That's a shame. I've never played either game, but it's my understanding they've been around since forever. For the sake of their fans, I hope no more Turbine-produced games fall casualty to the turmoil enveloping that company.

Years ago my friends convinced me to try MMOs. They got me in to EQ beta which I started avidly playing and then one of them basically gave me his access to AC beta. I played both games for a while, but I was a MUD freak back then and EQ was basically a simple MUD with pictures. I was hooked. Even though I did some testing and had a sub for a few months after launch I never really gave AC a real chance. I stuck with EQ instead before moving on to other games. I've thought more than once that I chose poorly.

That's unfortunate.  If memory serves, the sequel was originally closed around '05 or so and brought back about four years ago, but the original game's servers have remained up since launch in the late 90s.

I'm happy that with Turbine shifting focus to mobile apps they let the DDO and LOTRO teams split off and take those games with them, but I suppose with AC only in maintenance mode, there wasn't really anyone to pick that one up.  Still, it does seem to suggest that if someone wants to take over and makes a decent offer, Turbine might be willing to part with the game.

At any rate, I certainly feel sympathy for the die-hard AC fans.
