Saw this via paragon Wiki in the tweets section: Matt "Positron" Miller is selling a bunch of costume code cards that he found: http://www.ebay.com/itm/City-of-Heroes-Costume-Cards-lot-from-the-collection-of-Matt-Positron-Miller-/331234455213?
I was thinking about mentioning this but decided against drawing too much attention to it.
Although now that I've been outbid I don't mind. :innocentwhistle:

A hahahaha! I'm not bidding, and I saw that it hadn't been mentioned here, so I thought I'd post. Although there's the same amount of bids as yesterday (but a higher price), so I guess not too many people from these boards are interested.
this is definitely the pessimist in me talking, but the fact that he had a box of these just sitting around may speak to a fundamental failure in publicity and meatosphere interaction that could have saved the game two years before it went onto the chopping block. :-\

That was one thing that always bugged me about the "marketing" department... They never really seemed to do too much marketing, and generating attention for the game to new players had always been a weaker point to the game...
I recall comments from... maybe Black Scorpion? noting that NCSoft hadn't given them any sort of marketing budget, so there is that.
As for the cards, it's possible they were from a giant pile of convention stuff that Positron grabbed when he left, or something like that.
I'd have been tempted to maybe pay $20-$25.00 for an autographed one, but I can't see spending money for the whole box.

There are other signs of failure, but it's normal to have a ton of small con swag left over. Especially for the more esoteric items such as Costume Code cards. Shirts, and more bulky items are usually the first to run out. But anything on paper, or plastic cards, tends to outlast civilizations.
I was more concerned that him having several auctions open right now might mean that his Cryptic job may not be paying the bills as well as his Paragon job did. I hope that's not the case.
Or perhaps he's just getting rid of old stuff he has no use for anymore.

more likely this. before ebay it would have been a garage sale

I'm on the "getting rid of stuff" side of things, but if you're right, he's going to have to sell a LOT more than these cards - the highest bid isn't even $300.
...Although I'm sort of surprised it's as high as it is. I wonder if the buyer will store it, or sell a bunch of the cards individually for a profit.
I was given a stack of cards to hand out to people at conventions, fan gatherings, cons, etc. This is what remains.
As for me having several auctions open right now means that I am in the process of "pairing down" the amount of sheer stuff I have in my life (to make room for all new stuff!).
The Tau Army that's up for sale is a co-worker's who doesn't eBay. It's not my Tau Army (my Tau will never leave my possession).
There will be other auctions in the future. And maybe even some City of Heroes stuff that I have laying around.
EDIT: If you're curious, this is ALL my costume code cards. There won't be another auction from me about costume code cards. (As you may have noticed, I found some more and added them to the auction mid-week).
Okay, I didn't really think so. But I'm a worrier by nature, and things like that pop into my head :)
The bum even ebayed the Flowbee I lovingly expensed for him.
I wouldn't read anything into this other than OMG I have way too much stuff. I recently gave away a Klingon Phaser replica from the Franklin Mint. Also a bunch of cloisonne pins from the Original Series for this very reason.
At some point you just want to simplify your life. All that stuff went to someone who really will appreciate it and I don't have to dust it or sort it or move it. I would have auctioned it, but I would rather have the time than the money at this point.

...isn't that a disruptor?
Probably. You can see I wasn't invested in it. The person who I gave it to was. It went to a good home.
I really ought to do more of that so some poor bastard doesn't have so much crap to sort through when I quit it.

I was the auction winner. I collect paraphernalia from a few games, but am especially into "City of .." stuff, with an emphasis on Villain related items.
I hadn't considered selling any of them .. I just thought they'd make a fun & unusual addition to my CoX collection.
I asked Matt if he would sign 10 of them .. 9 of the sdcc/comiccon & the Villains time card.
The Villain card I wanted for myself (I didn't have one) .. I plan on giving away most of the other signed ones.
I have a facebook page devoted to my CoX stuff at : https://www.facebook.com/CityofVillains .. Just a page for fun, but it has a good number of 'collectable' CoX things many people haven't seen.
You know, if the game comes back those just might have real value.

That's a really cool page! You should upload the photos to the wiki - the merchandise page (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Official_Merchandise) doesn't have several of those items.

Thanks! I've still got more around I haven't posted pics of yet .. mostly Heroes related.
It's fun stuff to collect, they made some great promotional items for this game.
I love the full length Arachnos cape.. I've never seen it even mentioned online before.

I've got one of those capes. Won it at Gen Con. That was the year that the con happened right before the CoV beta. Most of them were given away with a golden ticket at Origins a few weeks prior. It was some contest, the golden ticket gave you a spot in closed beta. They had a few capes left so they gave them away as prizes during their comic book trivia contests.
Ahhh memories, I won a lot of COH swag that year. The cape, Statesman and Arachnos emblem t-shirts (won a few of these, gave them to my roomies), full set of the CoX hero clix figures. Several pre order CoV boxes(the ones that gave an invite to late beta) gave those away to random people, . And then think that's when I won copies on Guild Wars and Lineage. Yeah, in have a lot of random comic book knowledge rattling around me head
I just remember really wanting that Sister Psyche litho, but they didn't call on me for that one...

Sorry .. I had to have 'em though. I just got too big a laugh when I saw all those cards.
A few cards to fill in some blanks in the collection, sure. But over 100 cards at once?? When will I see that again...? Seemed like a must-have thing to me. :)
I was surprised how high the bidding went though. Didn't expect too many others to be collecting CoX stuff.

That's great! For a give-away promotional item, I thought they were pretty impressive. It's a heavy cape, & well made.
Just after CoV came out, I saw one for sale on eBay... it's description was lacking & so I thought it was a fan-made item. I didn't end up bidding .. It sold for $10.00 .
Years later I learned what it was, & kept my eyes open for one ever since. Was very happy to finally get one.

I have a cape, too. The one I wore at HeroCon no less.
I'll consider eBaying it if there is interest.
