Island Rum for Icon is a complete installer, capable of setting up a complete working Titan Icon installation on your Mac, as well as self-updating shortly after a new version of either Island Rum or Icon come out:
Island Rum for Icon (http://ir.powermad.net/islandrum-mac.zip)
Note: The distribution system for its install files is still in testing, so be gentle with it for a while.
Hey, thanks so much for this! I carelessly deleted my Mac client, and I've been wishing I hadn't ... I'm downloading now via Island Rum, and so far so good! I appreciate the effort you've made in making this available, thanks again.
Hi Manga,
Thank you very much !!!
This is the first "successful" download of the game I have been able to get.
I also accidentally deleted my game client and regret it a lot.
The download took about 5 hours but the client comes up.
The weird thing is the screen only fills 1/4 of my screen but when I move my mouse around its expecting the buttons to be full screen so the visual screen I am seeing is off from the screen my mouse is seeing, lol.
I didn't see any options that I could go into to correct it (Display, Fullscreen) or anything like that.
Is there a way to fix that?
Ectokin
Use Cmd-Enter to put it in windowed mode and then change the display settings either to match your monitor (if you are switching back to full screen) or to make the window fit better.
OMG You are a GENIUS !
I LOVE YOU!
You have made me the happiest man alive!
I know we can only go to the tutorial (Outbreak) but is there anyway to make my toons fly?

How does the NPC mode differ from the other mode?
Is there a way to go to Atlas Park?
Did I mention I love you, LOL

We can change maps with the /loadmap command since Icon 1.5 (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,7288.0.html), there even is a popmenu for that (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,8910.0.html).

It's possible to fly, with the /fly command ( bound to "1" )
Quote from: Ectokin on February 15, 2014, 06:57:33 PMHow does the NPC mode differ from the other mode?
It gives you access to all costume parts including unlockable, cash-only and dev-only pieces.
Thanks Fifth Horsemen, I'll try them. :D
Ok I can get my toon to fly but I can't change maps. I tried the /loadmap command as well as the /loadmap_prompt but no matter the zone I put in nothing comes up. I tried Talos, talos, talos.txt and talos.bin but I must be doing something wrong.
What is the zone filename that the program will recognize?

Have some lists.
Also, see the Wiki Article on Titan Icon. (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Titan_Icon#Loading_Maps)
Maps must be entered like so:
City_03_01.txt
The above is Talos.
Putting it in your loadmap prompt box or slash command should take you right there.
If you need further help, just ask.
:)
Thanks I found the same lists upon further investigation.
Man the graphics are even better than I remember.
I so miss this game :gonk:
Hi. I'm new here and I'm not sure if this is still monitored. I just downloaded Island Rum from the link in the first post above, but I get an error message that says "Error with Manifest URL" before anything is loaded. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any help!!
UPDATE: I "reset path" to Safari and it looked like it was going to work, but it has been stuck on "saving cache" for almost an hour. I really don't know what I'm supposed to do differently, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
There may actually be a manifest error - I'll check into it later.
Okay, thanks! I still haven't gotten past "saving cache," and I don't know what I would do next.
Hey Manga, thanks for looking into things for me, but I want to let you know that I was able to get it to work. I deleted it, then re-downloaded it from the link on the Paragon Wiki. That one worked for me.
I just wanted to let you know before you spent a lot of time trying to figure it out. Thanks!
I was testing the newer version and couldn't find anything wrong. That explains why. :)
Everything works fine except the only kind of maps I can load are city zones. Everything else cause the program to freeze up. Any ideas from anyone?
Thanks in Advance!
Thanks so much for posting this. Just downloaded Island Rum and it's telling me "Error with Manifest URL" and then just sits telling me it's loading manifest. Any ideas? Does Island Rum have any known issues with Mavericks?
Thanks for your help.

I just tested it and it works fine. Make sure you have Build 04282014 (it's above the Play button) - if not, download it again. I think Dropbox is a little unreliable with the manifest sometimes. I might build in some caching to offset that someday.
Thanks for the reply. Still no luck. I have downloaded from the above link several different times, and from ParagonWiki as well. The link in this thread gives me Build 042820141. It will appear to download an update at first, then give me the same manifest URL error. Any other suggestions?
If you pull down the menu (the orange tree icon) and select Manifests, what URL is listed there?
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/37952257/Tequila/titanicon.xml
Does that URL load for you in a web browser? If not you might have something blocking it like parental controls or a firewall.
The URL loads, but it's all code. No parental controls turned on, and the firewall is not blocking this.
Next time you launch Island Rum, send me via PM the log located here:
~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log
Use the Go menu in the finder to get there.
Or if PM doesn't allow attachments put it in dropbox or something and send me the link.
Sent you the requested log file. Hopefully it will shed some light on what's going on.
Thanks for all your help.
Maybe you can help me. I'm trying to install Island Rum for Icon. The build is 042820141. I'm installing on a new MacBook Pro, with OSX 10.9.3.
The load seemed to start okay, but then a box pops up with Select File in the top bar. The box is showing the contents of the Application directory and two buttons (Cancel and Select). Neither button worked until I selected a file. Then it gave me: Error With Manifest URL.
Now whenever I start the program, I get Error With Manifest URL. I've tried choosing Rescan and Reset Path. I even selected Options>Download Optional Content, but nothing seems to work.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I really want this to work.
Thanks.
If you go into Manifests via the menu, make sure the Manifest looks like this:
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/37952257/Tequila/titanicon.xml
If it does, you may have just run into a temporary Dropbox outage that'll fix itself eventually.
I've been trying for a couple of days to get this to work, but I'm not having any luck. ???
After unzipping the initial file, I placed the Island Rum app in the Applications folder. Running the app gives me the Error With Manifest URL message. The Manifest URL is correct.
If I choose Reset Path, where should I point to? I've tried choosing the Island Rum app for the reset path and rescanning. That almost works, but gets stuck on Saving Cache.
If I halt the Saving Cache process, I can see the links for Titan Icon V1.71 and Titan Icon V1.71NPC (I think... it's cut off by the picture). But the links don't do anything.
Any instructions you can give or suggestions you can make would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
You want to choose the City of Heroes application if you have it installed, or a folder where you want to have it installed.
It seems some of the city zones (for me anyway) come up as "all sky", particularly
...Steel Canyon, which is supposed to be:
maps/City_Zones/City_02_01/City_02_01.txt
...and Skyway City, which is supposed to be:
maps/City_Zones/City_02_02/City_02_02.txt
Is anyone else getting this? Any known solutions? Thanks.
If the map actually loads but your character spawns somewhere out of sight of it, you can try the [ or ] key to warp to another spawn point.
Unable to install. Getting error, MD5 Error Downloading islandrum-mac.zip. Not sure what to do. Running Yosemite 10.10.3.
Any thoughts?
Hi! Just looking for some quick, 'oh duh' advice... the link in this thread brought me an IslandRum build 032820141. The first thing it does on launch is try to update and download islandrum-mac.zip, which then gets a MD5 Error Downloading: and once I click OK, we exit. Relaunch loops this same thing over again.
I changed the link at the top of the page. If you're having problems, try clicking it and downloading from it again.
I just downloaded it from the link in the first post. I pick a location, and then it flickers by "downloading mac client" then gets to "installing mac client", and fails with "MD5 Error: Downloading macclient.zip".
Any suggestions?
I just read other entries in this thread. I downloaded the manifest XML, which was fine, but note that it points to a macclient.zip which returns a 404 instead of a zip file.
The feeds on savecoh.com are also not working, so I can't try and get the client and let Island Rum patch it.
Any suggestions?
Did you try downloading Island Rum again? You might have failed an update, and the older version is looking for macclient.zip in the wrong place.
It was a clean download as of yesterday at 5:37pm. Trying again.... The new download has a timestamp of yesterday at 5:18pm.
Exactly the same issue.
The manifest is from http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/37952257/tequila/titanicon.xml
If I download that, it says the mac client is at http://powermadsoftware.com/titan/macclient.zip and that is a 404.
Overnight someone seeded the torrent on SaveCOH, so I do have a copy, but Island Rum isn't working for me.
It should be fixed now.
Closer... closer!
It downloads macclient.zip (pretty darn quickly, so maybe it's not all there) and then says "MD5 Downloading macclient.zip"
The Manifest lists that as http://powermadsoftware.com/titan/macclient.zip, which I can download as a 24.7MB file. That is a valid zip, which expands to "City of Heroes Resurgence.app" which looks like a game. Small, though.
I am also getting an MD5 error.....
Standby, I have to find the person who maintains the file manifest for Icon.
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. I can offer some hosting if needed, but it won't be as stable as the clouds you're using. (It's good, but not that good.)
Mac user here as well.
I have it on my Windows Boot Camp partition. So I can just download the chat client when available. But...I'll want to use the Mac version at some point to take advantage of...well the serenity of being on a Mac plus my Fusion drive will load it much quicker too.
Azrael.
The file manifest has been updated, there should be no more errors.
It's happily installing files now! So far so good. I'm going to crash and let it run overnight, but I suspect you've got it sorted.
Thank you so much for your attention and determination in getting this working for us! We really appreciate it.
I left it running when I went to bed. When I got up this morning, the Mac had gone to sleep and Island Rum didn't recover. I killed it and started over.
When it finished - yaaay! - there was a play button - the blue arrow - in the lower right corner. I clicked that. Nothing happened.
I went to the directory I'd asked it to create. It contains an "Titan Icon" and a "City of Heroes Resurgence". The "Titan Icon" app shows as a broken icon, and double-clicking it gets a message from the Mac saying "You can't open the application "Titan Icon" because it may be damaged or incomplete.".
I deleted the "Titan Icon" and re-ran Island Rum, which downloaded it again. I haven't been able to get through a download without TR freezing, and having to be killed with "Force Quit".
Any suggestions, or am I just unlucky?
I've also run into the issue of Island Rum freezing on patching/downloading.
It will grab 3-4 files and then freeze on downloading. If I close it and then restart it again around 30 mins later, it will get a few more files and freeze again. Note, the app is still functional, it just no longer progresses on downloading that particular file and therefore is stuck.
I'm not sure what the issue is, but I may move to the windows version, if everyone else is downloading fine.
I'm having the same issue, I've been following these announcements the past few weeks (after playing on and off since 2006 and coming back recently to see what had become of CoH) and I'm really excited to get back in and chatting - but Island Rum keeps freezing during the client download. I don't have a Windows PC anymore and I was really hoping I could run Paragon Chat natively on my Mac.
I'd really appreciate any help.
I'm not entirely sure what's causing these problems, I did a lot of testing with it. The only thing I can do at this point is get everyone with problems to send me a copy of the log, located here:
~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log
Hi, first time poster here. I'm trying to download this on my Mac using Island Rum, but once it finishes "Installing" a window pops up saying "Error Unzipping macclient.zip"
I really want to fix this and be ready for Paragon Chat to join my friends, but I don't know what is wrong with this? Help?
Just an update - this is completely unscientific and probably not repeatable but for what it's worth I managed to successfully download everything. Earlier today I removed Island Rum and the associated files, re-downloaded it from the link in the original post and set it running, it crashed a couple of times but eventually downloaded all of the files.
Unfortunately I'm now receiving an error telling me that the application "Couldn't write process memory" when I click the launch button, which has me stumped. If anyone has run into this and has any ideas for me I'd love to hear them.
I've never seen that error before. Is that on a Mac?

OMCS.
And incidentally, I'm going to post some new instructions today on how to prepare Island Rum for Mac for Paragon Chat. It has to be done a different way, because Paragon Chat isn't compatible with the old Cider client.
Yes, all of this is on my Mac (running Yosemite if that makes any difference). I did think it was strange, I even had a look around in the Icon source code to see where the error was coming from but that didn't really help. I was thinking it might have been caused by the fact I already have wine installed via homebrew for other things. I think the best thing for me to do is wait for those new instructions and then try again from scratch when they're ready.
Thanks for chiming in Manga, much appreciated. :)
I'm getting a manifest error too.
On the "Prepare your account..." thread they said to use http://patch.savecoh.com/manifest.xml with Tequila. Is it different for Island Rum? Because I tried it and it's downloading again.
Important info for Mac players:
The Cider client WILL NOT RUN Paragon Chat. I therefore changed Island Rum to support Wine. Follow these steps:
1. Install Homebrew by visiting http://brew.sh/ and following the instructions.
2. Once that's installed, type "brew install wine" and wait for it to install. It may ask you to install a couple of other things before it will complete its installation, but it will tell you what commands to use or where to download it from.
3. Next, type "brew install winetricks".
4. Finally, type "winetricks d3dx9 vcrun2008 msls31 winhttp".
After that, you'll have all the pieces you need to make Island Rum work with Wine (it will auto-detect it).
NOTE: Island Rum may also try to install homebrew and wine on its own. It's *supposed* to, but I've gotten mixed reports on whether it actually does. So it's safer to start with installing it yourself. If Wine is already installed, Island Rum won't try to install it again.
Anyone successfully logged in to Paragon Chat via mac?
Having trouble here. I think I updated everything correctly and installed brew, wine, wine tricks, etc. I can launch and run Island Rum. It updates and checks files. Paragon Chat is selected. Then I click on the big blue arrow, it gets a big green checkmark. Then Island Rum closes, and nothing. I wait and still nothing. Then I launch my copy of old CoH beta (same as I do to access Icon) and it's still just Icon.
Did I miss a step? Is there something fundamental that I did not do? Should Island Rum or Paragon Chat be in a specific folder together or separate? Island Rum is just in the Applications folder. So is CoH/Icon.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
The same thing happens to me.
it's brew.sh and not brew.ch, btw.
trying the process manga wrote out as we speak...
I was getting the same error with Island Rum starting, letting me select Paragon Chat then dying. When I checked the ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log file, it was looking for a link that was in my Applications folder
Quotelrwxr-xr-x 1 mobbyg admin 43 Jul 7 23:06 coh.backup -> /Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/coh
When I tried to run that link, it said it couldn't find the file. So I moved that link and created a new one to the correct folder..
Quoteln -s /Applications/COH.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/coh/ /Applications/coh
Then I ran Island Rum again, and I got the login screen.
IR is still hanging for me, but I did get a copy of the client from the torrent, and I have the executable. The directions for wine let it run, but not start, and I'm stuck there on the Mac.
Windows worked easily, but that's no shock.
alright, so manga's process that described the installation of homebrew (at brew.sh) and, with it, the installation of wine and winetricks worked for me. i was able to run paragonchat and managed to run around er, walk around (jog around?) paragon city last night.
some background:
downloading and running island rum went seemingly okay for me. but when it went to download the other files (presumably, issue 24 of city of heroes, itself), it would hang. it would grab a couple files and then do nothing. i had noticed that when i went to the manifest and plugged in the manifest file location we were pointed to in an earlier post, it would refresh itself and grab a couple more files. it's worth mentioning that the manifest URL i was putting in was the exact same one it was already populated with. but after a while, it wouldn't proceed any further. i chalked this up to, perhaps, network traffic and decided to try again later.
later, i opened island rum again and it was able to download all the files it needed. but then it would do nothing despite clicking on the blue arrow/green checkmark.
much later, when i opened island rum, it immediately prompted me with an error, indicating that it couldn't find the manifest. i plugged in the previous URL and it didn't like it. i plugged in the manifest location for windows, however, and it proceeded fine. however, much like the last time, clicking on the blue arrow/green checkmark to launch paragonchat did nothing.
after following manga's directions to install wine (which was not a quick process, so be patient) did clicking on the aforementioned button produce a windows-looking dialogue box to login and then subsequently launch city of heroes.
it's worth noting that the titan icon app icon in my applications folder has been indicating that the app is damaged or incomplete all this time. selecting it from the island rum menu produces and error alert box: "Couldn't write process memory: Message 0x%1 not found in file %2."
in any case, thanks to everyone who made this happen. from the being able to virtually return to city of heroes part to the making this thing work on a mac part. it's nice to be back home. =]

If you already have a copy of CoH I24 installed, select that application. If you don't, select the folder where you want it to install.
From things I hears from Leo, unless you already have (saved) the original game info, it should go to a folder named "COH" in your 'Downloads' folder.
Island Rum ran then would hang. I'd kill it and re-run, and it'd start over. Eventually it got all the files. This was from a suggestion from an earlier post.
I see Paragon Chat and Icon in the options, but neither works.
Like others, the coh symlink was wrong. Fixing that gets Paragon Chat to launch. Icon is broken, as there is no icon.exe. (I'll grab one and try it in a minute, but I'm not sure why IR doesn't put one in. Putting it in the right place gets "Couldn't write process memory: Message 0x%1 not found in file %2". So Icon isn't happy with wine, either.)
Paragon Chat comes up, and starts the client. The player log ends with:
Connecting to DbServer 127.12.34.56:7000 (UDP) cookie: 0..
Something is mangling the IP, and I haven't found what yet. A wine faq suggests it's a missing hosts file entry, but that doesn't make much sense for this item. I'll try and see what happens.
Something is causing the CoH client to get an IP address of 127.12.34.56. It's a Wine thing, but I can't figure out what to do about it or why it's happening. The solutions involve editing /etc/hosts, which did nothing productive, or installing a VPN to reorder the network ports, which I haven't tried yet.
I can't get it to work on 127.0.0.2, either, even if I create one. Foo!
Yeah, so creating a 127.0.0.2, and running without -localhost gets warnings:
err:winsock:interface_bind Failed to bind to interface, receiving broadcast packets will not work on socket 01b8.
err:winsock:interface_bind Failed to bind to interface, receiving broadcast packets will not work on socket 01c4.
The client starts, but won't connect to the mapserver.
Creating 127.12.34.56 as an alias seems to do the same thing.
Unless I can figure out how to get Wine to stop reporting that address, I'm stumped.
I still haven't a clue on how to Run Island Rum. It comes on, but nothing happens.
I'm stumped too...
I jumped through all the previous posted hoops and I'm still getting nothing as far as running Rum Island is concerned... This is what I'm getting:

I ran into the same issue earlier (finally got online tonight and it was worth the wait!), that's the original manifest URL which I believe went down due to high demand, if you click that 'Add' button and put http://patch.savecoh.com/manifest.xml into the box, it should work for you!
Hi, I recently downloaded Island Rum for my Mac. Every time I run it, it begins downloading the files, but then stops saying "1 or more files failed to download" and the entire setup fails. Help?
That trick seems to be working as it's now downloading a bunch of files... Hopefully, It will all go as planned and I'll be back in Atlas tonight!
Thanks for the tip, OMCS...
No problem! Best of luck to you, you're in for a real treat when you get in. There's loads to explore (although ironically I've spent most of my time in the costume creator finally perfecting a concept I've had for years) and a lot of great conversation - the fact the community is still so strong three years on is a real credit to how this was so much more than a game for so many people. It's great to have it back.
I had to run the downloader repeatedley to get all the files. Load was getting it stuck on some.
Have you gotten Paragon Chat running on the Mac? I still haven't made that work.
Hmmm... IDK. It finally allowed me to download all of the files. The window pops up with a choice of picking either Paragon Chat or Titan Icon. When I press the blue arrow to actually get one of them to start however, the whole thing just closes. *sigh* I don't know where to go from here... Does anybody have any idea what I need to do to fix this? Thanx in advance...

Island Rum auto-closes after it launches something, that's normal to force people to not leave it open all the time and miss patches.
That's just it - it isn't launching anything at all. It's just auto-closing after I press the button.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I might go about correcting this?
It did that to me, too. It creates a symlink called /Applications/coh and it did it wrong on my machine. I had to fix that. Since I don't know what you called your CoH folder, I can't give you the command to fix it.
At the terminal, I did:
cd /Applications
mv coh coh.bak
ln -s /Applications/CoH\ I24\ Beta/City\ of\ Heroes\ Beta\ Mac.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/coh
You'll need to replace the path '/Applications/CoH\ I24\ Beta/City\ of\ Heroes\ Beta\ Mac.app' with the full path to your CoH app.
I've known the patcher to quit without launching anything if wine isn't installed (correctly). Make sure you've installed Homebrew and wine as detailed by Manga earlier in the thread. If it still doesn't work you can see the Island Rum logs by going to your home directory, then Library/Logs/Unity and opening Player.log - that might give you an error message or some other insight into why it's not working.

Read the instructions further up the thread about installing Wine via Homebrew.

Note that this machine did not have the CoH client installed on it - Island Rum installed the files to "Applications/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/coh"
I installed Homebrew and Wine per Manga's instructions in post 57 with no errors.
I followed all of the above listed advice about wine & Homebrew (Thanx Manga!) and finally managed to get to the login...
I am sooooo close and yet when I go to select the server (which is listed as 127.0.0.1) the screen goes blank and then finally ops up with "Can't connect to DBserver".
Now however, I can not access Titan Icon... I get the error message: "Couldn't write process memory: Message 0x%1 not found in file %2"
Ugh this is getting messy. I think that I might just try to start from scratch again...

I'm dealing with the same issue of having Island Rum spool up normally and then exiting with nothing after hitting the blue arrow. Here's the relevant section of the log:

You might want to try opening up a Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app), pasting
/bin/sh -c 'wine /Applications/coh/paragonchat.exe -localhost' into it and hitting enter. It should either give you an error message which you can use to debug or start up Paragon Chat.

Doing so simply returns a command prompt, like so:

Hmm, make sure you have included the opening and closing quotation marks.
OK, it's giving me a "cannot find '/Applications/coh/paragonchat.exe'", so it must not be pointing to the right place. How do I redirect it?

I've heard there could be a bug with the process of creating the 'coh' alias - it might be worth renaming /Applications/coh to /Applications/coh.old and running Island Rum again to see if it recreates the link properly.
Well, good news and bad news.
The good news is that renaming "coh" as "coh.old" worked - I was able to get Paragon Chat to load.
The bad news is that, as others have reported, I can't get into the game. It shows me 127.0.0.1 as the server option, but clicking on it does nothing. Also, Titan will not run - it gives the error message that others have reported.
Is there any way to bypass the "-localhost" switch to launch the game? I believe Codewalker included it in 0.966 to fix a problem, but it may have created another problem...
This may not work (and isn't a long term fix because you won't receive updates this way) but you could try running Paragon Chat directly rather than via IR. To do so simply run the wine command from the log without the -localhost flag in a terminal. So wine /Applications/coh/paragonchat.exe. It may not work at all, it may lead to the same (or a different) error but I think it's worth trying.
I'll give that a shot.
In the meantime, OMCS, since you have been able to get into Paragon Chat, could you post your log to this thread:
http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,11109.0.html
Let's try to nail down this DBserver error.
Ugh. I started from scratch and re-installed everything. I downloaded Island Rum and updated all of the files. I installed Homebrew/Wine/Winetricks. I attempted to do all the things listed that others have suggested in this entire thread.
I can now no longer get to the server select screen as I wrote in a previous post.
However, I am able to get to the paragon chat XMPP login screen. It gives me the following error message: "XMPP was unable to connect. Make sure that your XMPP login information is correct." Is there anyway to reset your password for this?
If I attempt to start Titan Icon, I get the message: "Error! Failed to allocate memory: Access denied."
I managed to get it started yesterday, closer to where it is today. If I use Time Machine to bring it back, what files would I need to do this?
[Update] I went into Time Machine and got my original stand alone version of Titan Icon just to get my costumes back... The version of Island Rum that I ran yesterday that was able to get to the server select screen no longer works - it only does the above...
Quick post to let you all know that I haven't given up yet. The issues with Island Rum have gotten harder to reproduce, and I'm working with guesses now to determine what's causing some of the problems, but I'm still working on it!
I reinstalled homebrew/wine/winetricks and managed to get around that password issue. It now allows me to get to the server select screen (which is listed as 127.0.0.1). However thats as far as it goes. At that point, I get the "Can't connect to DBserver" message again.
I still can not access Titan Icon... The error message: "Couldn't write process memory: Message 0x%1 not found in file %2" just pops up.
Well, at least thats better than I was doing last night.
I truly hope that this can get figured out - I really miss our city. Keep fighting the good fight, guys!
(As a side note, it was funny to see my son RUN into the room when he heard the music from the log in screen. "Did you get City of Heroes back up?" LOL)

Have you tried the temporary fix I posted in http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,10968.msg187287.html#msg187287 (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,10968.msg187287.html#msg187287)? No doubt Manga will produce a far better solution but until then it might be worth a try - it's worked for me and won't do anything that persists after a reboot.
Quick Note: Although I got my client to run on the Mac using the advice of Manga and OMCS, there's a conflict between sudo ifconfig lo0 down and Microsoft Office 2011. Launching any of the Office apps after using the sudo ifconfig lo0 down command causes Office to seek reauthorization, and then it returns an error message when trying to reverify.
There are two ways around the problem:
First, reboot before trying to run Office apps, and then use the sudo ifconfig lo0 down command again before launching Island Rum.
Second, keep your Office apps open on the sidebar before using sudo ifconfig lo0 down and launching Island Rum. As long as they're running before you invoke the command, they'll be fine.
If needs be you can revert to the regular behaviour by replacing 'down' with 'up' - sudo ifconfig lo0 up as required.
Thanks for the tip, OMCS.
Now that I'm in and running, I notice that some of the graphics settings are unavailable. Specifically, all of the Ultra Mode options are greyed out. Is this something related to Wine? I have plenty of graphical horsepower (nVidia 775M chipset and 2 gigs of VRAM).
Yes, that's a wine issue. I'm looking into it.
Hi! I finally got into Icon and I am SO EXCITED about it, but when I try to launch Chat the City of Heroes Resurgence icon comes up on my dock, and when I ctrl-click show all windows I can see a big blue box. I don't understand the Homebrew installation process at all, do I need to figure that out in order to access chat?
Yes, you do. Scroll back to post #57 in this thread for instructions. It's pretty easy.
If you have trouble connecting once everything is up and running, look elsewhere in this thread for a sudo command that will fix it.
So Island Rum has been running fine for a the past few days, but today it crashes with this error:
=================================================================
Got a SIGABRT while executing native code. This usually indicates
a fatal error in the mono runtime or one of the native libraries
used by your application.
=================================================================
I can post more from the error log if that would help.
I have never seen that error before.
Any thoughts as to next steps? Or should I delete/reinstall Island Rum?
Unfortunately whenever I try to download it using OS X format it doesn't even begin by saying something along the lines of "It is from an unsecure website and can't be downloaded".
You can go into System Preferences and allow the download for the one time.

I haven't seen that before, either. Which web browser is requiring a secure website for downloading?
Hi everyone, I installed Island Rum today, but when I try to launch Titan Icon, I get this error message: "Couldn't write process memory: Message 0x%1 not found in file %2". Has anyone had any luck solving this?
Several folks have reported that error with Icon. However, Paragon Chat typically launches and runs OK.
Did I do something wrong? I downloaded Island Rum. Paragon Chat and Titan Icon

I'm going to need a little more information than "Nothing happens". Mac or Windows? Do you see the login/password blanks?
I'm having a similar problem. I opened it. It downloaded something for about a half hour, a "ready to play" message comes up over the load bar, but when I click the arrow to continue it just closes. No error message, no nothing. It just closes. Do I need to do something specific?
I'm having similar problems to those others have reported. First: Mac OS X 10.10.4, two different Mac Minis (2012, early and late I think), 8 GB RAM on one and 16 GB RAM on the other. I pointed Island Rum at the i24 beta, since I still had it, but it aborted when trying to copy the files. I copied the piggs from the old app (City of Heroes i24.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/coh/piggs) to the Resurgence app. When I started Island Rum again, it scanned all the piggs, then gave me the options of Icon or Paragon Chat. Icon works fine: selecting that launches Resurgence, I get the login screen, then eventually get dumped into the costume creator. If I select Paragon Chat, Resurgence launches, but never opens a window, and never attempts an outgoing Internet connection. It isn't frozen, as its menus still respond and I can quit it normally. It seems like it's waiting for something that never happens. The Info.plist file mentions a c:\coh\resurgence.exe that doesn't exist. I tried copying paragonchat.exe with that filename, to no avail. Changing any of the options in Island Rum also had no effect.
If you previously had a copy of the I24 beta on your Mac (either at shutdown or from Icon), you may need to edit the Island Rum files so that it can locate those files. See post #80 in this thread for information on how to do so.
If you did not previously have a copy of the I24 beta, Island Rum will download it for you, but it does not always correctly build the launch directory. Go to Finder - Go - Applications and look for an application named "coh" (its icon should display a shortcut arrow). Rename that application as "coh.old" and run Island Rum again. That should create the correct directory.
If you can reach the CoH loading screen and are stuck at the "Select a Server" button (i.e., clicking it doesn't do anything), open the Terminal program (via Spotlight, i.e. Cmd+Spacebar) and type the following command: sudo ifconfig lo0 down You'll be prompted to enter your password and it won't echo back (typing the password does not cause any asterisks to display), but it will work.

Please look at my post #116, above.
Thanks to all who offered advice, but I'm still seeing the same problems. Those of you who have Paragon Chat working on a Mac, what apps do you have installed? Island Rum by itself will not create a usable application when run from scratch, as detailed below, so I'd like to know what success should look like.
I deleted the previous Resurgence that I'd downloaded, created a folder "City of Heroes" in /Applications, ran Island Rum, and pointed it at the folder I'd just created. IR first downloaded macclient.zip and extracted that, then began downloading files. It died once or twice, but relaunching it made it continue the download, until it finished. When done, the contents of the City of Heroes folder were:
__MACOSX/City of Heroes Resurgence.app, which was entirely blank
City of Heroes Resurgence.app, which contained all the usual application stuff, but not the downloaded data files
Titan Icon.app, which contained only Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/coh/ with all the downloaded files
Attempting to launch either Paragon Chat or Icon from IR just made IR quit without launching anything else. I copied the application stuff from City of Heroes Resurgence to Titan Icon. I can now launch Icon successfully and get to the costume creator. The app that launches is Titan Icon, though it identifies itself as City of Heroes Resurgence in the application menu and in the list of running programs. I threw away the City of Heroes Resurgence app (without any data files), and I can still launch Icon.
I tried launching Paragon Chat. Little Snitch reported that it tried to connect to chat.cohtitan.com port 90. I allowed that, then got the same thing I'd seen before: the app is running (Titan Icon, calling itself City of Heroes Resurgence), but it has no open windows. Process Monitor shows that it's not entirely idle, using about 1.5% CPU. The menus respond (the "About" item works, though weirdly each time I select it the window is about 40 pixels shorter until it never appears at all), and I can quit the app, but that's all.
Island Rum's unzipping seems to have a problem. I started over and this time duplicated macclient.zip before IR deleted it. I unzipped it with The Unarchiver, and I got only the no-data City of Heroes Resurgence application, with no __MACOSX folder.
I noticed that Island Rum unzips the client, but then creates the Titan Icon.app folder where it puts all the downloaded data. Did a previous version use the City of Heroes Resurgence application name, and macclient.zip wasn't updated when it started using Titan Icon as the app name instead?

Safari, sorry about this being late, to get my attention faster just send me a message instead of forum reply.
I agree with the first three steps Tardigrade did. Same thing I did
I had Titan Icon for a while, but I had deleted Island Rum not realizing that it was a launcher and updater. Now, that I want to get Paragon Chat for my Mac (I have a gaming PC that has Paragon Chat working fine) I downloaded IR again, in hopes to update the Mac Titan Icon into Chat mode.
Sadly, I get failed manifest download and nothing else seems to work with Island Rum. I'm not sure what is going wrong. Any pointers?
The manifest moved: Try putting "http://patch.savecoh.com/manifest.xml" in the Manifests in Island Rum.
Now, I haven't tried yet, but if I have Titan Icon already will Island Rum just update it or will it try to install again? Do I need to have Island Rum in the same folder as Titan Icon?
Again, I have not tried this yet so I'm just trying to be prepared for what might happen.

Now, for a more technical question: I have Paragon Chat set up on a PC where I have characters and channels set up. Where in Island Rum or the Mac Titan Icon can I copy database files from the PC so I can keep them the same (aka I don't want to recreate all the characters again)? On the PC version you find the database files in a folder called AppData, but I can't find that folder in the Package Contents of Titan Icon or Island Rum. Any advice.

Those go where your CoH files are. On a Mac, it's inside the app package for CoH - but Island Rum now creates a shortcut so you can access them easier. It's in /Applications/coh.
How do you launch the NPC editor in Icon? I've tried looking at the steps on the wiki, but it still launches the regular editor.
ok, since i got my desktop mac to run Paragon Chat I thought it would be nice to have my MacBook Air run it. I transferred Island Rum and Titan Icon app over to the laptop and then installed brew and was following the steps when I got this error message:
wine cmd.exe /c echo '%ProgramFiles%' returned empty string, error message "wine: '/Users/davpa' is not owned by you, refusing to create a configuration directory there"
Not sure why I got that. I'm the owner and admin of this computer with no other profiles. Any suggestion on how to fix this? Island Rum launches but then nothing happens besides IR closing when I hit the blue play button.
Did you install Homebrew with a different user, or using sudo? That would do it.

For my desktop I just followed the directions when installing homebrew and everything worked fine. The only thing I can think of is that I still had the original i24 beta client when I upgraded it to Icon and then upgrading it to Paragon Chat. I don't see why that would make a difference, but so far that seems to be the only difference between me and many others.
Currently I'm trying to get Paragon Chat to work on my MacBook Air with no success, even though I copied my original client over and followed the same steps as I did on my desktop. I have so many different extensions on my desktop, so there might be something there but I have no idea what.
Having issues getting into Icon & Paragon Chat on MAC.

I believe I am the administrator, however ever since I updated to Yosemite some files have mysteriously disappeared or have been 'grayed out' so I can no longer find or access them. My MAC was renamed to Mac Book Pro (2) after the update. Unless it somehow created a separate account for me I should still be the administrator.

That sounds like you might have to boot into recovery mode (Cmd-R just after the chime at reboot) and try re-installing the OS. You may have had a bad install. After that, you'll have to reinstall Homebrew and Wine as well.
Hi all! First, let me just say how happy I am that this project exists. Thank you all for your hard work!
I installed island rum and when I click on the blue arrow for paragon chat it loads the chat log on, but after entering credentials it does nothing.
I've read that it's an issue that many experience, but has there been any headway into figuring out how to resolve it? What about any work arounds in the mean time? I'm using a Mac running Yosemite, BTW.
Cheers!
Update: after playing around with the various troubleshooting steps, I managed to get myself back into CoH to the server select screen after agreeing to be awesome. When I choose the server it hangs and eventually tells me that it can't connect to DBserver.
A work around that was previously stated to temporarily resolve this allows me to create a character and log into Atlas, only to immediately receive a mapserver error. The combat log states that it failed to connect to the chat program.

Important to mention: you seem to need to install XQuartz in order for homebrew to install wine via "brew install wine" command if your copy of whatever OSX you're running doesn't have it already. Otherwise, all your efforts will result in an invisible window that highlights blue when you cycle windows or use 'Show all windows'.
As for the post above this one, as far as file selection, it's asking where your copy of Icon is. If you don't have one, get one by following the instructions on ParagonWiki (I believe?) detailing to make a copy of your i24 beta coh.app and adding the icon.exe to the c_drive folder therein. Once you've done that you can rename that to Icon for ease-of-use or just select it and it'll be upgraded to feature a program titled "City of Heroes Resurgence" that should be the bulk of what you need for Island Rum to get you into the Paragon Chat application.

It wants yoi to select the location of the CoH.app file.
I am having a difficult time with this, also. I've gone through two computers and I don't have a clean copy of the CoH executable anymore, only versions of Icon that don't work with my current computer. Island Rum gives me the "Error loading manifest" message. What can I do?

This might be a stupid question so I apologize in advance. Are your Macs completely up to date in regards to updates?

Usually is. I can reach the manifest right now, so you might also have problems with your ISP.
It says error loading manifest, and has the following URL in a box entitled 'manifests':

Is this right? There is a type-in box, and elsewhere on this thread there is a mention that it's not in dropbox anymore.
Also, dl.dropboxusercontent.com gets a 404 for me, but I can access www.dropbox.com.
That one is really old, I believe now it's http://patch.savecoh.com/manifest.xml.
It seems to be working (thank you!) - I will let you know if some other problem arises.
By the way, a suggestion: I followed the directions on the opening post of this thread, and the old link that I mentioned in my previous post was the default manifest that Island Rum looks for. It might help others if the opening post were kept more up-to-date. :)
Edit: it does indeed work. Thank you very much again!
All right, one more question: where are my costumes saved (so that I can copy my old costume library into it)? There is no transgaming folder inside of the package contents. :)
Thanks again!
EDIT: found it. It's in:
CoH/Contents/Resources/drive_c/Program Files/coh/
I've downloaded Island Rum but my Mac won't let me start the program. I keep getting a pop-up message that the developer isn't identifiable. Has anyone else had this problem? Do I need to change security settings?
You can "allow" it from the Security & Privacy settings panel. I suppose I should start signing Island Rum before Mac OS starts requiring it outright.
If you are using an newer version of the MacOS you will have to open the program with the drop down menu that is created when you use the other mouse button (it will also show Package contents) as the anywhere option no longer exists.

Hi everyone.
Can someone please tell me what the current build is for Island Rum? I clicked the link in the beginning of this post and received Build 033020181. Also, what is the current Manifest? I downloaded the Homebrew as well but I still can get the files to download and continue to receive errors. Should I try to unistall Island Rum and re-install it? I'm not even for sure how to unistall if I need to.
Thank you
First, if you haven't installed it before, download this:
http://ir.powermad.net/macclient-wineskin.zip
Install it in a folder like Applications.
Then download this:
http://ir.powermad.net/islandrum-mac.zip
Install that, then set the path to /Applications, but not the CoH application itself.
After that, downloading should begin.
The first link will not download sadly.

Be patient with it, the SCORE patchserver is running on the same server, so it's being strangled. I might move the files once some of the links start to expire.
Thanks Manga!
I got them both to download. But it seems to crash on El Capitan. I get the spinning rainbow of death and the "stopped responding" force quit.
It works perfectly on High Sierra. Do you think theres compatibility issues or is there something else happening?
I get to it saying Launching Score and after a few seconds it changed back to Ready to Play and nothing happens

I haven't seen any of that kind of behavior on Mojave. What does the text say above the progress bar when it crashes?
Hello!
I have (thanks to this thread) managed to get INTO CoH. The biggest thing I found was getting CoH from the torrent and putting the whole CoH folder into my applications folder and then Island Rum did it's thing!
The problem is when I get into CoH I can move the cursor around I can tab through the log in and pw box but I can't click anything with the mouse (trackpad on my ipad pro).. Is there some kind of setting I can tweak or something?
I tried plugging in a USB mouse and that didn't work either.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
Once you've launched the game, hit Command+Enter to put the game in windowed mode.

I don't get one unfortunately. Island Rum will say its ready and I click the green arrow. I do not get the check mark. After a few seconds I get a rainbow wheel and I have to force quit because it will say its not responding. I thought maybe its just taking a while to load so Ive left it alone before to let it launch but nothing.
Initially when I downloaded Island Rum, I selected score and it did a 143 package download. It randomly said it couldnt download a few files. Since Island Rum would crash, I would open my Applications folder open COH there. But i get this message: Error parsing command line argument 'pathversion 2019.04.19' Then I click ok on the error message and COH launches. After i enter i my credentials I get a server error message which everyone says is normal. But i can log in on my macbook air just fine. I dont get any of the behavior I just outline.
So finally last night, I deleted everything off my iMac. I airdropped Island Rum and COH from my macbook air. IR says it cant find the game client. And It asks me to download but it closes itself out when I try. So now I went into my applications folder, launched COH from there. This time i did NOT get the pathversion error and I was able to enter my credentials and got in game no problem! So i guess for now problem solved? But what happens if there are updates? Wont i need Island Rum for them?

Not sure if that's for me but it still won't click anything IN CoH in windowed mode.

I'm having the same issue of pressing the play button, it saying "Launching Score" then changing back to Ready to Play.
I have already reset the path. The current path is to the "coh" folder downloaded via the torrent magnet link (in which "cityofheroes.exe" resides with all of the other game files). But I am still receiving the same issue.
In case it helps: right now I have a "CoH" folder in which both Island Rum and the above mentioned "coh" folder reside. If I need to change anything at that level, please let me know.
All of you with Island Rum not launching or getting stuck, try downloading it anew from http://telstar.eekstudio.com/islandrum-mac.zip. You might have gotten an older version than I have somehow.
Wow Manga, I can't believe that you are still here helping us Mac users...especially at this crazy/joyous time in COH history.
Quick question before I try following the general instructions using the download link you just posted. I still have the original Beta client that I had used with an early version of Paragon Chat. Any value in utilizing this instead of adding to the download load?
Thanks!

I downloaded Island Rum from the link you mention. I put it into the Application folder, launched it and pointed it at my old COH Beta app (also in the Applications folder). IR verified everything just, but when I try to use IR to launch Score, Paragon Chat or Icon, I get a brief green check mark before it resets to Ready to Play. I re-set the path numerous times to the COH app. No change.
Any thoughts?
I'm looking into it. Pain in the butt is that it works perfectly for me every time!

Could it be that is has something to do with the info.plist? I have tried manually changing the instances of icon.exe to score.exe and ParagonChat.exe respectively and starting the COH app directly. Nothing really happens on Paragon Chat. Starting Score, it loads the COH loading screen, but then fails with a Missing Assertion error. Icon starts up just fine using the COH app.
Happy to try any suggestions you have. Content of my info.plist below.
so my mac version magically started working, i was trying to run score (when it was open) and island rum would close after a lil bit and nothing would happen, same w icon or paragon chat. so i deleted everything and started from the begining. unzipped island rim and coh file. moved both into application folder. ran island rum, set path to coh in app folder and let it dl everything. still didnt work. i shut down in the morning, booted after work and now icon works and paragon still doesn't but i believe its due to ports issue
Looks like I got it to work (only tried Icon so far though). I pointed IR at an empty folder, so that it told it prompted me to to download the game files. Once I saw that it was starting to download the piggs, I interrupted it and copied the piggs from my original Beta client over as those are the biggest files to download. Restarted the download process and let it finish. Seems to work...more to come.

Hi Manga,
So Im still having issues launching COH via Island Rum. I cant select or get it to launch Paragon Char or Icon, it automatically downloads the score option and `forces me to select it.
I downloaded the files, and I even had to manually install some .dll files from my macbook air - where IR and COH are currently working.
As soon as I click the blue arrow, it freezes.
Could it be that im on El Capitan or is there just something not connecting with IR and COH.app?
Both my macbook and imac have the same version of IR and COH.app (CoH332397915Wine)
i am beyond a loss. Ive deleted, reinstalled several times and nothing.
Thank you very much for your help.
El Capitan is probably too old. Just in case though, Use Go > Go To Folder in the finder, and paste in ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log. Send me that log via forum PM. If it won't fit, I only need the last 50-100 lines or so.

Hi Manga,
I went ahead and upgraded to Mojave and that seemed to fix it. I get a slight 10-20 second delay from clicking the blue button to getting the green check mark and launching COH.
Thank you for your help with this! It is greatly appreciated!!

Not at the moment, because once a Mac application is "open", it's difficult to make it open a 2nd time.
Have downloaded island rum - let it download, then did a rescan to make sure. says game is ready to run, but then when i click play i get "error loading plist"
where does it download the game files? having trouble finding them. I am a windows user trying to help my brother get his game up and running on his mac.
10.13.6 os
I am now at a stage where it says "ready to play" will let me click, has a green check, then says "launching homecoming" then does nothing, goes back to "ready to play"
i moved it to the applications folder - no change there. at a loss of where to go now. is it port settings or something?
Where did the CoH application come from? Did you download it from http://telstar.eekstudio.com/macclient-wineskin.zip ?
We are just a few months away from the next version of macOS, which won't support 32bit apps. Any plans to make Island Rum and COH.app for Mac 64-bit compatible or will Mac users have to stay on Mojave?

I don't believe 32-bit apps won't run. It looks like Apple will do a "run 32-bit at your own risk" for the next version - it might crash, but they won't fix it. I'm still waiting for a 64-bit Wineskin, but it might be a moot point if Wine 64-bit won't run 32-bit apps.
I was under the impression that 32 bit apps won't launch on macOS 10.15:
https://www.macrumors.com/guide/32-bit-mac-apps/
I guess we may know for sure after WWDC in a few weeks.
If that's absolute, we're pretty much screwed anyway, as CoH is a 32-bit application. There's no way we're going to get a 64-bit CoH app in the next 3 months. So I'm hoping that info is incorrect, otherwise a lot of developers will be in the same boat.

Hello Manga.
My graphics on CoH Mac look 'flat' (I can play the game alright...) and I can't enable 'Ultra Mode'...is there a reason for this?
I have an Nvidia 680 MX and it does mighty fine with Ultra Mode on Windows. (I boot camp to play the game normally...but I was curious about the Mac version...)
Hope you can help.
Regards,
Azrael.
PS. My Mac is an iMac 3.4 gig i7, 8 gig of ram, 680MX 2 gig card. Like I say, fine for the Boot Camp. But I thinking it's maybe a GPU driver issue to enable Ultra Mode?
PPS. Idea. I wonder if it's anything to do with Mac's Open GL version being ancient? Or whether updated drivers from Nv' would cure this? I am running out of date Nv drivers. But Apple controls this side of things on the Mac side and Open GL has been left to languish for ages.
I'm sure I could enable ultra mode on my older Mac before I bought this one. I was getting 4 fps. :) Think that was on live before the pull.
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/478807/geforce-mobile-gpus/optimus-with-city-of-heroes/
Looks like it was an issue on the PC side at one point? Yet, strangely, works fine under Boot Camp.
Azrael.
There's a feud going on between Apple and nVidia, and nVidia is refusing to supply older graphics drivers. So they don't quite support all of the OpenGL features.

I suspected this was the case.
Haven't had Nv' GPU cards in a Mac in years.
It's amazing that in all this time the hardware power is there but software prevents the support of 'Open' GL.
Corporations. Yeesh.
It all seems rather churlish.
I have to play the 'PC side' in Bootcamp to get the visual fidelity which 'should' be on a Mac.
Ironic. The graphics on Mac CoH look 'flat' and primitive compared to Ultra mode. It's night and day in terms of fidelity.

That might be worth trying.
My bootcamp partition is nearly full give or take 6 gigs (more than I had on my 1st Mac.) I'm thinking it may be an idea to wipe it and go with a clean installation.
As in the link above, this wasn't isolated to Macs:
" I just yesterday got an Alienware m11x R2, very happy with it, and it works great. For almost every game I've tried it with so far, Optimus works perfectly. I'm really enjoying the laptop. With one exception.
City of Heroes seems to be having issues detecting the nVidia graphics card. The options for the game grey out almost all of the advanced graphics options, limiting me to pretty poor graphics settings for the game. I'm guessing it is running the nVidia card however, since the framerate for the game is very smooth, but the game itself isn't detecting it in the options menu, and is instead detecting the Intel graphics, and is thus disabling all the options the game knows the Intel card doesn't support."
Obviously, integrated graphics might be a problem. Sounds like a driver issue in the above instance but they may struggle to run ultra (thought Integrated graphics THESE days shouldn't be for such an old game.) A 680MX should run ultra on a Mac aka piece of cake. But it seems the petty squabbling between the two companies has got the better of their customers in one way or another.
Apple froze Open Gl dev' years ago (and for a company their size they just couldn't get it right...with about half the performance of WIndows machines on Open GL...) I can see why Apple did it. MS had Direct X. Why shouldn't Apple have Metal? Now they have iOS to leverage that back onto the Mac. Sooner or later, hold outs will support Metal for the Mac. Sooner or later, Macs will probably run Apple CPU/GPUs. It seems inevitable.
What I'm after is taking screen grabs ('Print Screens') of my characters. I've tried to do it Windows side with MS Paint but all I get when I paste is a little black square.
I thought doing this 'Mac' side might be easier as I have my graphics programs on this side.
Fusion might be a good option (thank you for the suggestion, Manga) as I can run Windows programs as 'Mac' apps without the navigational nightmare that I find with Windows.
Been to the website. £70 to make your life easier? Small price to pay. It's something I have looked into before with Parallels and Fusion (a few years back...) but it now seems like the performance and graphics APIs are better supported and faster.
