I'm hoping this doesn't sound too odd.
My wife and I would team up and hunt a lot and we would find a certain area where the baddies would constantly respawn. We would stay there until our level exceeded the level of what we were battling and then we would go to higher level location. We would always go to the same locations, without fail, all the time. For both of us, it now feels like we were physically at those locations. We feel homesick for them. There are parts of IP and Brickstown that I remember like the back of my hand. Does this happen to anyone else?

Did this all of the time. Loved to just street fight. Always, felt like I was physically there. Best game ever! :)
Yeah. I've had dreams where I was running around some familiar zone, then I wake up and smile, then I remember the game is gone forever, then I feel like crap. I hate to say, but I'm kind of glad they come less frequently as time goes by.
I even had one dream where I sat down and had a heart-to-heart talk with FrostFire. Turns out he is from a broken home (well, it's the Hollows, so probably a broken street too), and got into drug dealing because his family was poor. He is just trying to get by, you know? And he has all these tights coming down on him all the time, like he doesn't have enough pressure from the Fire Imps always wanting more marshmallows, and they ain't cheap. Turns out he's really not that bad of a guy, once you understand where he's coming from.

I would bet this is true of a lot of people in the life. If you think about it, you could work 70 hours at McDonald's and just barely eek out an existence or sling rock for a few hours a week and make enough to pay rent and keep your family going.
I'm also sure that there are plenty of dead eyed people who just do whatever they feel like and the life caters to that as well. Those are the scary ones.
Of course hard to see that in the Council and 5th Column guys. They just seem like huge jerks.

Yep. I had a few spots where I'd do that when I was soloing.
The most notable one for me was the corner, up the hill to the right in Founder's Falls (when you enter from Talos).
It was easy to get to, off the beaten path, and CoT would spawn there all the time. That was a great place
to level up my early level 30-ish toons.
I also used to run along the War Wall in Brickstown from the Bridge up to the hospital and back.
For higher level toons, I use to like to run the repeatable missions in the Shadow Shard.
Hours of fun without having to see or talk to a soul - perfect for a soloist. :)

That porch in front of the Steel Canyon Hospital, the parking lot, the park across the street, the line of storefronts just East, and that little alleyway behind them -- I always spent my teens freeing Circle of Thorns victims and almost nothing else.
standing in kings row in front of the police HQ, waiting for a nemesis, sigil, or zombie event, cause it was usually the hottest spot in the game for public events.. flashbacks to running up the stairs to the PD drones when health got too low
Yeah, I was mostly a street sweeper so this is pretty familiar stuff to me too. I liked the missions themselves fine, but one too many of them sent me into +6 level neighborhoods and one day I just got fed up with it and started street sweeping. Turns out I really liked the ability to set my own pace and just bop around cleaning up the city. :)
I got it down to a regular path I'd take. At first I'd wander around Atlas till level 6 or 7 (once the new set of beginner arcs came out I'd do those instead of wandering though, they were actually pretty fun). From there I'd go to the Hollows until 11 or 12, then work my way up Steel Canyon until 19 or 20. Then it was on to Talos. Only a handful of alts ever made it past Talos though, I had altitis and kept trying to level about 40 characters at the same time, hehe. But the ones that did went through Talos until 27 or 28, then it was on to Indy Port until 30 or 31, Brickstown until 36 or 37, Founders until 39 or 40 (melee-ers chasing warwolves through the canals, flyers in the sky playing tag with the snipers ;D ), and then lastly I'd hit PI and make my way from the ferry to the Portal building. Occasionally I'd go somewhere different just for a change of pace, like Kings Row or Croatoa, but that was my regular route.
Every 2-3 level section had its own unique spots that I liked to patrol. I'd make my way there and run circuits around my favorite few places, enjoying the scenery and all the little details. I can still see some of those places in my head, clear as day.
If I get the chance to do it again, I think the only thing I'll do differently is I'll concentrate on leveling two or three characters at a time, rather than 40+. You don't see much progression trying to do everything at once like that.
PI...the "fake Nem" circuit. sooooooooo tedious. what I'd do to make that run right now. sigh.
