways, it is light years better than the writing in the Live Action DC stuff. Good Writing can elevate a bad actor to something great, and completely torpedo a good one.

I'm very late to this game, but I just got to the Lex episode and pretty much had this reaction.  Just replace "Jon Cryer" with "that guy from that sitcom".  And I love that he's paired up with Otis and Miss Tessmacher.  Enjoying this season more than last for sure.
