First, I set up my question with several assumptions. 1) CoX returns, whether in maintenance mode or some other state. 2) None of our character data is available, whether due to erasure, being lost in some warehouse, incomplete, or what have you, such that everyone is forced to start from scratch. 3) As compensation for lost data, in some manner we all have access to all costume packs, emotes, ATs, Vet rewards and just about anything else, whether we pay a one-time price or have it handed to us. 4) Issue 24 is pushed live, even if CoX is in maintenance mode.
All that said, you're at square one. What character would you choose to create/recreate first? One of your old favorites? A new powerset that you've been wanting to try? When replying, please give a little detail. Details might include AT, powersets, whether you preferred playing this character Red, Blue or Gold, did you mostly solo or team with this character, and what do you think made playing this character the most fun for you?
As for myself, I'm torn. The first character I stuck with (may or may not have been my first 50) was an NRG/NRG Blaster. Soloing was lots of fun as the KB kept me relatively safe without screwing up teammates' fun. The look of (most of) the NRG blasts always made me smile with how powerful they seemed to be to me. With the I24 changes, I can see myself rerolling this character, with improvements, and going to town.
The other character I believe I had the most fun with (although the cluster of alts that could fit this definition was rather densely packed) was a Katana/ Scrapper. I think the secondary was /SR, but might be misremembering, and might change it anyway, dunno. Loved the chopping, slicing, spinning animations, as well as the mowin' 'em down aspect, all while being much safer than the Glass Cannon blasters. I wonder how changing the AT from Scrapper to Brute might change that character's gameplay/progression. I look forward to trying it out.
So. Now it's your turn. I daresay no one on these boards or reading this post doesn't have a favorite character. Let's hear about yours, especially what was great about them. I need ever more alt ideas! 8)

I'd love to have my WS back, but if I had to unlock the epics again, I'd like to try bio or rad armors. I'd also like to try rad/kin corruptor. I loved my stone/fire tank (first toon and first 50), but don't think I'd run that back to 50 as my first project.

I think It'd be a mashup between either the very first character I ever created all the way back at launch; an electricity/electricity blaster called Malfunction.....Or perhaps a recreation of some of my "lost" characters. Lost in this instance refering to old characters who i remember a single aspect of and a small portion of time playing as them, but that I can't remember in their entirety.

It would be my main from the old game a fire/fire blaster, than I would start remaking some of my old cox characters and remake a few of my champions characters :)

I would recreate my elec/elec blaster. She was the very first character I built and had a long RP history in the game. I'm looking forward to expanding the circle of characters she interacts with and growing her story even more.

I really, really want my Peacebringer back. She was to be the latest incarnation of a toon after RP reasons made that so her powers would be realigned (original form had been elec/elec blaster, conversion to an elec/elec brute, so it seemed a logical place inbetween) and I got her to 50 in preparation for the storyline, up to +3... but I was going to IO her out and use her more heavily once plot hit.
Unfortunately most of my SG kinda stopped logging in, and I'd planned for that to happen in the following February anyway, so that never happened. I'd always wanted to like PB, but had never gotten one into the 30s where they really start to shine.
Humanform PBs were really fun. I wouldn't want to be constantly exemplared down to lower levels on one, but there was a flexibility I really enjoyed. Some soft control, healing, survivability, damage... It really felt exciting to play. The new set stuff probably means I'd be able to fit a little more mez protection on there too - and that sounds REALLY awesome.

Do we get to choose obviously not ready sets like Wind? If so, it might be a Wind/Martial Dom.
If not, probably a NA/DP or DP/NA, not sure which.

I'd probably do an ff/ice blast defender. ice was always nice on the blaster and ff had its uses both in team and solo. I've seen some well built bubble defs that could hold their own in a solo fight.

Thugs/Dark and Bots or Demon/Storm MM's will probably be first. I can replicate the feel of other AT's with other games, but never have I experienced anything similar to a MM. Now that could easily be due to lack of MMO exposure. I have a feeling I'll be a raging altaholic though >.> I want an ice/rad corruptor, some type of scrapper/brute... Someone please open a hotline, I'm already second guessing my choices.

Hard question. Trying to pick between one of my favorite 5 Controllers or 2 Masterminds. Maybe the Fire/Kin so I could get the others rolling quicker after that.

I have not decided I know for sure I will have about 5 scrappers created and level them all up and get them IO'd to the gills like several of my others. I been goign through mids like crazy making builds and still have not settled on everything.
Do I want to make another scrapper with fire I had a fire/sd at 50 and soloed a lot of av's with him and got a fire/reg to 35; I know I will make a shield scrapper but which one I am leaning towards a dm/sd because despite lacking aoe I love me so dark melee I did have a dm/sr and a dm/da previously. That has me leaning dm/sd with shield charge and spring attack looks like fun plus it should be fun soloing av's with an attack that heals 8)
I love dual blades I had a db/ea and db/elec I hated elec loved EA but I am thinking making him a db/inv this time
Bio armor never got to play I was pumped I was ready to spend some extra money and then the announcement :'( I am still debating ma/ba fire/ba with an outlier of spines/ba
The ea had a db/ea my first toon was katana/sr I am torn between spines/ea or katana/ea
then finally will power not got one to 50 I got like two of them in the 30's in the past. I am looking at maybe war mace/wp
I love scrappers and used a lot of the secondaries but my last two scrappers where /sd and /EA and after playing a scrapper with a taunt aura it is just hard to play a secondary with out one just made my play so much more enjoyable but I am looking at provoke since they buffed it which may make me rethink some of the older sets like /sr etc
Right now that is where I am looking all subject to change as I continue to poor over mids and calculate numbers as I read through the scrapper web archives to review some of the stuff I forgot about and wrap my head around ppm change to procs
I think my head is going to exploded if we get this game back

Assuming I could get my name back, which might be difficult, it would be my Inv/SS tanker.
I'd be disappointed not to get my name, but not shocked.
Other than that, three others would take priority - my Plant/Storm troller, MA/Shield Scrap, and SS/Fire Brute.

Tips on PL..
make a toon that kills fast..
find good xp mobs that die fast.. preferably on an easy to navigate map.
Set difficulty to medium.. not too easy.. not to hard..
rinse and repeat

Brawl/? Brute.
I've done the WP version. I would toy with the idea of making one with Fire or Rad or Dark or? But the beauty of Brawling Humiliator being a Brawl/WP brute was that because Brawl was set on Auto, you basically 'set him and forget him.' As in you target the enemy, hit 'follow', and then sit back and wait. When that guy is done, target the next, follow, and wait. Repeat. Not a lot of management except the occasional firing off (after he got it) of Strength of Will, or the occasional inspiration. Maybe he'd get hit with a quick mezz that turned off Rise to the Challenge, so he'd have to have that put back on.
That's it. I then just chatted and watched to be sure he didn't get in trouble/didn't need moving to the next mob, 'cause Rage, y'know. :)
So yeah. Brawler is a must. Have to do it.

Past that I don't really know. The Dawn Sisters are a must. As is my Claws/WP scrapper. And the only blaster I liked, the Water/Ice one. Of course, it'd be a hoot to see if I could recreate the absolutely dependent Defender, the one that could not solo to save her ass, but would be the most helpful teammate evar. I'm not sure I'd use rad/ICE again. Probably pick something even worse for her offense, if possible, and something better for her team help stuff, if possible.
However, I do know my overall main is the SS/WP brute, so after I do BH again, he'd be next up for sure.
And then, after those (which were all 50s+).... Hm. I dunno.
Guess we'll find out. I hope.

I have a list too... All remakes...
1. Energy/Enery blaster. My 1st toon from when I first logged in in 2004.
2. Fire/Storm controller. Hands down my favourite ball of chaos.
3. BS/Shield scrapper or my Invul/SJ tank. Both were a ton of melee fun and stupidly tough.
4. Energy/Kin corruptor. Just so much fun.
5. The experiment that dies when the shutdown occurred... My Storm/Energy defender.
Those top three though will take most of my time for the first year I reckon.

It would depend on if we were to get the game back including i24. If we did it would have to be and energy/martial blaster.
Then I have to recreate Rodney Royce, my staff/invuln scrapper, and Del Mansfield, street justice (or maybe elec or kinetic)/regen.
I would make so many! The blaster, Safehouse, has to come first though!

Energy/Energy blaster (for soloing) and maybe one of the other proliferated blaster power sets I'd never tried, like rad, for teaming.

My first new character would be whatever I could level up quickly so I could unlock VEATs and get my Crab Spider back.

I'd feel obligated to recreate my namesake first (Elec/Dev Blaster,) followed by rapidly recreating as many of my old characters as I had open slots for.
Then buying more slots for the others.
Then buying slots for the roughly dozen and a half new characters I've had parked in mids/Icon since shutdown just waiting for a chance to party...

Interesting how many of us rolled an En/En Blaster as our first toon.
Wish it was my 20th toon though...I had no clue what I was doing and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as subsequent characters. Got him to 50 and still rarely played him. :(

I would MAKE all my mains so I got their names:
Fire/Time Corruptor (This would actually be my first 50)
Fire/Fire/ Brute (My AE farmer)
Earth/Kin Troller (My farmer)
Then:
Earth/Psi Dominator
Water/Dark Corruptor
Elect/Elect Scrapper
Fire/Fire Scrapper
War Mace/Inv Brute
Empathy/Fire Defender
Mind/Empathy Controller

This is the biggest caveat for me. I think it's not likely. They can either go with a proven and stable I23 version, or a version that never went live and is guaranteed to require a lot more maintenance.
Overall I've pretty much decided on a SS/Fire brute. If we start with nothing, influence will once again be a very important commodity. I think it'll be important for your first toon to be a powerhouse, so he'll be able to "finance" all your next toons. And I can't think of a better powerhouse toon. My main in the old game was a Fire/SS tank. He was godlike, and I think a brute would be even better overall.
But if we really do get I24, I may just have to go with a remake of my Fire/EM blaster. I24 made him into probably the most fun toon in my arsenal.

I'll make my Bio Armor/Kinetic Melee Tank for my first new character. But, I don't know what server I want to put him in Virtue or Freedom. My main server is Freedom but, sometimes I play on Virtue. I'm still debating what I'm gonna do. Can somebody help me decide?

I'm considering a stone/ss Tank, a Street Justice/wp brute(already ran one to 50 and beyond) , a dual pistol/ mental manipulation blaster( because I was challenged to it) and a fire/dark corrupter. Then Ill go full blown altaholic.

Assuming we get the entire game back (with CoV and Going Rouge), I would first make my Dual Pistols/Devices Blaster and my Robotics/Pain Dom MM.
I would then play from there

I think I'll go in this order:
Street Justice / Willpower scrapper
Thugs / Traps MM (Oh Gang War, how I miss you)
Dual Blade / Nin stalker
A Widow, once I get access to them
Dark Melee / Willpower brute
Water / Ice blaster
Dark / Dark corrupter
And that's for starters. I'd most likely roll toon after toon after toon!

What Supermax said echoes my thoughts exactly. My first toon will be something that can bankroll all of the other toons that I make later. I've farmed with both an SS/Fire Brute and an Elec/Fire Brute before. While the SS/Fire may have been slightly faster, I enjoyed using the Elec/Fire more mainly due to Lightning Rod. Loved using it whenever it was up, and I don't think I'll ever get tired of its animation. :D

Yeah, I had an elec/elec scrapper, and I think LR was pretty much the most rewarding power in the game. Just felt so awesome each and every time. :)

It (was) my CoX launch icon for Object Dock back when I had both CoH and ObjectDock. I think I have other icons in a similar vein (circular for a dock) so if you want 'em, drop me a PM with your email address.

Yet I will recreate a couple of toons that were favs as well as one toon who represented a memorial of a friend who passed away. I made a toon that exemplified his qualities and played him quite often as a rememberance.
His wife who also played, was quite touched.

An addendum.
I will be creating two accounts, one primarily for myself and one for my wife and son. I'll try to reserve the names for my wife's favorite toons and try to level them some on the side.
However, my son is a HUGE Iron Man fan. I'll be making 'Metal Guy' or something similar, deck him out in gold and fire engine red, and have an Energy/Devices blaster going to town on Paragon villains!

My very first new character will be my very first old one. It was a mind/kin controller. Useless in the beginning, but awsome by 38-50 and beyond :)

Defenders and corrupters are like totally awesome. They can really break things if done right. for example one of my first chars will be a defender that should be able to easily go past the effective resistance numbers of any tank.
But if I were you and wanted a pain dom, I would make him a MM. You get all sorts of powers in Pain that are very useful for pets.
and officially, my first two chars will be a Nature Affinity/Dual Pistol/Mu Defender (I was just talking about) and a Kinetic/Bio Armor/Leviathan brute (which will be mostly a ranged character).

Defenders and corrupters are like totally awesome. They can really break things if done right. for example one of my first chars will be a defender that should be able to easily go past the effective resistance numbers of any tank.
But if I were you and wanted a pain dom, I would make him a MM. You get all sorts of powers in Pain that are very useful for pets.
and officially, my first two chars will be a Nature Affinity/Dual Pistol/Mu Defender (I was just talking about) and a Kinetic/Bio Armor/Leviathan brute (which will be mostly a ranged character).
As someone who loved Mu and Kinetic, both of your choices look pretty great to me! Now, I'm thinking a kinetic/regen/mu scrapper. Just for funsies. And I'll definitely look closer into defenders/corruptors. They deserve a fair chance.
So what are your thoughts on demons/pain? It sounds very "hellish overlord" haha.

Heh, as it turns out, I'd already started working on a table of potential new characters (whipped up in Icon) on my paragonwiki (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/User:Pmoyer) page, right below my one-and-only level 50 character. :)
As it stands, though, I'd probably rebuild my main Katana/Willpower scrapper (if nothing else, to grab her "Hero Name" to serve as my proper global chat handle ^_-; ), but then after that, so ... many... choices... *.*

Yeah, I'll definitely have to explore it a bit. Do some research, etc. Since it would be my first mastermind that I'm actually excited about making, and can actually play, I want to do it well!

I suspect many, like myself, would be purchasing additional character slots to recreate many of their original characters initially (that name grab will be brutal). I can see myself playing up 1 of these 4 characters --
An SoA Huntsman, assuming available in the beginning, because that was a satisfying character, particularly when enhanced
A Titan Weapons/Will Power brute for fun
fire/fire/fire blaster, again for fun
But most likely a Katana, REgen scrapper -- my initial farmer -- because, besides being fun, helped make the rest go zoom.....the first level 50 makes a world of difference for every other character.

Epic ATs can be unlocked at level 20, so I'd consider it. PBs had their QoL improvements a few issues before the last release. I'd find some awesome, low-level uber build that could farm mobs (fire armor brute, etc.).
Ugh, wait... there's NO loot and NO money hanging out in Wentworths or in SG storage on a re-start... wow. IOs would be more valuable than diamonds. I'd wait on the PB or a fire armor toon.
I'd go blaster first. My main would come back (it as an elec/nrg/elec blaster), but it'd be hard not to go triple electric. Energy punch, boost range and power boost are hard to let go of though.
My main bank of toons were:

elec/elec brute (I power leveled myself off near-invulnerability vs. Rikti and Issue 6 Rikti Portal experience; I'd have to legit earn it's levels now! Go Go Energize!)

Wow, shows how long I've been out of the loop. I forgot about Architect tickets and merits. A few weeks and most would have working farm builds with friends buffing for certain maps/missions. Wow, shows how long I've been out of the loop. I forgot about Architect tickets and merits. A few weeks and most would have working farm builds with friends buffing for certain maps/missions. My initial thought was to recreate my original sr/claw scrapper, but I may wanna go with a farm toon. Without all of our old stuff, there will be a lot of influence hungry mouths to feed. Of course, with a market restart, a few lucky drops could set up a toon or two nicely.

BootstrapMan. Strange Brute from another world, with Claws and Fire powers far superior to mortal man, and able to farm huge piles of influence and architect tickets with a single login, on a mission of mercy to costume the naked, house the baseless, and purple the purpleless. Starting with characters two, three, and four.
Actually, farming tends to bore me. I'll probably buy two accounts and dualbox farm while I'm asleep, and recreate and level my first three alts from scratch. Even in I23, I was still leveling alts conventionally with no twinking and no influence transfers, because that's what I always did except for a couple alts I built specifically to test things I had little intention of playing normally.
Once they hit fifty, of course, the gloves come off. I'll stick a hundred billion worth of enhancements into a character if it will make her a rampaging beast. But only after she dings 50.
It would be interesting to relevel my first three alts under I23 rules. En/En blaster, Ill/Rad controller, and MA/SR scrapper. I would probably try to reroll those first.

I think I would first have to make sure I get my usual set of characters set up, THEN focus on leveling. First one to 50 would probably be my Widow, since that was my first 50 before. After that, would be my Dark/Dark Corruptor, Ice/Ice Blaster, Archery/Mental Manipulation Blaster, and maybe either my Titan Weapon/Invulnerability Brute or Staff Melee/Dark Armor Scrapper. Could solo farm on the Widow, so would probably do that again to cover costs of outfitting the rest.

While I'd create my original badge hunter and helper characters, I think I'd set up to run another fire/rad controller superteam like we used to on freedom. Return of the FRADS superteams! Race to 50 in just two weeks like before.
After that, it would be my badger: EN/EN blaster. I will have to dig around to find my screenshots of the enhancements. Once IO's start becoming a reality again, I'll remake him as a super-reflexes blaster. My positional defenses were so high on him, that it was like a superreflexes scrapper with all defenses on max. My badger usually outlasted all my teammates on AV fights.
I am tempted to make some sort of character as a praetorian and run him all the way to 40 just in praetorian zones.

This question is too hard at this hour.
My first inclination is to go ice/ice blaster. That was my main. But, my fire/mental blaster was a real hoot. A great deal of fun. With IOs, that character could farm a Dreck's map as fast or faster than my brute - with a little more prodigious use of inspirations, mind you. Hard to say whether it was because the blaster was that good or the brute was that slow. <shrug>
Still, it was a lot of fun to play.
But ice is so...compelling. @Olepi turned me on to ice with his amazing guide. But, I think somewhere down the line, the numbers changed. I'd read that fire blasters did more damage than ice blasters - which was really hard for me to believe since I'd played both and found the ice to be superior.
I may go ice/mental/ and go redside to pick up scorpion shield, whatever mastery that is. Mace, I think.
I may do all three. As for background stories and what-not, I won't even fuss about them until I know I'm keeping them. I'll make something amusing up.
If it is indeed issue 23, I'll make a fire/SS brute called The Emancipist. I read the book by the same name by Victoria Sweeney and really like that character, and it would be modeled in part, after the protaganist in that book.

Dark days indeed when any CoH player steps into WoW. :)
But seriously, I was just impressed with how well it actually fit together power and IO wise. I would have it as a higher priority if the I24 blaster changes were a part of all this, but without it it's just very interesting.
As it is, I've got a couple NA characters waiting to be born.

Yep. more changes than you could shake a stick at for everyone in I24.
Sorta made me nervous. The game was already pretty easy and adding all the stuff they had in mind... not sure if it wouldn't have been breaking the game outside of Incarnate stuff. I'm pretty sure the future would have had to have been about adding difficulty to the under 50 crowd.

I would probably suffer from intense altaholicism at first as so many old favorites would be clawing inside my mind to be reborn. In the end, it would be a toss up between my ice/ice Blaster or dark/dark Corr. I'm leaning more towards the Corr since he was my first 50 and, in the end, was a blast to play, soloing some heavy hitters.
In the end though, I imagine whatever slots I have will be filled up real fast.

I have written so many superhero bios due to years of table-top rpgs, I just can't seem to stop making alts.

Wish it was my 20th toon though...I had no clue what I was doing and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as subsequent characters. Got him to 50 and still rarely played him. :(

Almost everyone I knew loved Energy Torrent or Sniping Bosses from a distance and running in Issue 0 (watched folks play it at a LAN center the year before I got my own gaming PC in May 2005).
Sadly, my experience with Energy Blast was a Kinetic Corruptor in CoV. I went Eng due to borked ragdoll (that was fixed a few weeks into the release) and Kinetics due to the impact of ED on 6-slot Stamina, hasten and damage (Speed Boost and Fulcrum Shift). Infinity Server villain side felt sparse or my tolerance for pugs was gone - so I soloed often and was fast-moving corpse for most of my 30+ game.

The first character I created in a full start-from-clean-wipe restart of the game would have to be Pakfront (see icon), the Assault Rifle/Energy Melee Blaster that was the first character I created back on May 8, 2004. And then as many of the rest of the characters I'd saved from Guardian as I could.
